Game Discussions The No Man's Sky Thread

I seem to remember early metacritic and Steam (when it appeared) reviews for ED were vitriolic. Common thought was they were carpet bombed by SC hyperfans and the most vehement of the wronged from Offlinegate.
NMS had over 200k concurrent players on Steam launch day, so whilst you can extrapolate from 260-odd metacritic or a few thousand Steamers, it will never tell the whole story (I think?)
That number has decreased in few days to 70k though, with people playing less and less each day.

Ok sit back and if you do not laugh with this then you are not human, perhaps you must be thargoid.

Very much so.

There's a thread on reddit to this effect, cataloging stuff that people claim isn't in NMS but actually is !

(That's not to say that everything HGs claimed is in ;))

Errrrr....no. That thread mostly catalogs *gameplay* which isn't there. Gameplay can't be rare. Some mysteries can be though.

Hope so :) Has anyone met any large animals yet? Biggest I've seen so far was about the size of an elephant. I fed it some Carbon and it pooped out a lump of Omegon ;)

I haven't, but I have seen some screenies of people who have ! (Huge TRex for example :D)

That's just poor way to defend everything that's on that list. People already point out it really, really doesn't.

Anyway, I will leave it here because I don't want to criticise NMS for what it's not - I never bought into HG hype, nor I expected them to deliver on it. Game will live or die on what it has - same as ED - not what it could be.

Back to waiting for ED news from Gamescom. Have good time in NMS!

I totally get where you are coming from. I'm just saying, I don't think the score is a fair reflection for the game.

Throw shade at Hello Games and Sony all you want, that is deserved. The game, as it stands, should be getting average to above average reviews, in my opinion.

My experiences with pre-orders...particularly with Sim City 2013 (I'm still so g red hot about that bucket of horse bile) has taught me that pre-orders, in today's world of digital distribution is just plain pointless. So, I hope this spreads the lesson further DO NOT PRE ORDER ANYTHING!!!!

Now, early access is a different beast that I do still support but I recognize from the outset that I'm taking a risk there.

Totally agree, and just a funny fact, MAXIS is in every picture... Yes it is in this game too, but let's be honest a 3 in Metacritic Score is not that low, look what our beloved Elita Has:

http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/elite-dangerous

So a 3 is an honor for such a faulty game (NMS), and that's because of... Us, angry gamers are brutal and seek to sink any bad product to the bottom of the ocean, and post it everywhere, but on the other hand, happy players are less prone to seek those sites to give a Good score to our beloved games, I personally (shame on me) never qualified with a well deserved 8-10 our Elite Dangerous, and that's why the score is so low right now.

So people posting evidence of things that are in game despite criticisms* is a "poor way to defend" ?!

LOL

You're doing the right thing .. get out of here !

*Again, not suggesting that everything HGs claimed about the game made it into the release version. Just pointing out that some things are despite others saying no.

Pointing out few things that people never seen really doesn't make any of gameplay things mentioned to happen. And those are major things. Content can be patched. Gameplay however is harder to add post release.

See ya.

Yup - we're paying for that now with ED .. you of all people know this :p
We've always known that there would be a significant amount of content coming into ED post-release.

SM mentioned free/paid (whatever) DLC just recently...as if it were damage control. I'm not really surprised that there would be DLC but I think, unlike ED, people were expecting a feature complete game out of NMS. And I think they've gotten it...its just those features aren't enough for some.

SM mentioned free/paid (whatever) DLC just recently

Only if they can afford it ;)

(Look for the "SM was a bit naive on free DLC" posts)

Now now, no need for that now.

"Minimal viable product" is what we received and since then FD have been playing catchup.

However with classic add-ons like PP and now Engineers I am crossing my fingers for something massive at Gamescon this year .. *crosses fingers* Please announce something good and deliver on it !

MVP plus expansions works when it's a solid company like Frontier who has been around for almost two decades. I've really enjoyed the updates ED has gotten since launch, it's so much more fleshed out and fun than the early days. I had a blast with the launch product, but 2.1 especially had a ridiculous wealth of additions, I haven't even bothered with the actual engineers yet but love everything that came with it. Even the forum drama about the AI! If they continue at the same steady pace, I've got no problem tossing down $45 a year for periodic updates to the best VR experience on the market.

I dunno if I'd trust anything SM says about future plans. I think he DID cross over into outright "sneakiness," not just talking about stuff he'd LIKE to put in the game but claiming to massive audiences stuff was already IN.

Things like: "And day has turn to night, because this planet is actually rotating on its axis, right. That's the thing that's really unique about this game (laughs). We don't have just some, like, matte painting that we're switching out in the background. This is a real simulation of the planet."

At least in Frontier's case, they offered refunds for the offline mode stuff when the first wave of disgust went out and took their lumps instead of dodging and tweeting about their minds being blown by everybody on the servers. Yeah, we can bristle of their close to the vest style. We can complain about them not doing three weekly video shows. We can complain about "it's on the list" as a response to anything not actually coming out this year. We can moan about them going quiet until they have something to show, test, and release. But man, at least they generally do an accurate job of announcing features and modestly hyping (in an incredibly British way) their product. I'll take that style over the Sony/HG's Procedural Generation Is Suddenly Revolutionary Roadshow and CIG's Endless Sale-A-Bration ANY day....

They also claimed to be first game where skybox is da real (completely ignoring already released ED) and every star you can fly to.
