Hardware & Technical Logitech Acquires Saitek

http://blog.logitech.com/2016/09/15/creating-immersive-gaming-experience-logitech-acquires-saitek/

Saitek has been bought by Logitech. There is hope for the future now and while there has been no announcement on when they will release their next HOTAS, we can expect that their quality will improve with Logitech in charge. :D[hotas]

P.S. Mods, sorry if this is in the wrong forum. I just wanted to share the good news with everyone.

Good news!

I've been a big fan of Logitech products for years. They've always lasted a long time for me and they're nice products. I've only been disappointed in one or two of the Logitech items I've bought.

I don't see how the reduction of competitors benefits us, we just end up with less choice. Isn't this just one less competitor for Logitech to worry about? I'd rather Saitek stayed as a separate company.

Why bother if they aren't making quality gear? I've already made my mind up that I'm never buying anything from them again, perhaps this new development will change my mindset.

I see two simultaneous outcomes of this.

1) Logitech/Saitek gear becoming more expensive

2) Products becoming more reliable.

I think I can live with the first one, if the second one is significant. I went through four Saitek joysticks in two years...

Saitek was not a separate company. They were owned by Mad Catz, which has a reputation for producing unreliable crap. Any Saitek Hotas that were bought before their acquisition by Mad Catz were significantly more reliable than what they produced afterwards. In addition, Saitek was struggling and Logitech can give them the cash infusion and management expertise needed to stay afloat. Those are all good things.

So what happened to Madcat? The last Logitech stick I had died even though I didn't really use it and just left it sitting on my desk. No complaints about their mice though.

Pretty much this - here's to hoping for a quality product from Saitek again, and another viable choice for a quality HOTAS.

Terrible news, more Logitech crap that breaks for no reason from a company who's customer support is telling people to buy a new product because they refuse to offer spare parts ever for money. The best parts I have for my Logitech products I 3D printed myself because it last longer that way.

I've never really heard bad stuff for their Joysticks and mice. their other stuff, on the other hand...

I've never had any major problems with anything. My logitech joystick got tired after 1000hrs of use and the deadzones needed adjusting but that was it.

Could be good...doubt they will have a new hardware release before I pull the trigger on the new Thrustmaster HOTAS.

EDIT: I have a Logitech 3d pro that has treated me well for almost a year and half.

Logitech are great for basic functionality and compatibility. For example, My Logitech wireless USB game controllers, keyboards, mice, and headset have been fairly solid built and are plug and play in both Windows and Linux (Debian/KDE) computers for me.

They're pretty basic though and not what I would really consider higher end gear. There are better keyboards and mice out there as well as headsets. I've never used their newer joystick (it isn't wireless) and keypad but they look fairly decent for the price. As far as game controllers now, there really isn't such a thing as a high end one any more that I've seen. The Elite Xbox controller looks nice enough, but doesn't add any real useful functionality that I would want, such as it still not having square analog stick range of motion for full multi-axes control.

I use Eneloop AAA and AA NiMH rechargeable batteries (charge doesn't drain by itself over time and they're good for thousands of recharge cycles before degrading down to 80% capacity potential), which are much better than many stock batteries in wireless gear, and I can just switch them out with a charged set I have waiting whenever I need to.

I wish Logitech made higher end products as well, but for what they are, they're quite good and have gotten better, at least in my experience.

speakers still work after 6 years- what is the argument? [hehe]

Can't quite compete with my surround sound setup though. But yeah, I have some of their small amplified stereo desktop speakers as well now that I think of it. They work pretty well for what they are, but certainly aren't something to write home about.

I do wish they made some higher end gear though that had the same kind of compatibility and reliability, though some of their stuff is a little on the flimsy side – certainly nowhere near the worst I've seen though.

Competition is good.

Might eventually be able to challenge TM

I like the looks of the new TM mid range stuff, could be a nice affordable solution in the mid range for those who don't want to invest in Warthog.

If Logitech can improve the Saitek quality and perhaps re-brand some new stuff it will provide more good choices for everyone.

This can't hurt. Saitek deserved to fail. They did it to themselves with unacceptable quality.

At first I was going to say that being bought is not failing...but then I checked. 30 million dollars? OUCH Not good.
