So you want to know about the Formidine Rift? (Part 3)

I hope you're scanning all those poor little icy moons too!
I spend my exploration time finishing off systems other explorers have left incomplete [wacko]

I've full scanned so many systems out here. Sometimes I hunt and peck the lesser stars, but every single O/B/A one I've been too I've even gone all the way out to the 500kls ones.

It was somewhere in the col 285 sector, like I said I had updated the drivers for my graphics card and thought it was because of that,
but now i think more of it and it happend only 2 times it should happen more times when it would be a driver failure, it was like someone flashed a blue light at me

Thanks! So it happened in Pleiades, at least the one time you took that picture. And it wasn't during jump sequence like in my fall. Since Pleiades, the Formidine Rift and some other regions seems to be connected, i don't believe it is hardware problem.
I left the Rift and made a journey to the galactic rim, until the stars were to scarce to keep the direction. Now i'm heading back. I didn't encounter those lights anymore, not once. But i will take extra time in the Formidine Rift now on my way back.
Do you remember in which region of the galaxy did you encounter those lights where you didn't took a picture?

Ok, that changes things. Col 285 is one of the bubble sectors, so if it were a game feature it should be noted by many commanders already. Then probably it is a very rare glitch.

Regarding the route plotting. It's possible is a bug or the game is trying to find routes directly around you. I'm experiencing that myself right now trying to cross the gap between arms at near the widest point.
It could also be part of the mystery. The old lady does say you need to plot your way. Which could mean you can't rely on the nav system 100%.

I'll also add that I'm thankful these stars are all or at least mostly scoopable.

I posted it on UA thread but nobody seems concerned, probably because it concerns the Rift.

I saw something strange. Bovomit sector "requires", but what ? Col 70 and other areas of space need either "Unknown Permit" or normal permits, but somehow Bovomit "requires". First i thought that something is buggy, but i checked it thrice in a span of a few weeks and its still there.

Nice spot. Knew it was locked, but perhaps it is unlockable already...

Oh, and Rep for 'thrice'.

Is anyone aware of any references to Hawking's Gap or the "Confluence", apart from Salome's last message? Literally, anything at all. I can't recall any.

I believe Hawking's Gap is a player-named region of space, towards the Galactic Core. It also refers to gap [or gulf] between human and AI thought processes.

As Siranui pointed out, Hawking's Gap and the Conflux were regions named by Corbin Moran (Conflux) and myself (Hawking's Gap) in May/June when we were adding regions to the community galactic map. Among others added at the time they were actually meant to be temporary placeholder names while we worked on creating a regional overlay map for EDSM - but they've found their way into the lore via Salomé's comment - so will now be permanently marked on the community map.

You will not find any references to these regions prior to the Salomé incident in Ceimess.

This is an interesting twist and certainly wasn't in my thinking when Hawking's Gap was named!

Its also purely coincidental on my part that Hawking's Gap lies along the R/R line in the opposite direction to the Formidine Rift!

Discussed on UA thread about a year ago if memory serves correctly. No answer known

Thanks. I suspected as much, but it is good to know.

One ponders if it was part of FD's process when they decided upon its official adoption...

RE: Hawking's Gap...If I had to guess, the AI thing makes sense as there are supposed to be rogue AI out there in the galaxy (mentioned in the kickstarter dev blog days). Whoever decided to mention the region in the lore could have seen some larger meaning to the name that I didn't, and also saw the potential intrigue the location of Hawking's Gap can throw into the mix.

Or they could have been just two names of 45 other community named regions randomly plucked out of thin air when Salomé made her distress call.

Drew knows... and he aint tellin' :D

The stars don't get difficult to navigate until about 200 or so light years beyond those two nebula. I'm about a quarter of the way between arms and am having to backtrack a bit I'll likely have to move in to where there's less of gap between the arms and I'm rocking 52ly.
