On my latest trip I kept track of +/- ELW for a large number of stars in classes A,F,G,K,M. The derived frequencies suggest how to optimally weight manual plotting if you're specifically hunting for them, as well as what to expect if you're just cruising along with auto route plotting. Note that the data were derived exclusively from the right hand quadrant of the galaxy (viewed from above, Sol at bottom; Perseus Arm) so it can't be guaranteed that the frequencies will be the same elsewhere (though I'd guess that's the case). There are obviously too few ELWs identified in the case of M type stars for the data to be accurate, but at least it provides a ballpark comparison.
Class..........# Stars Examined..........#ELWs..........Frequency
..A...................1805........................34................1.9%
..F...................2701........................39................1.4%
..G...................2412........................26................1.1%
..K...................2808........................22.5..............0.8%
..M..................4665..........................5.5............. 0.1%
Below are a couple of favorite screenshots from the trip.
