So, what about that Star Citizen game eh? Anyone playing 2.5? How many comms arrays are there in the PU now? I saw 9 (I think?) on the 2.5 feature list. Do they all have different missions?

I have been playing a bit. If you guys want to fleet up you can hop in on my Discord server and we can organise a Freelancer Multi Crew!

So....Second Life? That's a game already.

Second Life.... IN SPACE!

Like, that makes the Star Citizen *totally* different man!

You can live out your space-dream life in your space-dream ship with your space-dream wife and space-dream kids, recreating all the epic space adventures you remember from the time you read Dan Dare and Flash Gordon and saw Star Wars in the cinema!

Just think! You'll be your own Hans Solo-Flash-Krull-Space Robin Hood hero/anti-hero space pirate/rogue in space!

And then you wake up and realise that actually, what you are playing is a dated, poorly implemented, buggy as heck, bare bones as heck, space shooter-wannabe-fps-wannabe-MMO-wannabe-space sim-wannabe-space explorer *thing* that doesn't do hardly any of those genres it wishes to emulate.

But that's ok! You lived the Dream though! You were part of the wonderful journey that was Star Citizen! Isn't that enough for you ingrates! Isn't it enough to have been part of the Vision?!

Wait, you're serious?

You actually think that Alpha 3.0 will have 20-30 systems with stations and planets?

With bug fixes?

With boarding combat that works consistently and without glitching out spectacularly?

With Interactive quests like they showed in that very tightly monitored and performed Gamescom "demo"?

Really?

*HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!*

Oh wait, you're being SERIOUS! In that case then, let me laugh even harder!

Stations are so far apart that it would take forever, because of the 1:1 galaxy, not a micro FPS map. However if you wanted you could, clearly demonstrated by other players who had the time. What happens are the match making and the instance creation, we have been over this many times. Come back when SC has more than one moon or planet, heck more than one system.

Currently. ED is Fully Instanced.
You create an Instance when Dropping out of Super Cruise.
If your close enough to something you.ll end up in the Instance of this Object.
Otherwise you Create your own.
An USS of course creates its own Instance as well :)

This works up to an Certain Distance. And Links you up. So if you Spawn 700km away from a Station this Station will be the Instance your in.

However. If you Started at an Station 50 Light Seconds away from another Station.
And then spend a Month or something Flying there you would not find that Station. Because your in the Wrong Instance.

If it was sold to me as Second Life in space, I probably would have still backed...but for totally different reasons :D

I don't know how I would have made it through high school without Diablo 2, Second Life and Nirvana.

Wow... How incredibly.... Boring?

Dull?

Predictable?

How exactly like every other video regarding gameplay in Star Citizen that I've ever seen that was.

Nothing groundbreaking.

Nothing even close to being "special" in anyway.

2 and half hours of that? And the streamer trying to keep things "interesting" by theory crafting his way through the mundane combat and tasks he was performing?

Yep, that was certainly... "something".

They better have some REAL knock-your-socks-off in-game, real-time stuff to show at Citizencon in just over a fortnight's time, or this whole thing is in deep doo-doo.

To make an better Explanation that might be easier to Understand for the Layman.

If Star Citizen goes for the Minimal Product.
This will mean that the Alpha 3.0 Gameplay will be Pretty much what you get Delivered as Release Gameplay. Except some Minor additional Polishing and Bugfixing.
Thus the Big Changes between the Alpha and Release. Not being more Features. But instead they will Start working on Building the Universe to Play in.
So the Release will likely look like the Alpha 3.0 but instead of 1 System with a Few Stations and a Planet. You will have around 20-30 Systems with Stations and Planets. :)

This would currently be the absolute Minium Viable Product. Given that the Stuff they Showcased is already Developed to the Point of being Demonstrated like this.

Nope that's pure theory crafting based on them trying desperately to row back wild expectations, they will never achieve even that much.

Whats currently available is an MVP, that's why CR was happy to say Star Marine was already in the game. Look at the quality and the depth of star marine as delivered in CR's opinion that's the benchmark CiG apply to MVP delivery.

However. If you Started at an Station 50 Light Seconds away from another Station.
And then spend a Month or something Flying there you would not find that Station. Because your in the Wrong Instance.

That is correct! However, technically nothing prevents FD from implementing a loading distance threshold. I think I remember Sandro saying that they see no reason to do this since this is such a fringe case.

What? The way you are writing and the purpose of what you are writing is to entirely attack SC. Can you provide something constructive to your argument? Or is this just an SC bashing post with no real talk?

This is one of the reasons why I don't like the conversation here at times. Where is the actual conversation? It's been 5 minutes since the video is posted and you have made comments as if you have watched an hour of it and you are providing no valuable information to why these thoughts have are actually there. It really looks like people have an axe to grind just to grind it.

Funny thing a year back a lot of people believed that what you are seeing would be live or playable and that CIG and SC would crash and go bankrupt.

Anyway anybody who wants to play some Star Citizen is invited to my Discord server. Please PM me to get a crew going. We can also discuss about the game do some QA stuff and talk about the worries and problems too. I wouldn't mind!

Discussion? I guess we have different definitions. I would venture to guess you don't like the game very much.... so why do you "discuss" it?

Nice try dude.

But as you can see, you can fly to the surface of a planet without changing instances.... It's just with the distances involved it takes a bloody long time to do so.

But hey, I'm sure you'll be along to try and disprove this indisputable *fact* with further back pedalling "reasoning".

Also, my laughter from earlier still stands. I understood perfectly what you mush-mouthed earlier.

It's still laughable.

I had seen the actual livestream when it happened Mr Nowak. So I actually knew what it was from the thumbnail.

My points still stand.

It sounds like you're confusing instances with grids. What grid you're assigned to is a very different question from what grid you're in.

It's entirely possible to travel between grids without employing supercruise, and the game will assign you to the correct instance as appropriate. There's this now-classic example of a ~20Mm trip between two completely separate SOIs, for instance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XY7E0DEp5yI

Didn't know you watched it. But explain your points.

Predictable how?

Nothing groundbreaking how?

Nothing close to special how?

You make these points but fail to explain them to create an actual discussion and counter points. Please let us know your reasons so this thread can get a bit more like an actual thread about the game.

It that video he's already at the planet, is something like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t51EDw-mdHo possible in ED?

I do want to like the game, honestly I do.

Unfortunately CIG, Chris Roberts and what is presented as a "game" currently, makes it supremely difficult for me to try and do so without dying from Acute Hypocrisy Syndrome. Often characterised by trying to find no faults with something you see before you and ensuing degradation of the critical thought processes in the cerebral cortex which lead to the aforementioned syndrome.

Sorry.

What points?

I could post the same exact thing about Elite (I find it terribly boring atm) yet how does it in anyway really add to a discussion of the game.

Can you post one of these many existing videos?
I just did.

e: And while we're on the topic, it should once again be noted that both ED and SC are late-comers to this particular feat. EVE's grids, especially with the size extension they got last year, make these kinds of trips so common-place as to not even be note-worthy in that game any more. Granted, EVE ships are also a lot faster than anything you see in ED or SC, so the sense of scale gets a bit weird, but still. After the grid size expansion, the famous old Jita 4-4 grid would habitually extent to be something on the order of 0.5 Ls across, immediately ruining lots of people's bookmarks. :D
