Dear FD. The hunt begins on the 28th - but ends a few hours later

After having reading what happened, I'm surprised FD didn't have an elite fully modded squadron comprising of small, medium and large ships drop in, or at the least have special unique mods on the T9 making it near indestructible. Doing that in open with no protection for an event proclaimed to the whole community was just asking for trouble.

I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall for that encounter tho.

FD controlled Type 9:

"Greetings commander, I have a message for you"

SDC PVP Greifer:
"......."

Opens hard points....

Unloads on Type 9

Boom!

FDev employee
".......well I didn't expect that"

Lmao!

Make a better game FD!

FD is ignoring that message for a long time now. Remember Hutton? They simply don't care because those few players simply are unable to affect most players.

While (kind of true) the last precedent we had was the God-modding of that CG back in July where they overrode the actions of a few players for 'the good of the many', so if Frontier don't like what happens in their sandpit, they will override it.

The one thing last night did show me, was that engineer mods have done nothing but shift the balance of power further towards the combat build ships. When you can't outpace your target and they can hit you out to 5.5k, something's amiss with the balance.

It encourages more 'PvP wing switch to sidwinders and kill each other, racking up a profit for a night of PKing and laughing all the way to the bank' though. It's not a good solution. Bounties are meaningless when they serve as a pay-out for crime, rather than an actual bounty. Worse than meaningless, in fact: High bounties would be an increased pay-out to your wingmates, plus of course a large 'score' on the criminal scale of things.

Making the bounty payable out of the criminal's own insurance might sidestep the issue [like charging you for your own execution], but I honestly don't believe than any monetary penalty would work that well, given the ease of making money.

I would've thought fixing that was basicly a given. It's basicly an exploit no?

This thread reminds of me a discussion panel where DBOBE told the audience about the game dealing with griefers via a bounty system, and one audience member, an EvE Veteran, asked him about whether they thought about two commanders working together, with a friend killing the guy for the bounty and them splitting the money. That actually had DB pause and go ummmmmm for a while. It was clear to me from his reaction that Frontier utterly hadn't considered this.

Or better still .. Let the messenger fly an Engineer pimped Corvette with crew members on board! The first ever.

At this point im inclined to think the whole game is broken.

Engineers has ruined I basically.

Any ship with the proper mods has a big massive I WIN button that they just push whenever they want.

I feel sorry for the non horizons owners.

Once ship launched fighters come out they had all better stay away from open.

Against a wing of engineers modded players that all have ship launched fighters it would be like candy from a baby, and non horizons owners can't do nothing about it.

They will become the toilet paper of the game.

Non horizons owners, stay away from open, FD don't like you, and have balanced the game against you.

I was watching the SDC stream last night and they were taking about sharing scripts for cheat engine.

I'm pretty sure they don't have any money making issues.....

Okay, so we've now established that asking frontier "what are you doing?" isn't going to happen because people are too busy grinding axes.

Best of luck with that; because just imagine what would happen if you asked the question, instead of ignoring it. :)

Agree with OP.

Sat was fun, exciting, incredible watching and attempting to unravel the clues (I was so close with some of the ciphers).

Sun was 12 hours being ganked by prats. The game needs some sort of response/system banning where if you keep on killing people you get a military response (along the lines of the space station) where you are done, end of. If you pop up again in that system you get the same response.

12 hours, 60mil in credits all to see nowt and be forced into a mode of play I don't enjoy.

No salt, it is what is it is and I like the idea of how more fluid this was although as executed the mechanic isn't right as its boring to almost everyone else and bloody expensive day out playing in supercruise.

Sad thing is, though I normally play PvE (in private group or solo), I was willing to try Open again to get involved in the hunt. Promptly got ganked near the station at Massagetae from an engineered heat maniac as I was trying to jump out. I suppose I was caught unawares. Fair enough - it happens, I guess.

However, since I have very little interest in PvP, this (if nothing else) made me realise that I should probably just leave Open to those that do...no matter what incentive FD give.

So, congratulations gankers! You have convinced me that I made the right decision to abandon Open in the first place. Enjoy targeting more NPCs, and each other, in Open at future community events as I (and, I'm sure, many others) won't be participating.

Yeah they're all about racking up credits as ammunition against possible retaliation. Back when I reported the mining multiplication exploit in the bug forum, I received threats for that, with people demanding I remove that report "or else".

I can only hope that these threads and the activity within them does catch FD's eyes. There's been several really good suggestions on how to combat this, as well as some excellent suggestions for enhancing legitimate PvP (making piracy much more profitable than it is now for example) - and these suggestions would 1) Make the game less of a playground for sociopaths, 2) help keep people in open so that 3) actual ingame piracy and PvP can happen.

We need to get real consequences into the game for those people who just want to shoot fish in a barrel. Just like I'm putting anyone who utters "lol just go solo" into my Elite Forum Sanitizer blacklist (makes not just their posts, but also threads created by them disappear :) )

Yes the combat balance is completely broken since 2.1.

My comment about those players not affecting everybody else was primarily about instancing. The message the "quest giver" CMDR had to deliver was already given out. The only thing those player killers managed to do is to kill a tiny portion of the player base interested in that event - because the way instancing works.
(And I partly agree that FD will do things to keep their story line going the way they want, but I don't think it happened in the events you mentioned - but that's an other discussion and one that leads to nothing)

Nothing would happen because that question got asked again and again and again. FD is ignoring it.

Now that is funny.

A threat of getting placed on a KoS only works if the usual encounter is not KoS. The time where that matters is long gone. Accept it, your buddies ruined the game for you and you don't realize it. For those who you place on your little KoS list nothing changes.

How is it a threat o.o?

It's a reminder, if anything it's kind of me to do so.

Plus, I don't see how my game is ruined. If you mean piracy, crime and punishment is partially the culprit for ruining it, if anything.

Cuddle List on Sight? Naww, Gluttony, feel the love. ;)

Don't do it. Don't shatter my steadfast belief that that is cuddle list on sight, it's all I have left.

Lol I won't shatter it don't worry.

I wish people would defend me against all the KoS pirate lists out there that I'm on, but of course not, that would be outrageous.

That's the core of the problem.

No that's the inevitable outcome. The core of the problem is the lack of response from frontier when asked what are they doing with crime and punishment.

Yes they may not answer. That doesn't mean people should revert to attacking each other, than repeating the same question to frontier.

Because eventually if frontier is asked often enough, and they ignore it often enough, large portions of their market leave and suddenly they are absolutely answering the question, at least if they wish to remain a viable game company.

Every time frontier add a feature, or decide to enact an unusually approach to solving mechanics, there are eleventy posts with people having a sparring match over minutia. This is no exception.

Keep asking frontier, what are you doing? They can't actually afford to ignore that question forever. No one has that luxury.
