No matter how many emmissive rounds and thruster sniping missiles hit you, once you experience the flight model a silent running ship allows for, there's no going back to a shielded ship. :D

Maintaining superior positioning is key at all times. Whether they can target me or not makes little difference as long as my position remains superior.
 
I think that thruster sniping missiles or anything that stacks massive heat damage takes all the fun out of PvP, so I've decided to run all Incendiary.

Meh, missiles I'm still okay with since there's counter to it that isn't stacking more missiles.

I actually do have a question, have you fought an opponent that boost and FAO and fly backward with chaff and use emissive/scramble weapon?

If so, is it a pain?

If not, would that be a hard counter to your build (it appears so theoretically)?

Heat is universally despised since the only way to counter it is to stack more heat, missiles (Not thermal cascade) on the other hand is manageable.

I'm not referring to heat, I'm referring to missiles in general. It's only an issue if you're dumb enough to fly without shields. Silent running is dead, don't see the point in complaining about a hard counter to the build.

And to be honest, heat-meta is fair play against a silent running ship, heat is their biggest weakness so it only make sense that it's a counter to that. If it's drive sniping with missiles that's the issue it's pretty easy to counter... don't PvP without shields, silent running is not made for combat it's made for emergencies and escaping. We all saw what happened when people used nothing but silent running for PvP.

I have no sympathy for someone who complains about something but refuses to adapt.
 
IMO the best PvP fights are always the ones that are either super close (regardless of winning or losing), or the ones like this where you can hold out against overwhelming numbers for a relative long time...again regardless of escaping or dying.


Disclaimer: I don't play Elite for PvP and have not done PvP since Alpha - other games are a different matter

Using fixed multi's sacrifices maneuverability, a wider firing arc, AND a faster firing rate. I don't see the benefit in loosing those traits. The FUN comes from a flight model that is second to none.

It takes no more skill than shooting someone with missiles.

The thing is, gimballed weapons have been sufficiently countered in various ways for years. Countering incoming missiles however, is not nearly as simple for a stealth ship. For example, as the game stands, SIX POINT DEFENSE on my FDL struggle to provide any form of missile defense. (This the embodyment of broken)

Furthermore, there's no reason why the effect of emissive rounds should be essentially infinite. This is especially true when thruster sniping missiles are so easily added to the mix. I think a good balancing factor would be to base the module damage missiles inflict on how much overall hull damage they do.

Flying silent has always been the most challenging and risky way to fly.

Those who need a crutch use shields. :p

Actually, unlike so many others, I refuse to accept victory BECAUSE of a certain module. My victories in combat have always been gained by my ability to outfly my opponent(s).

TIL shields are a crutch and if you counter Z4's build he gets mad. The amount of knowledge on this board is insane!
