A Shipyard is for buying/selling ships surely? Ship transport isn't anything to do with that so surely falls under a different requirement?

Are you suggesting we shouldn't be able to transfer ships to Hutton Orbital?

And your take on including distance from star to destination into any ETA calculation? eg: Should an ETA be the same to a station 10ls from star as 100,000ls?

Isn't it likely going to be shipyard = ship storage.

And if you're swapping into a new ship then your old ship needs storing.

Therefore shipyard.

I suppose they could sort a new gui thing aside of the shipyard but my impression they don't want this to require significant work if possible.

You will also not have to risk that T9 getting interdicted whilst you fly to Palin, OR when you fly back. That goes beyond just being a QoL feature.

So? Same would be if ship transfer wasn't instant. Or, are you against ship transfer altogether?

Besides, with the current mechanic, and especially with the new route plotting coming in 2.2, in theory i could plot a route with near zero chance of being interdicted. Either empty systems or high security systems as i reenter the bubble.

Doubly so if i'm not carrying any cargo on the way back (on the way there, if flying myself, of course i'll have to be carrying some cargo the engineer wants).

So isn't the likely approach going to be every location gets a shipyard, and buying and selling is then available not available?

Well I think you'd have to be able to sell if that happened, just not buy.

It just seems the more straightforward solution is keep shipyard locations as they are. Just less work all round isn't it.

That might make sense yes... Especially to keep things simple...

As a known "no magic" supporter I'me definetely don't like this idea=)
Sorry, don't follow!?
So if I call my T9 to my current Engineers, which currently has no Shipyard, you see a problem with this?

It surely only doesn't have a Shipyard at the moment because they don't allow the purchase and selling of ships? Well I'm not doing either of those? I'm transporting and storing a ship... What's the issue?
Sorry, I know that my English level is far from good, so I'll try to re-explain. I like the idea of the planned ship "transfer" with ~ real times - something like described in that post - and not any kind of instant "recall"/teleport/print.
But looks like exactly the latter will be implemented. Giving the ability to magically summon your ship in any port, not only ports with shipyards (and all systems, not only those with "large" stations) is in fact just one more aggravating factor from my point of view.
If not speaking about really new interface to implement this function (by dividing shipyard "types" or creating any other "special" service), which requires a good amount of work for developers.

(*By the way - good ETA graphical estimation is in my signature - TOF)
Strangely enough, I haven't feel much protest about not counting ETA in ship transfers.
Oh, we all remember this "bug" with winged commanders jumping to wing member beacon. Ok, that was in fact an issue, so don't really counts.
One more much more important remark - as I remember I've heard some kind of "promises" that somewhere in future releases we will have the ability to somehow select to which star in system (if more then one) we want to "jump" (and the announced new jumping screen with the destination star "visible" can be a little step toward implementation). This ability can greatly reduce ETA times.

Sorry? So "not counting ETA in ship transfers" means? Instant travel? Or not bothering with how far a station is away from the star as regards an ETA?
The latter one - i.e. the particular part of ETA as in-system supercruise travel time (regarding the probable possibility to select star of the arrival)

Can you give a game example where you feel Push would benefit over Pull? Is Push simply trying to save time?

ps: And of course Push would be a slightly more complex interface than Pull too!

How about both? That would more accurately reflect "reality" wouldn't it?

So for me:

Ideally - both

Acceptably - either

Please no! - instant

Docks with shipyards are the only places where we can currently store ships - as they are the only places where we can buy a new ship and store the existing one - implying that docks with shipyards have ship storage facilities....

Agreed, but do you not see it likely that we'll now (as of 2.2) see every location get a Shipyard, and you simply will not be able to buy ships within it if it's not available/applicable? However you will be able to see your stored ships, and possibly sell?

If we dont get instant ship transfers lets not have instant transporting 500 tons of cargo instantly into our ships.

Why?? Have you got an example gameplay situation that can demonstrate your reasoning? ie: What delayed cargo loading will help/solve/improve?

Actually no - I would expect to only be able to summon ships to a dock with a shipyard (i.e. a location where ships can currently be stored) - however that may be another barrier to gameplay that will be removed.

Is that the official line? I mean they could just add the ship screen but not have any ships for sale if they wished.

Oops - you already answered that one, sorry.

Fair enough... But don't you think maybe at the moment, a Shipyard is only available or not, based upon if you can buy (or sell) ships? Because you can't buy a ship there, thre is no way you will need ship storage, so hence it need not even be offered!?

Well, as off 2.2, we do have a way of you getting more than one ship to a location where you cannot buy a ship... So now always offer "Shipyard", and "buy" is optional.

It would provide a neat way of restricting the impact with only the larger stations having teleporting facilities. That might be considered too restrictive by the advocates of teleportation though.

Who knows....

It remains to be seen whether we will be able to summon ships to a dock without a shipyard - as we use the shipyard menu to change to a stored ship.

We will see in Beta.

Well, we can't possibly have any barriers to gameplay!

Come on now...

Is there anything unsound with this thinking? At a location where you cannot buy a ship, it's currently impossible to store a ship and sell a ship. So simply the premise of not being able to buy a ship is enough to mean the "Shipyard" option is not needed.

With ship transfer now you can get another ship to a location (other than buying), so the Shipyard option is application... so it's offered :) You simply don't have a "Buy" feature there.

Now if we instead see some gameplay that can be improved by not allowing ships to be called locations without a "Shipyard option", fine... But IMHO, a lack of "Shipyard" doesn't mean to me yuo can't store ships there... It just means you can't buy (or sell?) ships there.

But yes, we'll see in Beta:-
1) If locations without a Shipyard can even summon ships.
2) If the option is withint Shipyard, or elsewhere in the UI.

Personally I think you'll be able to summon ships anywhere, and sell them anywhere...

Clearly not. Way to take things personally though.

I'm not taking it personally at all... Just pointing out needless person jibes...
