Newcomer / Intro Help i'm new

Hello, I'm new to the forums and would like to post in the thrustmaster t16000m official thread.

I'm told that I have to post in here first though..... :)

:)

Hehe, welcome, then.
I hope now you can post where you want. :)

(btw. please try to avoid changing the default colour of your text. Some of us use the dark themes and black font is readable only if I highlight it by selecting it, while the default switches itself between black and white, depending on the theme you use. Thanks. ;))

Yep, thats the bot protection. Bit of a pain for new members but it helps the moderators keep bots down to virtually 0.

Welcome to the forums!

First, let me welcome you to the Elite: Dangerous Galaxy. My rule 2 is; Have Fun (it is just a game, but WHAT a GAME!).

The learning curve is so steep that the mountain goats go around in teams, roped together (and even then they may fall off, but that means the Vultures get to eat!). However, when you master something, and do it well, the buzz is worth the effort.

Now, Rule 1, which is; Never Fly if you cannot cover the REBUY. REBUY is the insurance excess on your ship, and is 5% of the value of your ship (including all upgrades, but not the cargo). If you get killed, and you can cover the REBUY, you will get a replacement ship identical to the one you lost. However, if you cannot cover the REBUY you may well end up back in a basic Sidewinder. Please do not let this happen to you, as the forum is littered with tales of woe when other Players have ignored Rule 1, and then got killed. This links to the latest I have seen;

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showth...a-year-of-work

When you decide to buy a new ship, try to have 200% of the purchase price first. That way you have enough for the ship, some basic outfitting, a couple of loads of cargo, and a couple of REBUYs (just in case). If you are trading in a ship, take it back to factory spec first. When you sell any ship you will always take a 10% hit on the value of the ship at the time of selling. However, if you take it back to factory spec first you get back the full amount that you paid for the upgrades (at this time, at least). Then, when you sell the ship, your losses will be reduced. For example, I have an A Rated Cobra MkIII worth 10Mcr. If I were to sell her now I would take a loss of 1Mcr. However, if I take her back to factory spec and then sell her my loss will be about 35Kcr.

Have fun, fly safely, and see you out amongst the stars. Feel free to ask any questions, we all had to learn somewhere, and those that care will answer all they can.

New meat . . . er . . . pilot? Great! First, forget all the stuff about "It's too hard". It isn't. A couple of bits of advice:

Upgrade to the highest "A" grade Frame Shift Drive (FSD) module FIRST! Then you get some flexibility, depending on what you want to do in the game but in the beginning increasing FSD jump range is KEY! Especially for the Sidewinder and its short legs.
If trading, remove all the guns (yes!) since you will always, always, ALWAYS run away from a fight (if trading/hauling). You don't fight when you are trading, save that for the HAZRES and your new A-rated combat-Vulture.
Per the above advice about removing weapons, fit a decent shield generator, then fit as many of the largest cargo holds you can. Keep in mind the ones that came with your ship are probably half the maximum capacity cargo hold able to fit that slot. Change them out for the bigger cargo holds.
Next ship upgrades (arguments) will probably be Power Distributor (faster boost recharge and shields/weapons recharge) and thrusters (to go faster). If you are doing it right, guns are about the LAST things you need.
DO NOT BUY ANOTHER SHIP until you need to and not until you can afford to purchase the basic ship, outfit it completely (!) and keep at least 1 insurance rebuy (preferably 2) worth of credits in reserve.
DO NOT UPGRADE YOUR SHIP just because you have some credits. Wait until you actually NEED that upgrade, to improve cargo capacity, FSD range, etc. In the beginning it is difficult enough to earn credit without spending it piecemeal as you go.

I am looking at the t1600m online and the first thing I notice, when compared to my X-56 is that you have no mini joysticks. I was using a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro and decided to get the X-56 specifically for the mini-joysticks. They allow for great control of maneuvering thrust. Any HOTAS setup is going to feel great compared to flying with mouse and keyboard.

Thanks guys, the reason that the text was the wrong colour is because I had copied and pasted from another page which seemed to have a different base font colour etc.

I'm actually a seasoned veteran of the game and have just gained access to the Founders World :) I've just never needed to post on the forums before :)

Actually it still won't let me post in the Official T16000m Thread :(

Top right corner of the page - settings - then "Edit Avatar" - lots of things to muck about with - on the left hand side of the settings screen

Is it in the Off-topic section? That would be bad as you need to firs gain not only post count but also some reputation. (here, have some, just in case)
As for the avatar, that will also come in time. Brand new accounts are limited a bit.

There was an influx of new trolling accounts inciting flamewars in teh off-topic section of the forums a few days ago. You need to be a seasoned forum veteran to post there now. :)
