Here at the site with some other commanders. It's not just a pillar. It's an entire site of some sort. There are storable ancient commodities --- so far I've seen relic and tablet varieties. Have also seen glowing, scanable sections of ruins that impart obelisk data to your data storage, as xdeath is posting.

One of the areas on top has a glowing pillar with three hexagonal symbols and a sound coming from it. The patterns of the symbols are changing over time. We need to capture the sound and the video for analysis.

Scanning the Ancient Relic tower seems to active a random obelisks.

Scanning the Active Obelisk yields engineer data in various patterns.

Congratulations everyone at the archeo-site, I'll be there in the morning.
I've had an evening of studying the wreck site, all under the nose of the Majestic Class Capital.
A couple of things I've found: the central portion of the wreck is upside down and I think I've worked out how the pieces slot together.
How do the materials of the ship compare to the obelisk/ recovered artifacts?
