what i've been doing is a high flypass (just before OC drop) around these worlds, looking for a similar marking to the one on the Barnacle. so yeah, of you see one, definitely check it out

noooooooo :(

I'm on my way back to Spiro too, only takes like an hour to get to spirograph from Asiling space.

(what are we looking for again? 870 ly from Merope?)

Greetings commanders,

I was hoping someone could answer my question please.

I am aware that the UP convoys have been tailed and lead nowhere definitive.

I was wondering if any had attempted to trace them back to their origin? If they are system authority or whatever from a faction with a presence in that system, then would it be worth nosing around a station they control there? Either checking in signal sources nearby, or dropping in at the station itself and checking ships flying in and out, specifically authority ships, such as the ones that fly patrols around the station?

As I said, most likely has been done but I could not find any references to people trying this, only people saying they followed the convoy and it led nowhere.

...The real question is, how to orient ourselves. The binary numbers may not be an order, but a description. Like the idea with it counting things in a system. Except it's telling us a star should be top right, rings should be top left, two planets bottom left, etc.

If You open Merope System Map and then 5C planetary map, You will realize that the outer reference ring (which by logic should apply to the whole system) has similar coding like the message. I think You are onto something.

maybe if one orientates in vincinity of 5C according to diagram/map-ring it points the way U need?

I know this was attempted with the UA convoys back in the day and was determined that they were random spawns and led no where... not sure about UP but looks similar

Thanks for the reply. Seems a bit of a broken mechanic if people cant follow the convoy or trace it back to its origins. Glad I'm not searching for the things, inconsistencies like that break the immersion and just leave players frustrated.

Oh well, sorry I couldn't be any help o7

Now they are being found around pergunia the plague system closer to maia i think that whole thing has been thrown wide open 95% still are obsessed with merope 5c.

The only thing we have is that they are being pretty close to the sirius / sol core federation worlds so far. And the same systems are HQ of the leading entities listed as heavily investing in R and D and meta drive and all that. I think we may need to search some of the other nebulas. I have my own theory but need to be able to get some play time to rule it out

The Spirograph Nebula is really eerie... it certainly looks the most alien system I've ever seen. I'm roaming around on the 1st planet at the moment - so far though, nothing.

I would be interested to hear your theory commander. I have my own that I have stated here before, basically to do with system states and local news feeds. I haven't chased it up myself as convoy hijacking isn't something I currently have the means to do.

I dont have time to go into much detail now, but I try to keep an eye out for local news like this -

True! It's a very different place in comparison to what i'm used to in Elite. I've spent there whole day today but still nothing. Now I'm back in the bubble. Tomorrow I'll attempt to hunt down unknown probe and go back there with it onboard. We'll see to what end. ^^'

inverting the phase will just cancel parts of the spectrum that are identical in stereo. nothing to see here.

Actually I think seeing what is consistent and inconsistent between channels is at least a somewhat interesting thing to see here...

To me this strengthens the argument that the right-hand image is just an echo; and weakens the argument that the left-hand image is a pre-echo.

Because, you know, the background lore and narrative direction of a game isn't important until two years in. Sigh.

Honestly, I don't think it has been? How would a player two years ago played differently knowing exactly which parts of the Elite, Frontier and First Encounters games were canon lore or not? The game set up its own lore pretty well for the Federation and Empire, and then set some stories in motion about malfunctioning hyperdrives, etc.

It's only now that the "aliens" are getting more prominent that a little more knowledge about the lore is useful.

As an aside, I definitely recommend trying to run a game yourself... easiest way is to run a tabletop RPG like Dungeons & Dragons or Pathfinder. You'll learn a lot about how to spin a story, when to provide information, and also how fluid a story often is. I doubt all but one (and he knows who he is) of my players can remember random drops of info I gave a couple of years ago, and wouldn't apply it to the current game... and he's the worst, because he remembers the ideas I had that I forgot myself, or abandoned because they weren't that good, etc.

Or go and read everything JMS has ever written about Babylon 5, and how much *that* storyline changed over the five years.

So I'm totally okay with them figuring out the direction on a week-by-week basis, it'll make a better story.
