Alien archeology and other mysteries: Thread 9 - The Canonn

Cannot remember any of the new planets in Sol looking like that in the beta - Still I guess it's worth checking out if the planets/moons/objects look like the trailer and how big the planets/moons/objects look from eachothers surface compared to the trailer.

Okay so I'm thinking we can rule out Exphiay. The rings seem way too big on this dwarf, the parent star seems too far away, galaxy is 180 degrees the other way and not in the background like in the image from the trailer, the stars behind it look different too.

also peeps whilst i was at alien crash site my belugas power went down as i goy near...and had to disable modules to steady her and land....
also had some gui gliches like when you do a reboot but more subtle.

Been there for some time this morning trying to get it react to a UP. Haven't experienced any of what you reported, any chance you got caught in a UP blast? Or some power*management issues? Screeny or vid available would help - as always (shadowplay maybe)?

Also, i'm usually lurking in the background trying to work out some clues giving/being discussed here and then go off searching. Right now i'm a bit confused - the start to the '2.2 search' is based on trailer videos, patch notes and things learned from forum comments? I'm not sure this approach is too different from checking game files - don't get me wrong, not telling anyone how to go about this, i'm just trying to figure out if I spoil myself too much by reading through this thread - if the search is based on things 'meta'. Are there any known ingame clues?

Just catching up with the thread. Am I right in thinking that two areas of focus for investigation at the moment are Merope and Sol?

Yes you are right.
Generally, when you see too much traffic on the thread, it's good habit to take a look at the front page, where you'll always find what's hot at the moment. ;)

I think it is reasonable to rule out any inhabited systems.. I fail to believe that nobody noticed alien architecture over all those years, especially Sol.

no i posted pics of a smiling green man that hasent taken much attention though lol,i was flying normally until i got near it then all of a sudden modules powered down fellas....perhaps it wasnt
anything alien like but thought best i mention it.

@rizal do the pics i posted of the crash site carvings mean anything to you?

Figured Id throw in my theory at the moment. We need more anyway. Id guess that we can find the ruins one of two ways.

1.) Merope
2.) passenger missions

Merope is obvious why. So let me just move on to the other and why I think it may be more likely. The passenger missions have explorers wanting us to take them all over the galaxy. Literally. Ive seen some missions out 21k ly and up. Some of them seem to want to go to planetary features also.

Why do I think these might lead us to ruins? Because Fdev wants us to play their game. This is the new thing. It would make sense to lead us to something using it. It also pays well to entice us to do it. If rumours were correct, then the tip offs were supposed to lead us to the wreck just by playing the game. And the tip offs were added in 2.1. By that logic, they are trying to give us what so many people scream for - in game means of finding things by just playing.

So maybe we take these explorers out to some faraway place to look at something they want and find ruins nearby. It would make perfect sense to me. At worst, we get to enjoy the new features and play the game. :)

ALRIGHT LADS! im new to all this! heading to the moon now! anyone want to team up and help comb the planet? i should be there in minutes

Sorry but I do not agree.

- It's always been like that: the trailer has alway been in-game content/part of the gamer itself.
- we are focusing on the Pleiades/Merope, exactly where we should based on what we discovered in game.
- we are focusing on Sol as new bodies/planets where added, so it is reasonable to check them, even if they do not hide anything new.

In-Game clues will follow as usual under the form of Galnet articles, local news, treasure hunts or whatever, soon I imagine :D

On the contrary, we do not like peeking into game files.... for now at least :D :D :D

Not talking of such things, but I remember on the release celebration livestream there was talk of how they are being much more careful with resource names now... So you *should* have far fewer clues in future from dredging.

I like it. This is good thinking. No more rep for you unfortunately.

Thrown in mine for you! And yeah, I like the passenger theory too!

ok...but also the aliens ship is not exactly of a high res though is it?.

why are they there....have you all seen this before then guys?

It has all been discussed here - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...cles-and-other-mysteries-Thread-8-The-Canonn/ :)
The texture thing has been brought up several times. It's considered irrelevant.

It's low quality textures. If this was to be an important part of the alien story it wouldn't be of 486DX quality.[/QUOTE

I remember someone else noticing something similar: in general, the wreck was extensively inspected.
I'm not excluding anything, but even if there is the drawing of a little green man on it, that does not help us in our search.
