The Star Citizen Thread v5

I can't buy paintschemes, skins or decals of events I didn't actually participate in with other games - and I sure as hell wouldn't either because being involved in something is the whole aspect of where trophies come from.

Not these days - you can't even install a console game without unlocking some reward. People now get trophies for remembering their own name, not having a runny nose, or simply managing to keep breathing.

I can't wait to see SC's Acheevmints list :)

Is there an actual itinerary for CitizenCon? Other than "hanging out and drinking with devs." Three days seems like a lot of time to go over what's currently in the project and what's to come in the near future.

Join us on Sunday, October 9th as we celebrate the fourth anniversary of Star Citizen’s crowdfunding campaign

That's really a perverse thing to celebrate in the circumstances. How about delivering a game, and then having the celebration. Maybe then they can even comp the food and drink with the surplus crowd-funding cash, for the backers who have also paid to attend (and paid for parking, and paid for the coat check, and bought trophies).

Its part of the game. Notice how Orlando here keeps celebrating every new million dollars being donated as an achievement in itself. You're part of a succes! Look at all that money!

And there's a probability that without seemingly unlimited funding SC would be in a better state than it is right now.

Lowtax is a real method actor, or is this one real?
Looks real - go check out the rest of the guy's videos - he's a proper ultra-fan

I wonder if that's the general thing there - a belief that Elite players are purposefully out to get them - or is it just the fringes?

Well, if somebody can be convinced that shelling out thousands of units of currency for jpegs of concept ships in a space pixel game that hasn't been made yet is a good idea, it's equally possible that somebody can be convinced that there is a worldwide super-team of Elite fans who have absolutely nothing better to do than make them miserable at every available (or carefully orchestrated) opportunity, for the lulz, and for free.

Buy a Polaris!

I think thats not exclusive to SC: if something you care for gets a lot of criticism, its tempting to presume there is no real problem and everyone attacking it is just evil.

Of course the real big celebration will be for the Bi-Centennial

That's true enough, but the very pointed angle of "oh yes when they criticise SC you'll see just go look through their stuff and there it is! an elite video - clearly so deranged with annoyance at how awful it is that they have to take it out on SC as a distraction" etc - it's really pointed, it's not 'everyone's out to get us' it's very much sounding like 'those people are out to get us'

That's what twists my noodle here

Well finally got the rest of my money back from CIG. A year ago I was one of the first to get a stock refund refusal letter, but thanks to people contacting government agencies and basically forcing CIG to give refunds I was also able to finally get a refund. Then it was just fighting them for the past few months about gifts that I had sent between the two accounts I owned. They wanted to keep that money, I said they could not.

Man it is a lot nicer to watch a train wreck when you are not a passenger.
Feels good, right?

It got out last year (early enough, no refusal letter) not so much for the money, but mainly for distancing myself from this cultish backer community. I fear they will go after each other (like intimidating people for not giving anything since October 2012) when this fails and I don't want to be part of that.

Interview with Chris Roberts http://gearpatrol.com/2016/10/06/interview-chris-roberts-star-citizen-creator/

"Normally you’d go to a star system and maybe there would be one or two locations you could land on, you buy or sell stuff, and then you’d go to another location. With Star Citizen just one star system should have enough content and enough things to do for players to play for hundreds, even thousands of hours. The density of experience is going to be much higher than what you’ve seen in other space games, including my own."

I think this could be laying the groundwork for a massive reduction in star system numbers (an MVP bonsai galaxy).

They started laying the foundations for this in some of the interviews in Germany - talking about the hundreds of hours of gameplay in Stanton and how that would be pretty much a full game in itself.

They're totally going to just launch with Stanton.

So much for stretch goals and exploration.

This looks like it's going to be just like Strike Commander all over again: A visually impressive game that falls well short of the lofty ambitions and planned/claimed features.

In theory you could indeed have dozens of detailed locations on a single planet, giving you plenty of activities. Of course this is not enough for an online game with thousands of players going about it.

Not that I deny it is interesting and healthy approach - I would like to see ED to have more missions, things happening within system, like small transportation missions - this sounds like backtracking indeed. I don't say it's bad - it's ok, they have to start somewhere - but this will clash with some of most loudest backers.
