If Unknown Artefacts break into Unknown Fragments, do Unknown Probes become anything if broken?

Sorry if in FAQ I did look but didn't see it for looking

Just thought id point out during my spectro analysis ive been listening to what i believe is an audio recording embedded in the signal. the first part sounds like "this is .... What did you say? " then it goes on to a very fast garbled reply to which another reply and then almost like a sigh and silence. However i must point out this is only due to clipping relevant sound signals where as the rest looks like data..

if that was the case, why not fight for Merope? Pleoine? why the particular system we're fighting in? it's not as if 1) its part of their supply chain 2) it has an overdose of barnacles of probes 3) it's easy to get to, the planet is like 90k lr. It's a nothing rock at the back-end of nowhere. Why that system?

Because that's where the UPs point to!!

Where abouts in the recording did you find this? I am picking up hints of voices at about 1-2khz under the globe.

I cant clean it up though, feels garbled.

Well. They came from Sol. So 1000lys around Sol would be more accurate. My point was hoping that the clues leading us to Merope were from one of the ships.

Generation ships were launched circa 24th Century, we are now in 34th Century, so yes 1000 years. But those ships would require a long period of acceleration to get near to light speed so 700-800 ly from Sol is more likely.
if this theory is correct then UPs should be on a Sol-Pleiades line, & presumably they wouldn't have started launching probes until near their objective, so say 50ly either side of Merope?

No, the UPs point to Merope, not Pleiades Sector IH-V c2-16, which was what I was talking about. Why are we fighting over that rock, and not Merope?

Ah sorry, I misinterpreted what you were saying-trying to skim read to catch up on all the overnight posts so I can get back in-game

COL 70 is going to be the missing human colonies but have they changed much? Will they hate us? Will they embrace us? Will they be wanting to come home and take us over? Will they be part of power play? Will there be all sorts of new ships and new stations?

My imagination is going wild :)

I may be getting on a bit, but I'm not too old to enjoy embracing a spacer girl. But I do draw the line if she's got 6 legs & compound fish eyes, and eats her mate afterwards (or before). :D

Hello Commanders. I am new to here and I have a question. As this threadname includes "other mysteries" I decided to try it here.
I a lonesome space cowboy, who made his lonely way to that interesting jacques station (i wonder if anyone of you is around here?). After a couple of days of mining for the community goal I started SRVing the systems landable planets/moons. Nothing interesting so far.
But I found something strange in the galaxy map. As I have not noticed that before I wanted to ask if this is considered a bug or if it might be possible that there is a kind of ghost star appearing in the direct neighbourhood of EOL PROU LW-L C8-197 B
I have recorded a short clip of my galaxy map issues. What do you think? Bug? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QD6X0dDs0TY

Probably a binary star in Realistic view- made that mistake myself.

On cleaning up the spectrogram, this is a great idea :

http://rsln.net/random/data-anim.gif

In that enough images into a moving animation helps separate the signal from the noise.

I tried to do this but could not find a tool or a way to consistently get "same ratio" images to put in photoshop, and resizing those by eye was gonna be a terrible way to do it.

If anyone has the patience, skill or tool knowledge to give this a go then there are about 30 UP audio files in my sig that can be used to do this (Image/Audio link, all starting in nnn_UP_)

Are there two or three recordings that you'd recommend here as good candidates since you have a lot? :) (e.g. is that gif all of the recordings or just a sample)?

I would think that an approach here would be:
1 - Get recording 1 and invert.
2 - Get recording 2 and don't invert.
3 - Mix recording 1+2. In theory the inverted + non-inverted globe etc will be eliminated by waves cancelling each other out leaving just the noise.
4 - Either use that noise-only as the noise profile for removal, or try doing the invert trick again.
5 - Repeat on new recordings.

Not sure though - this is all relatively new to me.

Hmm on this.

You know I have this thought in the back of my mind that it is possible they are not detectable by default.

I mean the UP sits there idling with it's "strips" never lighting (unless right next to a planet/moon).

While a UA (strong anomaly signal source) lights up every 20 or so seconds.

UPs ONLY light up when there's an ADS fired nearby.

I think from now on, if I'm in an area I suspect then firing the ADS is probably worth trying.

I don't know.

That is very good logic. Some people have reported hearing UP sounds on entering a system, but I think that's been rejected as just a part of the background music-perhaps theyre responding to the ADS honk. But if so wouldn't they show as a contact on the HUD?

i like it! on my way to the large crater.

o7

If you look carefully at the UP image the radial line is slightly offset from the grid centre & inner circle which I take to represent the large crater on 5C. I have previously posted my Simples theory several times on this- if you're searching 5C then try the area around the peak of the small crater that's within the largest crater, but I think you'll need to honk a UP there to get the EMP pulse to uncover whatever is hidden. But if you've got an ECM unit then you could try honking that- recent Galnet post suggested might be derived from Thargoid technology so it may do something.

Bitstorm you are my hero....the lighting duration during the hail was 25 seconds.

UP in space

Pleinone 4 (UP given back by support) 25 sec
Ross 47 A8 23 sec
Ross 47 A8 with UA present 23 sec
Sol -Earth 23 sec
Ross 47 (Educating Ed) 20 sec
SPF-LF 1 1 (Educating Ed) 20 sec

So this behaviour IS depending on location (range from spot or transmission of sth) or cirumstances of the recording and has nothing to do with the patch and its transmission cut to 6 mins.
Look at the different results in Ross 47.
There is a pattern here!
I just have no time to do a map or something else due to my wife being really angry lately with he amount of time I spend on here.

(PS i hope they replace your UP one more!)

Edit: referrence back to my source data

No worries, but can I just say on this.

With the UA as the integrity of the UA moved to 0% the pitch of sounds would increase, the cycle time (honk to honk) I think would remain consistent.

This is why I wanted to test on the planet's surface (UP does not degrade) to remove UP health from the equation, but I was not going near a 2g world in a 5d thruster Conda.

I am just saying we have to be careful to ensure integrity of the UP is not affecting this stat. Maybe a longer video and we can check successive cycles to ensure the period you are talking about remains consistent regardless of UP health?

Oh you sod! =p

Genuinely a good thought though.

Can you recall any of the systems this has been reported in?

Sorry I have no idea, they are just records of each experiment. They all should really be of equal quality except maybe the odd crappy one.

That gif was not done by me, it was pinched from a link in the first post. I just thought it was a great way to try to eliminate random noise. The animation essentially provides a way to remove all variations and show what is consistent.

It's just when I tried to do it with the 30 odd samples in the link in my sig I could not find a tool that would output a consistently formatted image that could be used to create a gif.

again, excellent work Cdr. I think it helps a lot.

Had a quick workover on Your posted pic, just using imagination

https://uploadix.de/images/2016/08/17/imageclearertest1.md.jpg

the yellow numbers where a quick tinfoil, just was thinking if their chirality is not right but left, that case we read the triplets maybe wrong - tinfoil off

BUT
left hand table I would interprete as "honk the UP near a barnacle ( under a single star ? ) and the UP will transmit a very-long distance message" - 3 arcs
the green marked area might be a system map, until know as U mentioned, to much noise.
the cyan marked area (Frequency burst) seems to be a kind of triplet barcode or similar ? Again, might be random.

My proposal is, use different soundfiles from different occasions on separate channels, clip them to exact same starting point und mix em together to one channel with dubbing at around 5dB,
this way the single images should add up to be more sharp.... (i use the same for my digi astro-photography, takes out a lot of atmospheric disturbances)

heheh il raise you a
MWA9WBe.jpg

Its all i can see in the spectrogram in terms of icons/glyphs. Also if you look at the original probe sound spectrogram you can see cartographic data on the far left and right.. its not readable but its there.
