Alien archeology and other mysteries: Thread 9 - The Canonn

Have to admit that my first thought was that the site was probably the alien equivalent of one of our (human) planet-side settlements. There are buried landing pads, control and storage structures. The layout might have no special significance outside of alien aesthetics.

The big questions are: who built this stuff, and more importantly, why did they seemingly abandon it all?

And why build anything on that useless lump of rock?

- It has very low gravity, which is good if you want to shoot stuff into space.
- It has a very close companion, which is good if you run some sort of tidal powered machine.

That's all I have. Not much.

I have been checking every metallic object I can find for a Lakon logo!

ill step away with my branching point of view for now that the thargoids are to be found in the outer 1/5 of the outer donut of the whole galaxy, call it the outer rim regions right the way round. Ive created a thread on the exploration forum for anyone that wants to chime in.

I know that sometimes the cannon can get a little defensive about their own ideas so ill take it outside of the main thread for a while to get some like minded minds on it to see if it can be taken anywhere and ill continue to watch this thread in the hope im proven wrong, grabbing my anaconda and heading for deep space might even start a outer rim circumnaviation just as its something im yte to do and i can put my theories to the test, and getting to the outer 20% of the galaxy from jaques is actually only about 8k LY rather than the 30k to get to some of the core region locations

I usually expect you guys to find things quickly, it's when you don't that I start to worry :) Besides this is just the first step...

Michael

I am so glad about this.

I had visions of Frontier having a chain of clues to be discovered, and the whole thing being blown apart with a shortcut right to the end.

I am glad this is just the first step. (Assuming you mean within 2.2)

Btw has anybody had a closer look at the "totem" artifact? I didn't find one myself yet, but obviously it depicts an alien figure of some kind. What strikes me is that all the various description texts seem to carefully say ancient all over the place, but this is an exception, and AFAIK the only one. Could be the site is from some ancient civilization (human or not) worshipping an alien race of some kind (the Guardians?)

I am at work and cannot play - i suggested 2 times to do exactly this - got no reply. Shooting the pillars is possible with ship laser without disturbing the relics (what happens if you shoot them with cannons or the SRV). It keeps in place. What happens if someone does this for 4 obelisks? I am quite sure this is necesarry to activate the obelisks.

After this we have to see. Maybe something happens instantaneously? Laser beams between the relics? Or something changes in the patterns? Or you have to active an obelisk by SRV? Only one of them? All 4? Special order? Have to place something somewhere?

I registered that the base of the obelisks is covered with darker stone that can be shot away. Maybe this is necessary too (e.g. to enable the obelisks to spin?).

Many things to try - and i have to work and cannot play...

Please commanders - try this way and give feedback. It really should have a reason why the pillars are distinct objects.

Maybe after exposing the relics something can be done at the triangles?

Ciao, Udo

You can target the pillars and shoot them away with the SRV's weapons too. (You can do it without targeting, but it's easy to hit the relic and knock it off). I guess it's worth seeing if anything happens if all 4 are 'freed'.

It didn't occur to me to clear the rocks around the base. They might be meaningful or might just be cosmetic.

so while you guys were busy mapping out every last dust-particle at the ruins i might have pinpointed the location of something we could not have found yet in 2.1
(i'm talking about the Gamescom message location where we see the dead white cobra)
if anyone's interested in the possibility of where it is:

I'm currently looking for the same thing. I even have my monitor wrapped in shrink wrap with little circles drawn on around where stars are in the first shot. I can't say this technique is proving particularly successful though :D I did start in Maia, but I don't think it's quite right...either way, to get that much blue from the nebula you're down to a small number of systems...even smaller when you need a blue-ish star.

Pretty sure I've found your system a couple over.

Skybox is pretty much an exact match in Asterope, which even has the big blue star

Asterope does look like the best match. I'm there now, there's just something a tiny tiny bit off about the sky box... Angles of the stars, very slightly out, but there aren't any blue stars in a better position. I tried HIP 17692, but that's too far away, I tried Celaeno, but I'm pretty sure that Celaeno, Merope and Maia are the three stars in a triangle amidst the wreckage in the teaser still. It has to be Asterope.

Maybe it wasn't useless when the place was built. Might explain why is was abandoned: they stripped it of all worth and moved on. The stuff left behind was more bother than it was worth to clean up.

Or they were idiots. Could also explain why they're not around anymore. We always assume aliens are somehow smarter and more advanced than us. ;)

....I am pretty sure its the MISSING (ancient human Generation ships that that aprox 70000 of them launched from earth like 1k years ago) traveling sub light speeds , someone do the math to see how far outside the bubble they would reach in this time...

The maths is actually quite easy - if they're travelling at sub-light speeds then the fastest they could be going would be just under lightspeed. Call it lightspeed for simplicity.

So, in 1000 years, the furthest they could have gone would be 1000 light years from Sol.

In reality, they're probably only travelling at a fraction of light speed. So they'd only have gone a fraction of that distance (speed of 0.1c would give a distance of 100ly).

So most of them would be in interstellar space within the bubble - unreachable until they get near a star.

Have FDev said they were all sub-light ? Or did some have primitive FTL drives ?

Alright guys, so I found the Elite Meet system prior to the release of 2.2, and had grand designs of finding the site when 2.2 dropped...but after days of searching with no luck, I think it's about time to bring in some more CMDRs and keep the science moving.

Tl;dr...here's the system you want to be in: COL 173 Sector KY-Q D5-47

I am 100% sure this is the right system.

I'm going there to have a look

look wider

- relatively close to the potential enemy, but the chain of dwarfs makes the region unattractive to Homo sapiens
