Yes. You have it wrong. Everyone could participate. Everyone could join the Games
Every group was able to be a participant in the dangerous games and thus be selected to become the first player power? Really? You sure about that?

FD's favouritism can be bought!

Every group could register for the Popular Vote participation of the Wildcard finalist position.
The normal finalists were also chosen based on BGS prominence, not favouritism.
This also applies to FDs customer service. They can restore ANYTHING they want to when you lose in game items when the ship is destroyed due to a known bug, but they only restore ALL items for some players not all. Whats up with that?
I just realised I'm arguing against me being an FD favourite.
FD likes me! FD really, really likes me!
Why should I be the exception that proves the rule and not other CMDRs? That's not fair to other CMDRs!Nah, you're the exception that proves the rule Ziggy.

Yeah, I know. It's the exact reason I am FD's favourite. They're odd, they like that sort of thingI know Ziggy, but see, you are a fringe case on the fringe of fringe cases, there is that line in the sand and you are waist deep in water, you are so far out of the ballpark that you cease to be a sport...I could go on![]()
On the subject of favouritism and special treatment, how long are 'Founder/backer' players going to keep on being rewarded above everyone else?
People who have just as much interest in the game now and contrubute just as much if not more, are receiving less content than those who signed up first. Had I even known this game existed earlier, I probably would have backed it. But I didn't even know it was in production until after it's general release.
They can't keep doing it forever surely? Especially once the game is 'complete' new players are going to be be pretty annoyed if they get less content that people who signed up several years ago and may not even be playing anymore!
Personally I disagree with the OP's OP.
My problem with this train of thought is that it once again blames FD for something that I think is self inflicted. If you don't wish to join a "group" (I am one of you/those folks), that is your decision. One you make knowing what the deal is.
The idea that a company should not listen to, or pay more attention to larger groups, or more vocal groups does not have any semblance in reality. A perfect example of this is the National Rifle Association here in the U.S. The NRA has less members then Planet Fitness. And yet they a one of the most powerful lobbyists in the U.S. The reason is because they are a highly motivated and highly dedicated group(don't get me wrong, I like guns). I do not think it matters if it is software developer or a firearm manufacturer, you are going to cater to the most focal, and/or biggest crowd.
Ironic really when the game doesn't natively support groups in any way, and was heavily designed with a singleplayer experience as the focus.
