And its true. 90% of the bickering in every discussion about Star Citizen, not only in this thread, is based on ignorance about how game development is indeed a troubled non-linear mess of fluid as in adapt as you go decisions. (Ooking from the outside it looks chaotic and unprofessional but its just how things are done in this type of business.

Yes, and that's exactly why Daikatana was good

You have plenty of examples to pick. Both Daikatana and Duke Nuken examples are flawed because they had nothing to play before release whille with Star Citizen shows things as they go. Go search about Doom 4 delays, Witcher 3, GTA 5, Diablo, Titan etc

Sure. When CR says "You're gonna get Star Marine in a few weeks tops!", followed a few months later by "just a few more months guys!", followed a few months later by "Nah, you aint getting it, sorry, it was a load of crap and we couldnt get it to work." is totally how other companies develop games. Other companies also routinely push their release date back by, you know, a year. Every year. We just dont understand game development. :)

when game developer you like to cite is skeptical about star citizen you should definitely listen.
He is making pretty good points on why you should be skeptical about star citizen.
the gamestar interview makes it just more clearer. Since chris himself admits that he has no idea on what features he has promised will end up costing.

You just cant pick and choose facts You use it as a whole.

Haha, sure. The witcher 3 had an original release date of autumn 2014, and was released six months later. GTA 5 was scheduled Q2 2013, and released september that year. Diablo 3 had an original launch window of Q1 2012, and was released Q2 2012.

Star Citizen was planned for 2014. It currently doesnt even have a release date any more.

And to put some context into the rough idea of development timelines.

That Mass Effect video states pre-alpha. It's due to release in March so 6 months away. SC has been a "pre alpha" for bloody years and seems set to remain so.

In case you all missed it there is a massive poll going on regarding new features in 2.2. A lot of excitement and heated debate. I've literally see entire pages of discussion fill in a matter of minutes. FWIW, nothing in this thread will be nearly as interesting for a while.

Laterz...

It's in pre-alpha and seems to have a coherent game put together. SC has... what does it have exactly? A Benny Hill skit?

Now that's open development and community involvement! Well done frontier.

This thread has more comedy value though...

As sleutelbos pointed out, Daikatana and Duke Nukem are two prime examples that share characteristics of indefinite delay, as with Star Citizen. Those other games had delays, but they were not extensive in the sense of SC, and nor were they indefinite.

It's adorable to try and claim that an untested company self-publishing it's own games with zero self-published games to it's credit and led by a someone with a problematic history when it comes to finishing projects stretching back to the 90s is somehow the peer of critically-acclaimed, award-studded, industry-leading companies like Rockstar, CDPR, or Blizzard. They have delivered time and time again on a level CR's Pentium-era nostalgiathons got nowhere close to! It doesn't matter if CR's ambitions are EVEN BIGGER and weigh more on the Perceived Ambition Scale, it doesn't matter if they reuse engines, it doesn't matter if they haven't fully mastered the intricacies of localized physics grids... CIG just isn't in their league. Not by a long shot.

Just because Rockstar, CDPR, or Blizzard pulled off these big projects to fantastic acclaim despite a few delays doesn't mean it's a cinch for a VGA relic to do the same. There's a REASON those companies have the reputations they do and CR has the reputation he does. There's a reason why when offered work at Blizzard, CIG employees tend to suddenly become ex-CIG employees.
