Well played CIG. The press, gaming sites, gaming magazins, twitter, reddit even 9gag they are all very happy about the presentation.

This makes it even harder for the critics to explain why this game should be a scam.

Noone says it should be a scam, people say it is and shouldnt be. And its as easy as ever to maintain that, because CIG did nothing new: show cool stuff, promise 'this and much more in the future', and thats it. Remember the amazing Star Marine presentation? The one you'd be playing in a few weeks? That got cancelled nine months later? Now we have a new presentation showing really basic PG of a single planet, with pretty much the same quality as it was when they showed it in 2015. They added the promise "but in the next few months we're gonna make it really awesome, and on like many planets, and we'll give it to you for sure."

As most sane people would say:"Come back when you have something to give me that works as promised." People who were impressed by CIG at gamescom just dont learn from experience, apparantly. :)

Very few people actively use the word scam.

Most of the skepticism comes from the corollary of: Out Scheduled Nov '14, one year in, two more and it gets stale, fully funded at $60M, scope increase will not slow down release, Star Marine is in the game...

Seeing (the released product) is believing from my perspective.

I'm sure it'd be nice to declare victory now, but you kind of have to release two games first. Makes your sneering at the competition a little more effective when you're actually competing instead of pitting dreams and choreographed stage demos vs. reality.

…not to mention Chris' decades-long historical record of over-promising, under-delivering (or just not delivering at all), and breaking company after company in the pursuit of his personal dreams. The man has been thrown out two different entertainment industries on the back of his failures to manage his projects and finances properly. Without any of critical and crucial inhibitions needed to keep him under control in place, the chances of this last attempt ending well are infinitesimally small.

Looks like another year of keeping the gravy train going, then. S42 will get a 2017 release date at CitizenCon and then everybody will do the usual "of course that means Q1 or Q2 2018, you know how Chris is! Haw haw haw! Plus we all voted democratically for this scope change so that means the release dates of 2014, 2015, and 2016 don't mean anything even though we didn't actually vote on a scope change for S42!"

After a year since presented, PG still the same, not even to make a better presentation about the technology behind and its implementation? But try to draw our attention into a elevator that could not be more than a single script with a Move to target command, I still to see better presentation to the likes of Id Studios, still have that of RAGE as one of the best.
And with that Star Citizen presentation is not even close to be a so call CoD killer, in matter of fact, CoDIW had blow it out all the way. Another point, no presentation(news/info/wherever) what so ever about Squadron42?

Some really nice looking parts, and a lot of padding, and as usual many more unanswered questions especially in terms of how any of that will possibly work with multiple groups of people trying to do the same things at the same time without instancing the crap out of it. And if it had been anything more than a very careful curated tech demo then it wouldn't have been limited to an obviously cut-and-shut stage demo, and some tame journalists who could be babysat through it, when their own streamers were stuck with the pos live build.
Nobody cares how that will work, because there is no game:

a good portion of that presentation was scripted; and sources (several) say it was built solely for Gamescom
Exactly what I suspected. That's the point, where something turns into a scam: When someone uses money given to him not to develop the video games promised, but develops one use game venue presentations to cash in more money instead. That's the reason why key people are leaving the ship left and right, because they know that they can be hold accountable for participating in fraud, too.

Really, this is just Kickstarter trailer reloaded on repeat every year.

That gamescon video was amazing! If all missions are generated to that quality I eagerly await its release. Either with 12 scripted missions in 2017, or with a galaxy full in 2047.

Frontier's ambition now seems to be too low. Star Citizen's seems to be ludicrously high...

Star Citizen: Live presentation so good it's perceived as a pre-rendered trailer. [big grin]

Patch 3.0 promises to bring a big chunk of new content:

IF they can get just even half of that by the end of the year I'll be highly impressed. Chris Roberts said that CitizenCon will showcase even better PG in a new location, I will guess it's Terra landing zone because it should be featured in Squadron 42 and that should be the focus for CitizenCon Los Angeles!

The usual +$million milestone breached: $119mil and counting plus ~15k new accounts since the Gamescom Presentation it's been another great event for CIG, proving again their marketing mastery by avoiding publishers focused E3. Not too shabby indeed.

Bring on CitizenCon LA!

As I told you all, Star Citizen's Gamescon presentation would rock. And they did, as always. GOTY. Nobody has doubts of their capacity and the groundbreaking work in progress and how much progress they made. Best game devs and Lead ever. Chris Roberts raised the pressure and now Mass Effect team, Frontier and others are desperate.
Can't wait.
2050 will be a great year for the Space Sim genre.
Almost forgot... buy Jpegs.

The demo is impressive, but we will have to wait and see as with all CIG promises. As with Aliens: Colonial Marines, it doesn't mean anything till it's in our hands

This could be promising, December will tell us

Contrary to what some SC supporters have posted on here on how the presentation should silence the detractors, I'm more of the opinion than them scamming people now than I was before!

SHAME BE UPON THEM.

Frontier's ambition now seems to be too low.

I 'd like to disagree.
The mere fact that they do not share your, or my views of what should be in the game now, tomorrow, or perhaps ever does not mean that their ambitions are too low.

FD has a very steady approach to developing the game and adding layer after layer.
This just takes time and they have a lot in store we know nothing about.
FD is not as talkative, loud and boasting as the SC crew. FD does not like to promise much in advance.
