Would have been great if there was some kind of radio station or fan made one that says about news live. Would've helped a lot today.
Pat made himself a mod because: Pat.

I think if FD had had the time to create server-run, pre-scripted NPCs which could be set up to spawn at specific places and times for everyone in all game modes (solo/open etc), then they would have done it exactly like that.
But they haven't built that feature (yet, perhaps), so they had to do it some other way if they were going to do it in-game. They could have done away with the ships and used local news - but you have to agree it's a bit more 'real' if there's an actual ship to be found. As long as one person is kind enough to share with the rest, it's fine.
As for the quests, well... It's a very RPG thing isn't it. RPGs pretty much all have a grinding mechanic somewhere.
Bit like life, really.
Oh, I don't understand, sorry.
Does he work for FD? Or for whoever manages the forums?
Anyway, never mind, it's ok!![]()
Possibly best to have the discussion on the Forum Support section? (Not complaining! It's just it's more likely to be seen and acted upon there.)
Yep. I know the event was set up as only "starting on the 28th", but inevitably everyone was expecting some sort of payoff on the 28th. Now a good chunk of the engaged playerbase is disappointed. This thing needs to wrap up pretty quickly.
And I'm not a fan of this "meet the pseudo-NPC" mechanic. Between the limitations of ED's instancing system, the large proportion of players who don't want to play in Open, and timezone considerations, this mechanic is very exclusionary. There were (I estimate) somewhere between 500 and 1000 players trying to find these guys, how many actually got to see them? 20? Less? There are already too many lotteries in this game without this sort of thing. I like the idea of this sort of interaction but I just don't think it's practical. Persistent POIs would probably be a better mechanic.
I got it!
The first guy said that there's somebody lying and he also said we could solve the puzzle after he gave us those clues... Since we are unable, that means he is a liar, therefore he lied when he said one of the others lies too. Since those two cancel out each other that means at least one's lying and since only one cant lie, because then the first guy would be telling the truth, both of them are liars.
The solution is easy: everyone lies, there's no truth!
P.S.: It's a joke, before anyone takes this seriously...
I like the idea that they're trying something new; and intercepting a ship and having a 'conversation' is a bit more dynamic than another signal source with floating cannisters or wreckage. True, not many people saw it; but then that's kind of what makes it a bit more exciting. You could be one of the few - or the first - to find [whatever it is we're looking for]. If everyone can find it at any time, it becomes a bit more pedestrian and mundane?
It probably don't mean much but going back to the riddle about the pre logistic support and stuff it says "to find US look for a bounty hunter" . So the bounty hunter (granger) should really be the one that leads us to this mystery.
After seeing saltiness in some posts about not finding anything significant, remember, the communication was the 'HUNT BEGINS' on the 28th. The community hyped this expecting to find something significant. If it was managed to be done in the course of a day then people would be mad because they'd have to wait two months. So why not 'drag' out the hunt until release?
Maybe the past few months, or CG's rather, have all been a ruse. The Jaques based ones specifically. Convenient he reappeared in a nebula (a convenient hiding spot) before more alien objects started arriving. Convenient he's requesting commanders from the bubble leave and help him. How would he have known about meta-alloys? Don't they come from barnacles which started appearing while he was, missing? Convenient he's setting up a base to start a colony and will likely start requesting people from the current bubble to populate a 'new bubble'. Is it just a ruse set in motion to 'soften' the current bubble for the impending return of another race?
Despite the somewhat disappointed mood a lot of the participants are feeling, I'd like to say that you all did amazing! Consider the fact that within minutes of receiving clues you all had the next location narrowed down and were already en route. Keeping such a voracious group of sleuths content won't be an easy task for FD but at least they're trying. Some games never get in game mysteries even though the player base would kill for the chance.
If anything this should be considered a chance to reset and rearm for the next leg. Keep in mind the hype that was generated was mostly our own doing. The first clue didn't say we'd solve it on the 28th just that it begins the 28th. Now would be a good time to evaluate what went wrong and what went right, then incorporate ways to improve for the next leg. Great job CMDRs! Make sure to practice a bit more expectation management though. o7
Well said.
The term "us" does appear a lot in this mystery... Someone with lots of patience and a certain skill could tell us what we are actually looking for... Who is "us"?!
