Should ED start instantly when launched or should there be a delay?

Nice joke post, honestly I would like the option to start cold, you then need to turn on the power plant, shields, thrusters, sensors and so on, anyone else ?

Yep... esp if you are not docked at a station... logging out of the game is, essentially, take a nap, so turn things off to consume less fuel (if you are out in space and not docked, that is).

Your post exactly captures what I take to be the pointless desire for group suffering/masochism on the part of those who can't seem to grasp the point of a game.

Talk about strawmanning an entire group there and misrepresenting their argument. As someone who voted for a delay, every time I have to wait for a ship, I will sit back, relax, and think fondly of you and your frustration :D

You do realise that the thread is a spoof?

Right now Elite Dangerous starts up practically instantly upon launching it. I don't like this very much. I think it should have some sort of delay, and possibly base the delay on how many folders away from my hard drive root the the exe is.

I would make a poll right now for the answer but I'll probably do it after a little delay.

Side note. Does anyone else hate instant messaging? Back in my day we had carrier pigeons transport letters and that took days if not weeks to get a response back from.

I really do wonder ....

a small delay might be ok, ive been a bit sore lately...

I think this is a very slippery slope; adding delays to anything and everything in E: D will give CMDR's reason for pause and contemplate the meaning of it all, inevitably leading them to the conclusion that playing E: D is making no sense and is a total waste of time.

What will be next? A crazy notion that we'd have to wait for ship transfers? That will make no sense at all! Oh wait...

Not if you have multiple accounts it won't ;)

I'd actually forgotten to vote on my other account, thank you CMDR Mack o7

Bit of a delay getting onto the FD site (rural BT) and after a short delay finding my other login details, I was able to cast my erstwhile forgotten vote!

I decided to go full on FD and let RNG decide and the double headed two bob bit said DELAY!

Can we please stay on topic? ;-)
I was reading the forum and watching some youtube while loading the game but since I have win10 Elite is on almost instantaneous. So put delays everywhere I don't mind. Maybe it gives me time to play farcry4 again.

OP is correct. There should be more enforced delays and waiting. You should have to wait hours for cargo to be loaded or unloaded. Refueling and preflight checks should take ages. You should have to wait in queues outside busy spaceports for hours and hours before a pad becomes free. Etc etc etc. Of course I could enforce these delays on myself but I don't trust other players to play the game correctly so therefore FD must force us.

Yes Yes Yes!!!
..also more in-game virtual cockpit thingies like buttons, knobs, dials & maybe even sliders!

That game is actually under development: Rogue System.

Edit: thread about RogSys on FDEV forum.

On-(somewhat implied)-topic: I voted for ship transfer delay, my son says I must be insane to want that in a game.

OP has excellent ideas. Allow me to add more.

Every time I crash my ship I throw my whole computer out the window to reinforce my immersion. If the computer survives impact outside then I don't delete my save game.

I feel this is immersive and everyone should experience this. To that end Frontier should hire a black van of thugs with a scanner that detects when someone crashes their ship in ED, kicks in their front door and then smashes their computer a couple times with a sledgehammer.

If the computer still works they don't have to delete their character. Should they refuse to delete then the thugs will gently persuade them to change their mind.
