Never really tried but did get attacked twice 2yrs ago. However, I would give it a go but only in a tiny Ship that would still need kitted and MODs to the hilt due to insurance costs. It's the 1 thing that has not been balanced as the costs of Ship go up due to needing Mods.

Came back to see what enginers was like, spent weeks getting everything upgraded, killed about 10 times by different CMDRs in about 10-15 seconds by heat spamming weapons everytime while they politely informed me I was "rekt" or a "noob"

Tried heat missiles once, killed target in a few seconds, realised how mind numbingly boring PvP is now

Now I just solo explore

PvP has become a joke

Trust me.... PVP is coming back. Thermal weapons made the shield meta even more bland but a diamond in the rough was also included that could make PVP an interesting and varied affair.

Now tell me where PvP actually happens so I can test the thing.

I've tried a number of non thermal effects as well as an FAS geared and engineered for silent running with cooling beam on a short range blaster and seems nothing can stand up to new meta effects. Right now how you engineer has much more to do with victory than your skills. It's pretty lame. They haven't a clue about balance so not really fun.

Just go to the next combat CG and you're golden.

I've tried all the options I could think of to combat the heat meta, though, and every single time I stood my ground it resulted in my Vulture being reduced to molten slag. I'm not saying it's impossible, just...unlikely that you've found something that works, because the entire PvP community has been on the case since release and not a single person has managed to do so effectively. Yes, there are options which let you escape, but...a weapon which only allows your opponent the options of run or die is simply game-breaking.

Then you my friend should watch this space.

This seems more like an issue of big ships beating little ones... however I expect you could be right. There may well be absolutely no load out possible for your ship or any PvP ship that can could compete with the raw power of the Heat Weapon meta.

Will do. A change that favours skill over load out (within reason) will be very welcome. Some of the most fun I've had in gaming and some of the best gaming friends I've made started through PVP encounters and here is no different. I also am not having a go at anyone who adapts well to any current meta or anything like that. I just feel there are a couple of detractors throwing PVP way out of what: Heat weapons and engineers generally.
Frankly, I think level one engineering is perfect. It's easy to acquire and the differences are slight. In a fit between equals they can give an edge, but nothing extreme. The same goes for some of the special effects, like drag munitions or the cooling beams etc. I also think these should be available to all players so competition doesn't become pay to win. Disclosure, I have a LTP and have played since mid way through beta release.

I definitely agree with this. There's one or two special effects on every weapon that should really be openly available.

Substantially worsened.

Many of the PvPers that I learned from initially have left, heat is lol OP, and the rest of the special engineer effects seem overpowered also. If you discount heat, it's still basically a rock paper scissors where rock, paper, and scissors are FdLs with different builds.

On top of that, people have left PowerPlay en masse, further lessening meaningful PvP opportunities.

I'm intrigued as to how the PvP community feel about 2.1/the engineers update, and if it's similar to my experience

You'd do better asking on reddit. A lot of PvPers don't bother with the forums anymore. ;)

*Looks at Thermal Shock and Cascade*

*Sighs*

It worsened...

Depends if you can out heat the heat metas.. Anyhows, I grinded for months for those weapons.. lolz

They are great for ganking, perhaps not so great for a balanced 1v1 fair PvP fight.. But whose interested in that? [haha]

If you have well engineered heat weapons PvP is fantastic. If not, well I know a station where you can get a tiny violin to play a sad sad song. Other than OP heat weapons, it's not so much different than before. Big ships are hard targets, little ships are nippy [EXPLETIVE DELETED] that are hard to hit targets. But those [EXPLETIVE DELETED] heat weapons....

I had some and used them and realised how false that statement is and then moved on to other things in the hopes that that would change.

This poll is re-confirming Community Manager Brett C's statement regarding this forum is composed of a majority of PvE players .-.

Which is not surprising, whatsoever.

Not surprising at all. They've driven a lot of PvP'ers off the forums, never seen such open hostility to a playstyle before and its gone on for years.. I mean if you are being called all the names under the sun and having mud slung at you all the time why would anyone stick around?

Not having paid out for the DLC, I'm unable to survive against modified humans.

So PvP, for me, is now futile and out of the question.

The last fun bit of PvP I had was in the ships beta with a Viper outside Jameson's.

And the best of all: If your opponents decides not to "take part" in this no fair play moment Frontier will blame HIM to no fair play.
