Had to think about this, but in the end I decided that:
- I definitely want both ship and module transfer in the game.
- A bit of a wait won't really be a problem. As long as we get a clear indication of how long the wait will be (an ETA countdown of some sort visible in the shipyard, for example), we can do other stuff in the meantime while waiting for the ship/module to transfer.
- Due to the above, I am very much against instant transfer. Plus it just feels wrong, regardless of the cost.
- The wait does not have to be equal to the time it would take for the ship itself to travel the distance. I'd be fine with it being around half the time an Anaconda would take to travel the distance, plus maybe a minute or two to avoid near-instant transfers for short distances - From an immersion perspective, this can be explained by having three pilots flying shifts for long-range ships, or having the ship loaded into a larger, longer-ranged, carrier for shorter-ranged ships (also incidentally explaining the cost of the transfer).
- For destinations within the bubble, wait times will never be severe if we use the above formula. Even a 400ly transfer would be less than 10 minutes if we ignore fuel scooping, use a reasonable 30ly/jump and 30sec/jump, plus a 2-minute 'startup' time - Just enough time to make a cup of tea, but no more than that. On the other hand, transferring to locations such as Jaques would still take a LONG time... as well it should. Given that, I see no reason why instant transfers should be necessary even from a gameplay perspective.

The whole ED community is nonsense.

Want to wait hours for ship to be delivered but also want mod upgrades hand to them with as little time invest and effort needed.

This.

If you want trasfer ship manually go for it and don't use this new function.

I guess that the most people posted here asking for a delay are the ones who doesn't own a fleet.

The delay is right when you have 1,2,3 ships.

Once you have 20 ships and you want to upgrade them in 6-8 different locations then the "delay" time becames a pain in the ass.

Instant trasfer is the right answer to a gameplay balance.

period.

For all people talking about realism and whatnot, just accept that Frontier is pretty arbitrary about what should be realistic and what should be game like. I mean, there are mining stations and refineries everywhere but we gotta travel the galaxy shooting rocks ourselves to get mats for engineers, we have state of the art computer systems and GalNet in our ships but we can only pin one blueprint per engineer, there is no travel log, and if you refuse to use eddb.io then you gotta play station roulette to find the things you want to buy. None of it makes any sense (don't even get me started on the harmless black holes).

Could advocates for instant transfer please stop using the argument that 'as the game isn't completely realistic everywhere you should not argue against a feature', when that feature has potential major gameplay implications? The obvious (and silly) comeback is 'Well OK! If weaccept instant travel, we can have that everywhere!' - which is also a fallacious argument. :)

It would be nice if the game-play elements for this were actually thought about beforehand by FD.

If it were possible to order ship delivery to and from remote locations with delivery taking some reasonable and realistic time to be carried out, then this would add a small strategic & logistical aspect to the game. This would increase game play somewhat.

I would like to know, out of the people here demanding long wait times, how many actually have more than one ship they use regularly ie: would actually use this feature and why are they even here making this demand if it has no impact on them.

possible (not perfect) solution, in Open there is a delay for the ship to be transported, Instant transport in solo mode only which then locks out open for the amount of time it would take to transport in open?

Oh and solo mode should have less influence on BGS to further balance things out?

I have around half a dozen. Not actually sure on the count. Plus quite a few others that I don't use regularly.

I have every ship in the game. I think instantaneous delivery will be a really bad idea.

If done I will simply max my Anaconda jump range and never use any other ship for travel. Just magic-ing the needed ship at each destination. It'll make the game so much easier, simpler and boring.

Based on the reactions on the thread, they will change, certainly

I don't think so. Sandro appeared pretty adamant on the livestream that 'instant' was here to stay as 'gameplay > realism'. :(

So we're probably only looking at cost balancing. Which Frontier have such a great record in... ;)
