I wanna go all the way to the big leagues. Capital ships or riot!

Jeebus. Don't you think we've already got enough power creep in the game already? I'd far rather Frontier added in new versions of the classic small Elite ships (KRAIT! MORAY! GECKO!), and filled in some rather large blanks and gaps in the current roster with either more ships (BOA! PANTHER!) or more variants.

Now do I want NPC Frigates, Destroyers, Large Liners, Bulk liquid carriers, Tankers, Container vessels, Agricultural ships, Hospital vessels, Atmos. shuttles etc. etc. as static/dynamic features to add flavour to systems, and act as focuses for potential missions? Oh, heck yes. :)

If we add em we should make em flyable :p
No sense in wasting all that art and design effort just for NPCs ^.-

Also.
Frigates and Destroyers should be Free Content Update.
So no Powercreep.

We are listed as Commanders. Not as Pilots.
So I want to Command something :p
Not just Pilot Fighters!
 
Can't vote as there is no option for "only if frontier sort out large ship combat".

It's a dog fighter game at present. Majestic class and above don't dogfight. They pound and shoot from range. Something the current game engine has no ability to facilitate.

People want large ships, then are disappointed they can't be used like giant ships. Change the engine to support them, then go crazy.

Or? - expect that plucky lone vulture pilot to utterly, utterly cave your giant majestic interdictor's head in. For game balance.
 
I would be happy to pilot anything, even an escape pod if necessary (provided it has a small FSD drive and fuel scoop) ! I expect to always be the pilot. This game is version 4 in the ELITE series ........ do not expect to be anything but the pilot ! Mr Braben's vision is crystal clear ....... in first person view walk out to his ship, fly to any location in our galaxy, land his ship on any planet that would support the human body, walk or drive some distance, admire his ship and the view above ! A small cog in a huge machine, one man one ship.

I imagine that the dev team are already busy modelling the insides of all the current ships with a view to add the ability for players and npc crew to move freely about .......... imagine the work needed for capital class ships !

They only said to Model the Bridges.
So i dont think the work for a Capital Ship would be that much bigger.

However this Poll also lists options to only increase to Frigates and Destroyers. Both of which wont be so much bigger on the Bridge than the Federal Corvette.
 
Regarding being a commander ....... not sure about Elite's lore but isn't a Naval Commander a mid rank just below Captain ? Pretty sure they can only go up to Destroyer level of command. A vessel of a few thousand tons.

Correct.
A Commander is allowed to take Command of Frigates and Destroyers.
Currently the Biggest Vessel in the Game is the Cutter with 1100 Tons.
Which is within the Corvette Range that usually sits between 500-1500 Tons
A Destroyer usually is 1800-3000 Tons. :)

ED follows the sizes and concepts here pretty well.
 
Wrong game. ED is all about being a small cog in a large machine. You don't get to be an admiral.

Yet.

More is always good and I'd love to see more in the future.

Like maybe 5 years down the line.

Implement the rest of what they want to do first. Space legs, More SRV's, atmosphere landings on earth-like worlds, alien life both sentient and not. Land, atmo, and space battles from first/third person shooters to SRV combat to ship combat. Base assaults and defense.

Give me most of those things first. Build the universe.

Then give me a playable Farragut to test out before you start building bigger ships.

1. Why? I have absolutely no problems with certain ships being NPC only and adding more flavour/colour/life to the galaxy. I for one am not of the "I want, I want" mentality. So if the art assets are there just for show then it's fine by me.
2. Yes we are Commanders of our own ships. That we pilot. So you get to command yourself and if/when multi crew comes out you get to command them too. But this game is about "sitting in the <expletive> cockpit and flying the <expletive> ship". There is another more popular(?) game you can try if you want the other style of command. Why should Elite be a cheap copycat of that other one.
3. I'm only for these big ships if they are NPC driven. Having to have a human crew to pilot these ships effectively would shut me and others like me out of this content, which I hope would be a paid expansion (then I don't have to buy it.) Again if they were implemented I would probably ignore this content (like I do CQC). The only problem I have with these ships (like I have with multi crew) is how would these affect the game balance for players not interested in these features.

Dont need a Farragut.
A 2800 Tons Destroyer (a bit more than two times the Imperial Cutter)
With 3-4 Class 5 Turrets along the Beam of the Ship as well as 4-6 C3 and C2 Hardpoints all over the Ship and I am Happy

And its not Copying anything by adding Larger Ships.
If anything it would be a cheap copy if it stays with only Fighters. Cuz we got tons of games which exclude larger Vessels.

Diversity of Ship Sizes and Types is not intended to have everyone pilot the same vessel.
But to make sure that everyone got a choice he likes.

You got your favored ship type. Why deny others to get theirs ? :)

There is a reason why the current Capitals have so little details on them.

ED follows the WW2 Naval principles on almost any front from ship layout to usage and sizes.
And if you only got yourself to Command your not a Commander :p

Well the more distinct feature is the ability to actually fly Ships.
Games like Freelancer or now No Mans Sky were you can play online ALWAYS limit to Fighters etc.
Games which allow you to get Bigger Ships like EVE are usually indirect controlled games.

Currently the only Game which will go for larger Vessels in a similar setting as ED is Star Citizen.
And ED would be well adviced to beat them to the chase here because Large Vessels got way more impact than Fighters :)

Just go with it; sunleader likes to argue for the sake of it. So yes, they want a bigger ship. And when that exists, a bigger one. All of them unusable and unflyable in the current Cobra game engine.

I just call it like it is. That screams Farragut to me given the cinematic I've seen of Cap ships knifing each other.

Before FD starts implementing capital size ships they need to take steps in making us feel more like a living entity in the ED world. The way it is now it feels more like we are just a ship and not an actual living pilot.
