Never been much of a fan, although I love the snakeskin logo.

Like some of the other posters I just call it Elite. It's sufficiently distanced in time that there's not much chance of getting it confused with the original. If I have to specify then I call it ED.

I feel the same way, but a certain Michael "Soon" Brookes told me personally face to face that Elite IV does not exist. And trust me, if you ever meet Michael face to face in person, you won't argue with him either (we do love you really Michael :D )

I keep calling it "Elite frontieeeeer" all the time, I'm not sure why. My GF (who's not a gamer at all) even asked me why (which tells how often I make the mistakes, since I probably said it quite a lot before she noticed)

I thought it was called dangerous because that was the highest rank that DB could get to - oh no, he is coming after me in his Cobra... Help - is there an elite pilot that will come to my rescue ! :)

I am not a fan of the name either. But I am a huge fan of the game :).

I think the name should have been a better reflection of the grandeur of the game and its virtually infinite universe.

I would have liked something like Elite Forever, although I know that has been done before.
Or perhaps
Elite Galaxy,
Elite Universe,
Elite Infinite, Elite Infinity
Elite New Frontier or simply
Elite IV

But also just Elite would have been preferable to the current awkward name I think.

I guess a name change might depend on success or fail of the testing phase, the possibility of rebranding existing, should the game break for long periods of time, let's hope not.

Personally I don't mind the name, feel it shows a little humour .. If I'd never heard of the concept before, I think I'd maybe think .. "Elite" but not too up it's own self .. Elite "Dangerous"?? How hard can it be!! I'll give it a go .. Oh! Quite dangerous! Though I shall not be beat! ?

Elite on it's own might have copyright issues and you'd always be saying "the new one"?

I do not think the choice of dangerous, is complicated to explain. This is simply a galaxy dangerous and hard. It announces to the player, where he puts the feet by buying the game
