Alien archeology and other mysteries: Thread 9 - The Canonn

Just going to point something out that caught my eye.

In the original trailer image we can see both the ruins and the highlighted features on the moon.

However as it stands right now, those features are visible with the planet behind the moon.

And here's the real clincher. That yellow moon is tidally locked to the main planet. So there's no conceivable way that it would ever be able to even face the planet.

Yeah. I asked about this earlier. If thats the case then this isnt the exact planet from the trailer. Its just a copy in the procgen.

Maybe the whole planet's full of them, and they're just not showing up like with the barnacles. I'm getting a lot of this:

Got us a couple of new members :D

I hope you've given Herbert there the nickname Henry. :)

I was flicking through the crew lounge last night and saw one called Harry Beard who had a 'tash but no beard. I almost hired him because he reminded me of Frank Beard from ZZ Top. He was Harmless though so I said no.

I really like the little back stories they've given the crew. I've seen mentions of the Achenar Challenge, Buckyball A*, several combat contests and a number of CGs that I was part of myself.

Judging by the position of the brown dwarf I'm pretty close, but it's bedtime now.
My money is on somebody finding somingthing the next couple of hours.

Good luck!

Everybody please do not forget that the Ruins will hardly be in a POI. I suspect, like any other "fixed" location, like the Barnacles, it will not be in a POI. We will have to spot them by eye, as usual... So be patient...
Fly low and fly fast.

Ok I tried to get to the same position as in the trailer by lining up the main stars in the background. (see markings)
Even the moon (planet whatever) is moving in from the left at the right angle and direction. (I didn't want to wait another half an hour for it to be in the exact position)
The sunlight from the right also matches.

I should (!) be NEAR it.

But as one pprevious CMDR already mentioned, the moons surface doesn't match at all from this perspective.
I really hope this shot wasn't staged just for the looks of it.

see for yourself, maybe I'm wrong.
Coordinates provded in the screenie, maybe it helps narrowing down the search area :)

or the tidal lock is not working as intended...
cause the distance to the moon is about right, chances are low it's not the right one.

Don't think so - see the ringed brown dwarf in the background of the second image you quoted? It's visible from 1 B as well.

That shouldn't work, because regardless of the tidal lock of the moon, the planet would still be rotating.

Guys,
the tidal lock of the moon seems to be off,
the planet itself is rotating,
the planet is orbiting the brown dwarf with a 6.9 day period,
the brown dwarf is orbiting the main star.

tl;dr:
The stars will not help you finding any location on the planet, neither will the brown dwarf or even the moon.
we would have to take their axial tilts into account, find out, how long ago exactly the video was taken and rewind everything into that position.
Ergo, it will probably be easier to just keep searching the surface, at some point somebody will get lucky.

Cheers,

And yeah driving round on that level of G is down right horrific! I had a quick go last night........keep and eye on that wave scanner for anything odd. You will also note the wave scanner has been "adjusted" so every chance they have added a new sound that could be for something unusual.

Don't try to drive the SRV in gravity that low, fly it! Four pips to engines, aim for any rise in the terrain at full speed whenever actually on the ground and boost like crazy.

There were some people searching the new Sol bodies on Discord last night, definitely a good idea.

Great post Greytest!

If anyone finds a wreck of a Cobra, that was me. I crashed.

Oh dear... Well to make you feel a little bit better...My back really hurts after all this time sitting trying to find those squares in a game! :p

Going to rest and tomorrow will resume the search.

PS: Good by Frontier to add things like this to the game, and also those new textures in the planets are awesome. Top notch work.

In a procgen galaxy of 400 billion stars with only so many variables.. How likely do you think it is that you will find a brown planet with a brown moon orbiting a brown dwarf? Fairly high actually.

Im not saying dont search. But the science says you guys have the wrong planet.
