Why should I pay 150$ to play beta now? Question from a 'Star Citizenite'

That is like my least favorite thing about SC. It is pay to win.

The one thing SC has going for it is graphics. Other than that I have not been impressed.
Delay after delay after delay. And the constant presence of them telling you to buy even more.

When you buy elite PB you buy something you can play online with others today. You buy every expansion that will launch. You get full game access including any and every ship. You are an equal to all.
No hidden fees. No pressure for more purchases.

Pay2Win seriously? You just buy an Aurora Starterpackage (What is currently a little bit cheaper than Elite WITH Alpha and Beta Access) and you are good to go at the same way...

But i stop at here to tell... dont want to turn this into a SC VS ED topic addionally this comparison lacks because both games are not done and i see absolotly no sense to rage against any one of this two. BOTH ARE AWESOME projects!

Iam just saying that in this 150$ packages there is not much in it FOR ME to make me throw money. Iam going to buy the expansion pass soon and just wait until the game comes out so i can fully enjoy the working game without beeing a bughunter that has to pay for hunt bugs.

Well we don't know how balanced that Aurora will be up against the other ships in Arena Commander. I've got an Aurora, and I'm looking at videos of folk flying Hornets and thinking hmm, at what point do I get a game where I can get my hands on that asset? It'll be years, so if I want it now I have to increase my pledge. If I'm going up against those hornets in AC with their extra weapons, fire-power and maneuverability I'd say that AC is following the classic P2W model too. I think there is a point where, regardless of what all the fans and RSI say you do have to look at the cards on the table and say: er no..regardless of where you say you are going, what you have there right now in front of me looks like the other play to win games out there.

I wonder how many upgraded their pledge to get a new cockpit to look at yesterday?

You gotta hand it to them, though, their marketing worked...

No question, sometimes I feel like RSI are the cool little kids drawing pretty pictures of rockets with their collective tongues hanging out and everyone is standing behind them going "ooooh", while Frontier are a bunch of old guys smoking pipes quietly working in a shed on something with lots of wires in it.

The Aurora lacks currently because of the reason that is has just cheap starterequipment. Addionally what cargo space does a hornet have? Does the hornet have a bed (for save logout)? No! That are some Aurora advantages. Addional it is very cheap to obtain, modify and replace. Sure, this dont help the ship in AC, but thats just one little part of the game...

SC is way too arcade. true story.

I bet you are the first that kisses an astroid with safe mod off and free-rotate mode :D

Downloading Star Citizen update now. Is it going to reflect which game better? No. They both have pro and cons.

Yeah but the point I was making is that the "game" you are talking about isn't Arena Commander. I don't think a bed or cargo space is useful in an Arena Shooter. I wasn't suggesting SC itself was Pay to Win, but RSI have branded Arena Commander as a separate game you can participate in now until the final game is out (which might be years) with it's own logo, leader-boards, marketing videos. So I have to fly my space Winnebago up against top gun fighter craft? How is that not structured to encourage people to upgrade?

As i heard, the matchmaking system will search oppnents that fits to you. Maybe there will be "just" Aurora Leagues too. Addionally you can earn ingame credits wich can be used for upgrade too. So i see no problem with that.

This is an intresting thread. Iam in the same situation. Today i pre ordered Elite, but just the game not Beta access. Just 40€ i spended.

I also backed Star Citizen, but SC i backed with Alpha and Beta Access and a much higher ammount of money.

I have:

1x Aurora Game Package
1x i325a Game Package
1x Colonel Package
1x Retaliator Package
1x Gladiator Package
1x Hornet Package and dont forget my M50 Package :D

I belive i spendet around 500~600€ for that.

Iam a big Space fan and thats the reason i like space games like this an SC. Dont know why i spended so much for SC and so less for Elite. Maybe because of the Bonus items :D

the 150€ Package ist just Beta Access. No ship? no ingame Credits? No Collector Edtion Box?

I think that is my problem why i dont buy the beta and i think it is a little bit to expensive, iam missing the bonus stuff i could get

Hi,
if you had pledged to the premium beta level during the kickstarter, you would have got a whole load of stuff, including a choice of starter ships (sidewinder, eagle or cobra) and locations, extra credits and a premium box set. But then, there was much more uncertainty over how ED would turn out.

See you in gamma :)

Sadly i heard too late for this game :((( Sounds very cool stuff tough!

I was under the impression there were no credits in AC, so if I can indeed upgrade my ship by playing the game then I will retract my opinion. Currently however I can't.

Additonally, later if the game is out i "HEARD" that the ship packages will be completly removed. Iam not 100% sure on this, but i heard it a few times. Later you will be just able to buy credits, but with limitations (I belive the limit was 20,000 UEC credits a day and a total max of 100,000 UEC credits).

So people with less time to play can speed up things a little bit with that but cannot buy big ships.

But again, iam not 100% on this and things might change  But i think this way is fair.

UPDATE: I asked the support, my informations about this is 90% correct, the only thing iam wrong is that you can have 150k instead of 100k. But again, after the pledge phase NO SHIP IS PURCHASEABLE IN THE SHOP!
