That's interesting because I'm 100% for transfer, just not instant transfer. I imagine you think I'm in the "no transfer" camp which is not the case. So on that we agree!
Group hug!!!
Transfer is good, instant is not....

But there could not be a game without the current death system unless it was forced iron man (not a bad thing)
However there can be a game without magic transfer , infact its a better one - more depth
No because multicrew teleportation (which WILL be required, sorry but it will) will restrict you to just being on your friends ship. When you are finished you get teleported back to the station you were originally on. Problem solved.
Gameplay and immersion. That would actually be a very clever solution. Could extend that so that your friend has to have actually hired an NPC at a starport which you then just play as for the time being. It makes sense indeed.

Yes , but ship tranfer pushes it.Actually no your wrong because FD could have quite easily made the game with forced IronMan mode if they had wanted to. So why didn't they? Because of gameplay, because its not 1993, thank god those floppy disks with save games on them were precious!
Point being 'magic' already happens in the game in lots of different places, you either accept that or you don't, there isn't any inbetween choice to suit your argument.
This would make sense but for the fact that the instant gratification crowd can use the mechanic, and the immersive experience crowd can not use the mechanic, and both can play the way they want without any problem. Heck, someone can make a private game that is "no ship transfers" and that is fine. Or someone who doesn't want it to be instant could use it, but then set a little timer and they don't use the ship until then. It is a game, so you can play the way you want to play it. By not providing the option at all, however, people who would rather spend their playing time playing can play.
Some people are talking about their immersion and so on, but this doesn't really break immersion at all. Nobody can justifiably be upset about it not being "realistic," it's a spaceship simulator with FTL travel - if someone wants a realistic immersive experience of waiting for gratification, they don't need a game at all, just do real life.
Gameplay and immersion.
Or they could make it so that every time you die you change charecter but keep the assets? semi logicalAgreed. That is the only way I can see multicrew working. Teleport everyone back to where they last docked after a session. The issue is how would material rewards from the session be distributed, if at all, to prevent actual commodities teleporting with the pilot.
Yes , but ship tranfer pushes it.
Not just for immersion but removes so much depth , so much gameplay.
Maybe not for you , but for me it does.
IWhat's the point of ship transfer with delay? If it's slower than going and getting the ship yourself, why would anyone bother?
There is a solution to that.
If you want to be YOU in game you have to fly to the other players location or , you can play as a random merc who can meet your friend at any station. (downside you dont keep any money the merc gets)
And you see, that is the philosophical line in the sand. For some of us (I hope more than just me!), it DOES matter how the ship got there. That's it in a nutshell.
You either care how the ship gets there, or you don't - it all boils down to that.
As much as you don't care, you should be able to understand that other people do care - hence the issue. And as it hasn't been possible in the past, all of a sudden it would seem FD don't care either. That's quite a change for those who do care about it.
Actually no your wrong because FD could have quite easily made the game with forced IronMan mode if they had wanted to. So why didn't they?
I like the space loach , I even think he is a cool guy (sandro , the loach is not realSock puppet says no!
That sounds like a really expensive way to participate in a CG. Probably more than you'd get as a prize. But do keep trying to come up with some kind of edge-case where this will bring the universe down around our ears. I'm all ears.
So then essentially the issue here isn't actually instant ship transfer, it's your own grasping and attachment that is causing you suffering and misery. If you let go of this attachment then you can find happiness, even in a world where ship transfers are instant.

It only removes gameplay if YOU want it to.
If I want to play Skyrim and use the fast travel option then I am removing gameplay. (I dont use fast travel systems in games like that btw). But there will be some who will want to, they are losing that potential gameplay, the point is it is a choice.
