Panther Clipper Captains!

I hark back to the long nights i've spent mining some obscure planet in my huge Panther Clipper and then blasting away the pirates that try and stop me jumping out of the system to make a healthy profit.

Any other Panther Clipper captiains out there looking forward to making huge profits in Elite again?

Yeah, that was me. Had enough shield generators that I just let them bounce of my hull. An utter OP tank. But boy was it fun! Leaving a famined wasteland behind you and shortly to become obese population on the next rock you visit. :)

Panther Clippers were my favourite target! With a 5MW pulse laser to boot!;)

Yeah, once you got a big enough ship, pirates became about as dangerous as ladybirds. Hopefully in Elite D, they'll always pose a challenge regardless of the ship you have. :)

Had great fun with my Panther Clipper in Amiga Frontier - complete with Large Plasma Accelerator and 200 shield generators - you are basically invincible with that combination, bar crashing into a planet or space station :)

Wasn't the clipper too large for some orbitals? I remember nonchalantly tearing chunks off the outside of stations (at least vapourising a ton of shields and some hull) now and then.

Forgive me Lord for I have sinned. I was never that bothered with the Panther but back in the day there was a Panther Owners' Group which traded saved games via post on floppy disk. The only qualification: own a Panther! I wanted in. So I spent an evening relieving the Cemiessians of their hated gem stones until I had enough credits to buy one. Despite, without a doubt, having the most uninteresting save in the group I did get a disk full of interesting saves in return.

I had a Panther Clipper too, Regulation number was PM465

Id like to have the same id but I guess that is random...

had the Panther Clipper, did the old 200+ Shields, found the 20MW Beam did enough damage to not worry about the accelerators. I found you can just bounce off stations with that many shields. Eventually traded it out for the Boa Freighter, may have been smaller 1600t v 2000t but it had a fuel scoop. Fitted it with 10 Shields and 20MW Beans in the turrets 1MW Beams in the front and rear port just so I had the crosshairs on those views. Learned how much fun it was trying to scoop in Frontier, heck of a lot harder than Elite was, and with shields if you approached the loot any faster than a crawl it would react on the shields and be destroyed.

The Millenium Falcon made me laugh, with my good old pather clipper.

I loved the way I had to shuv it into the landing bays like a drawer. Allways getting damage.
Playing baseball in my immense cargo bays...

Hmm good old days

Finally a Panther clipper fan thread :)

Always been my favourite ship, really want it in the game as well.

150 shields is enough, 600 tons is necessary for lucrative cargo needed in Facece... :)

Loved the Clipper, but as others have said it did make it a bit too easy afterwards. When you got that you know the Cr were going to roll in. :)

Well from what David was saying about shields and the game play footage of the vipers attacking the 'convoy' of Anacondas (you got a great preview of scale in that video) a panther clipper will be great for 'safe' space but probably very risky elsewhere.
