So you want to know about the Formidine Rift? (Part 3)

Well... I'm pretty deflated right now. Just slammed into the surface of a planet in the PHROEA EAEC VJ-Q E5-5 system and exploded. Probably lost about 1000 systems worth of data.

On this trip I passed through the Heart and Soul Nebulae, NGC 281, and was planning on visiting the Bubble when I died. I traveled a bit along the Formidine Rift edge but did not venture too far in.

On the bright side... I passed through a very strange system:

BD+55 191: Is inside the heart of the NGC 281 Nebula. It had two sets binary O-Class stars orbiting each other (4 O-class in total) with 1 'landable' planet by the first one. I should have explored it but I missed it on the map next to the giant stars, and only saw it when I was well out of the system.

Here's a shot of the main binary O-Class pair:

Here's a shot of the system where I died, PHROEA EAEC VJ-Q E5-5. It was also a pretty strange system to be honest, but I'm relatively new to this game in terms of exploration experience, so my lens of examination might not exactly be tuned. Are these proto-stars in this system?

I'm now wondering if FD could have been evil enough to hide morse/binary messages within the system maps using star/planet positions?!?

That is really odd with the star positions between the planets.

Sorry to hear you crashed by the way. Been there done that and lost data. It is pretty crushing.

I'm trying to update my knowledge about lore, as most of it is still based on info from the past. But i tried to find Drew's new lore guides, to no avail :( Can someone direct me there ?

P.S Searched the FP, nothing there sadly :/

The transcript of Alessia Verdi's speech; MacKenzie Relay, Cemiess.

September 3rd, 3302.

Video of the event is linked on post #4101 (by Ulysses_W).

Alessia's revelations...

  • Salomé discovered something between Tionisla and Cemiess (possibly someone doesn't want her to divulge what she found - hence her arrest?).
  • Whatever it is its linked to the Formidine Rift and the discoveries made in the Pleiades.
  • It is also connected to the Scutum-Sagittarii Conflux and Hawking's Gap.

Who is Alessia Verdi ? (.pdf 3.8mb)

Given the specific wording in the script(script as I believe this to be an npc played by an actor): "watch for any mention of these sectors. If and when we find out more, we must be the first (to) explore them" I take it we can't find anything in these sectors or between them just yet.

That's how I see it too. If I had to guess, I'd say we'll be hearing a lot more of these sectors after 2.2.

I think Alessia Verdi is a player though if she is being fed info from Drew we can consider her working as an 'advanced NPC' in this scenario.

What is unclear to me is :

Does between Tionisla and Cemiess means between the time when Salomé was at those place (i.e. beagle point trip inbetween),
or between those two systems in a geometrical sense.

Also, is there anything to find or is the text just there for flavour ?

I am inclined to think Salome found something between the Time of The Eofots clue (5th August) when she was in Tionisla for the internment of the Cobra and the time she was captured in Cemiess (20th August). While Salome has been in Tionisla multiple times, it would make most sense for Alessia to be refering to the most recent visit of Salome to Tionisla.

The PR for her capture started on the 13th August so it may be she found something before then but it is possible her capture is not directly related to what she found and is intead down to internal Imperial Politics.

I suspect that there are some Herald articles dated after the 5th August in systems loicated toughly between Tionisla and Cemiess that will throw some lite on Salome's movements which we can then use to narrow down a region of interest.

IIRC Drew has stated we have missed clues in the past due to articles being too far in the past and the article limit on stations so this may be his way of getting us to look for them.

Do we have any reason to believe this is anything more than fanfic?
Extremely well executed fanfic, yes, but still...

I'll consider it official when it shows up in Galnet, and not as a Freelance report.

Alessia Verdi occasionally steps in to take part in in-game events when the narrative means Salomé can't. She is effectively an understudy that is used to help bring parts of the story off galnet text and into the game itself, allowing players to physically interact and speak to some of the characters from the lore.

Alessia Verdi's speech could have been posted as a simple galnet article, but an opportunity arose for her to appear in game and deliver it in person to those who were present, and that's what happened.

Jaitou is correct, both Salomé and Alessia should be considered as advanced NPCs - both are role-played by persons who work closely with Drew, and only via the direction of Drew.

The smaller white ones are probably T Tauri stars with slight rare chance of a Herbig Ae/Be star.

My condolences on the crash!

Oh ok, was wondering as I hadn't noticed their type on map before. What struck me was the weird configuration of stars and planets in this system, haven't seen one like it before.

Relative to the crash, I think I'll recover. It's funny how one small lapse in judgment can lead to total disaster when everything seems peachy... I don't think I'll forget to check the gravity again!

Could be worth having a look. I'll hop into my cobra tonight and see if I can spot something in the local news sections

Good question. I am curious how these things are established too.

For example, planet I just scanned is Methane-Rich atmosphere type BUT it is 96.1% Nitrogen, 1% Argon and a measly 2.9% Methane.

Thats still high for Methane

"The Alien World" was written by Professor Steven Eisler - a pen name used by Robert Holdstock who, of course, went on to write "The Dark Wheel" and the game manual for the original Elite. There is a LOT of cross over between "The Alien World" and the lore of the Elite universe. Raxxla, The Dark Wheel and much, much more make their first appearances in "The Alien World".

I did a video about it:

Yeah i found this out much later. I read The dark wheel before I read this.

I think it made Raxxla more exciting as i didn't know it was the same persons books

I've been scanning systems between Tionisla and Cemiess and checking Galnet. Currently in CRUCIS SECTOR FW-W C1-25 and getting a graphic glitch I havn't noticed before.

Whatever it was it went away as I got closer, wonder if it was just distance cliping

Did you scan any of the planets, they don't look like proto stars more like cold gas giants. Resolution isn't great though, I found a large water world like that 4th planet but prob wasn't as big as that.

First 1 is mettalic next 2 metalic lava. 5th is metalic, 6th gas giant 7th is the interesting one, did you scan it ??

8th one is interesting also, it could be a star but like i said res isnt great, next one looks landable, next gas giant last 2 dont look like stars but gas giants buts its hard to tell.

I was going to scan them before I made speedy contact with the first planet's surface! Wish I had at least taken a look before dying.

Here's a higher res screenshot (1440p):

Gonna make it a point to head back to this system if I'm out there again.
