Something needs to be done about ranking with superpowers

So how long should a naval career officer take to reach Admiral... Or King.

Just read that, let it sink in, think about the meaning of those words.

You want to become a king or Admiral in 2 months.

I think we are lucky it's this easy! You would be moaning if it took 5 Years to reach that rank. Given the game has a ten year plan, it wouldn't be out of the question.

My suggestion

Naval rank progression missions offered only after the anniversary of game purchase

Use a complex algorithm to analyse your statistics over the previous year

If progress, conduct, loyalty and mission success rate has been of an adequate level, promotion will be granted.

If it's bad, lots of murders and general banditry. You get dishonourablely discharged, never able to re-enlist.

It would work if fdev removed the rank restriction for the ships, because no one would care able the ranks.

I am not sure about rich these days - myself not seeing data missions over 30k now, cargo missions are worth much less than they were.

I wouldn't suggest Data Transport as a get-rich/rank scheme. They tend to be a little less local than the alternatives. I start with Data Salvage/Recovery to build local rep, then on to the >1Mill cr Skimmer Massacres.

On the subject of rank building, does anyone know that know they have nerfed the data and cargo ranking missions in terms of value - do said missions
have the same effect on the rank they earn. Or is this driven by value - or indeed rank/class level of the mission ?

Mission reward values don't play into rank, just the number of missions completed.

Totally agree with this, but pointing out that you can currently easily get to King/Admiral with a week or 2 of dedicated effort. Some good points have been made about the ways in which rank is achieved, but the 'takes too long' argument is a non-starter.

Rank-locks mean you need to learn the game's mechanics in order to get the full benefits of the available content. How this is seen as controversial, or grindy I'll never understand.

I've been playing this game since before the official launch and haven't really bothered with ranking because of how mind-numbingly grindy the whole thing is.
The level of repeated mission grinding required is excessive and the insanely slow progress when not going to specific spots where mission board scumming is possible is unrewarding to say the least.
Like with certain other elements, this is not gameplay: this is just tedium.

No. Ranking is fine. I agree that the *way* you rank, without combat bonds applying is daft, but the amount of time it takes is OK. If anything it should take longer.

4 hours a day should be more than enough to do one in a couple of weeks, I would guess.

Holy... 4 hours per day for a couple of weeks seems alright for you? That's why we can't have nice things!

Learning mechanics as in "find missions, take missions, mode switch, take more missions, do missions, repeat". Well...

I'll never understand people on theses forums :(

If you want to take the fastest route, it is like that. It's like that in other games with a larger scale, too.

.

Ok, thanks - if values make no difference I presume the rank level of the mission does make a difference to the effect on your rank. I presume there is some sort of multiplier ?

I championed a military ranking revamp for quite awhile and then they said it was being revamped with Horizons. And in a way it was since the entire mission system was overhauled. But the basic core of how it operated remained the same.

Don't want to get my hopes up for this new revamp so I'm not disappointed again.

Wars, CGs and PP are so detached from Naval ranking, it's not even funny. That shouldn't be the case.

This.... Wars, CG's and PP should definitely increase rank, especially now that mission rewards are down and there's less of them it seems.

I have bought this topic up many times and what I have concluded is FDev want it to take a loong time, they don't want you to rank up faster. I agree the current system doesn't make sense all I can think of is FDev want to make use of the navy ranks more at a later date, they see many players progressing faster than they expected and they are putting the brakes on.

Without FDev explaining their thinking on this the topic is going nowhere... just like last month or the month before that etc etc.

700 hours to Baron and Ensign, without really trying.

Spent the weekend before the patch concentrating on Empire, Duke in about 20 hours gameplay. Baron to Duke in 20 hours.

Nah it doesn't need tweaking. Certainly not in comparison to the hideous delivery mission rewards in 2.2.

Hmm, yea. I never payd attention to it, as i have all the ranks i want. But taking a look, i realize that my rank progress has not moved much any more since a while. So it seems while i (just like many other veterans) profit from the easier and faster progression of older times, things probably are too hard and punishing for newer Players and some adjustments would make sense.

I agree 100 percent. Granted, I got my Cutter now so I don't nor won't care again until there's another ship to get past the rank of Duke (Duchess... Frontier... change that for us women please)
