UAs, Barnacles and other mysteries Thread 8 - The Canonn

Everyone, are we even looking at the same picture from the gamescom leak? I can't seem to line up the crash to look like the image at all... The "wing" that comes out of the main "pod" has a kink in it that tapers into a point near the ground, almost like an elbow on a spiked arm... But I can't see that here, only the upper part of the "arm". Maybe there are more crashed ships like this one for us to find (using the same assets in different arrangements)? Is that technically possible? Also were the ship(s) hovering above the crashed alien vessel ever discussed (gamescom pic on the fp, you can clearly see a ship or two above it (above left, above right), blue lights from the small thrusters I'm guessing because stars don't appear that big)? Can we get an estimate on what they might have been based off of current footage from the site? Apologies if this has been brought up before, hard to tell with 1100 pages and it's not been discussed on the FP...

brainstorm by now

this "ship"like thing might be kind of scout drone, come out from some portal near merope.
this ship's mission is ----scout how the portal's this side look like, is our space safe for it owner,it carries those probes.
when its on scout course, it went into some cmdrs and had a fight, like that white cobra in the video
in the first video , something went out from those "leaves".i think this thing coming out is what we called unknown probes
"leaves" might be this scout ship.
with ship damaged, cant scout like planned, it crashed at the place where it was found.
the probe's sound image might be the space data (probes were found in a ball shape near merope),or its a SOS singal.
its metrial, some cmdrs feels it like bulletproof ,and no dmg when ramming it. means its kind of Organic compound, flexible and not fragile.
just ignore this if you feel im joking:D

It does make a sound but not on the wave scanner. At certain spots it sounds like sand being blown at glass. Spectral doesn't look very special with the sound. See here: https://i.redd.it/4o4xp4uu4jix.png

I heard that sound too... How do our scanners work? Is there a technological reason behind why it may not pick it up? In the recent interview with Drew, he mentioned that Thargoids breathe ammonia that is -100 degrees less than our own oxygen, therefore they prefer the cold (and why heat weapons may be very useful in an all out war against them...). Is it possible that our scanners simply can't detect them because they work on an infrared spectrum?

If so I would like to suggest that someone to drop a UA and attempt to have it scan the alien ship (I doubt this will work either but it's worth dismissing via experimentation, also this is not my idea, I saw someone else mention this too)

Actually confirmed by MB himself. Few pages back.

Y'all can stop the tinfoil now..
Well, that's not really what he said. He first said:
"This crashed object is the objective of the hunt." here
and then
"Nothing new is being added now until 2.2's release." here

Nowhere did he say "Thanks guys. It's over. You figured out everything. See you in October".
I am not saying that there's anything more to discover from the "crashed object", but MB's answers don't exclude it.

So, there could be more to the crashed object than just "looking cool" and "doesn't cause damage when ramming it". And, there may be more stuff out there to find, but nothing will be added at this point.

(See, Tinfoil still working! ;) )

Point taken, but the eye section is distinctly octagonal, and Thargoid ships were almost always described as such. So early evidence would seem to be in favor of.

EDIT: I stand corrected. This is what happens when I look the VERY first thing in the morning before coffee or glasses.

It cannot be Thargoids, earlier game lore does not support this claim at all, I mean, almost nothing matches

Core is similar, but not enough to be decisive, while the "arms" are sth that has never been seen as a part of Thargoid design. Graphical limitations could not be the case, because we have seen different ships in different shapes even back then. Also color is not adding up, its again not a problem for graphical engines of Elite 2 and EFE to generate different ship colors. Gentlemen, we have a second or third alien race, I tell you.

It's clear that this is just there to be looked at so we get an idea of what a thargoid scout ship might look like.

FDev have not rendered the underside of the ship so it will most likely be an inanimate game object.

Shoot it , ram it, love it, it won't make a difference.

We just have to wait now to see what other clues FD drop or that might be it until 2.2

There were supposed to be 2 more CGs based around this which might have taken two weeks or so to do.

But since we've already found the end item there's no reason to do them now.

I mean Its likely they have changed how they look since you know newer engine and all that, but hey it could be anything untill we get a live one to scan ;)

I don't think we can go off this information as we have already been told that the aliens have undergone an extensive re-imagining (listen to the latest Drew Wagar interview, along with DB talk about the design for the aliens) to be more "alien" and less "human". The only things we can go off for real Thargoid lore lies in First Encounters (and some of that has been confirmed to have been redone). I could be wrong though, it's hard to see through so many layers of tinfoil...

Also, is it entirely impossible for the Thargoids to have used another advanced species to re-configure their ships to deal with the Mycoid virus? We do know that they would have had to deal with that first before coming back for a fight....

Oh, I didn't know that aliens were reimagined. I mean, I knew Drew changed his lore guides, but I thought it was just because some stuff form the past wasnt adding up and FD decided to get rid of messed things. Thank you for clarification :D

I think the advice generally is, the only lore that exists in this Universe, is the lore than has appeared in-game and on Galnet and in the ED official novels. Completely ignore previous games (certainly elite 2 and 3), because everything has been "re-imagined" ie rebooted.

I'm not sure you can use color of the wreckage as an accurate indicator. In debris fields, all ships are an equally grayish/brown, regardless of type. Clipper/cutter hulls, Eagle fuselages, you name it, everything looks like it's covered in brown mud.
