So, you are a Warthog user.
I am very interested.
Many joystick users say they would really miss the twist axis on a joystick.
How is that for you?
I also would like to know what your experience with the Warthog is in general.
Anything you would have liked differently?
It is an absolutely incredible stick and throttle... You really can't compare it to anything else on the market. Everything else feels like a toy compared to the warthog... and I've tried most of Saitek's range.
The stick is weighty and incredibly accurate, the buttons require actual force to press. Actually my first week using it my arm and fingers felt really tired at times. But once you get used to it allows real precision. And the buttons feel very reactive. Hmm, its really hard to describe how a stick feels... lol
That said, in flight sims, the lack of twist on the throttle can be a real pain (and is why most warthog users invest in rudder pedals for the most authentic experience) I don't have space for pedals and have found the lack of analogue yaw fairly annoying in my favorite games (rise of flight is my #1). I have occasionally wondered if I should have got a twist yaw stick... It is not an insignificant drawback of the Warthog and its the one (and only) place where I would advise caution before buying one.
I can't say that I would want them to add twist yaw to the Warthog though. That would destroy the purpose of this stick which is to provide THE most realistic flight stick. I honestly can't say there is anything I would change about the stick... I'm really trying to think of what could be improved... ah I got one. The LEDs on the throttle can be dimmed but imo not enough so I mostly turn them off. Also I nearly never split the throttle and the link between the two throttles doesn't feel as indestructible as the rest of the setup, it can flex slightly at times.
Most people spending this much money on a stick are heavily invested in an authentic experience and would probably go all the way and get pedals too. I'm moving house soon and will have space for pedals in my new mancave, so am definitely going to pick some up.
But funnily enough Elite is a different kettle of fish. The rate of yaw is so low (this is a great piece of design imo) that I find a digital yaw input is absolutely fine for this game. I still want those pedals for other games, and will obviously use them in Elite when I have them. But I been very happy with the stick only performance in Elite.
Also, I should mention that the the rebinding software (T.A.R.G.E.T) is really amazing and lets you achieve nearly any control scheme regardless of in game settings. I have mine set up so that the toggle switches on the joystick base toggle my landing gear, cargo scoop, and lights. It's really satisfying to fly into the station and flip the switch down to lower my gear.
So in summary. The warthog is crazy expensive. But I never regretted my purchase. The lack of twist is a serious concern if you are not planning on getting pedals (but less of an issue in Elite specifically). And the shear number of controls that are available on the HOTAS is just mind-boggling I've bound literally every control in Elite to the stick and still have a bunch of unused switches. I have also pre-ordered a rift DK2 and see this being a real boon having everything under tactile touch on the HOTAS as I wouldn't not be able to look at the keyboard while wearing it obviously.
Hope this has helped you out!
