Hardware & Technical Which GTX 1080?

Cheers MP4X, but how do you actually know which card you've got. I can't see it anywhere on receipt or packaging. On the card somewhere I presume?

Edit: And all the software I've tried just says Nvidia gtx 1080... :(

On the packaging is there a serial number? It'll be with that. Or on the card itself look for this serial sticker (image stolen from the net, not mine)

...It would be soooo easy for someone like Amazon to (perhaps inadvertently) sell an A8G for £750 claiming it's an 08G.

Get this. I just talked to my "dealer" and he said that Asus had such a hard time getting the cards out in the beginning that they would just send him a few of whatever they had at the time, and he actually doesn't know what he sold me...

He told me to download something from Asus called GPU Tweak? Which might be able to tell me. Otherwise I have to look for some kind of sticker/serial number on the card itself. So yeah. I guess anything goes... Good lord...

Will report back..

You didn't have something like this on the box?

Failing that, the sticker on the previous image I linked in shows you where to find the ID on the card

Good lord...

Given the potential price difference between the two that is absolutely shocking!

Cheers bud. I only got the "inner" box, not the sleeve.

Yeah, so I took of the side of the pc (GPU Tweak doesn't work in Win10... doh), and it is indeed an A8 that I've got.

I'm not about to complain though as I was buying a complete build (with a 2 year warranty), and it was a very competetive price for all the specific components I wanted (and I honestly hadn't given the 3 different iterations of gfx much thought until I read your post Alec... :) )

So to set the record straight, I have an Asus Strix GTX 1080 Gaming (A8), and I'm very pleased with it. :) I might have paid more than I should for the card, but the entire system was still a very competetive price (even with the difference in mind).

Ah well. Ignorance is bliss as we all know. :D

:D Briliant! Can't approve again yet though. :)

I will sleep a little wiser tonight. :)

Well look at it like this; I knew exactly what I was buying and bought the same card happily. :)

It's lineage is good, too. A VR mate of mine still runs a ROG/Strix 980 and it performs

Update: My dealer just linked me to the GPUTweakII found on the Asus website which works wonders and OCs the A8 with one click and has many tasty options. :)

Having a gaming rig really is no walk in the park. One is almost obliged to squeeze every frame out of it.

I think you'll find that this card will exceed your expectations.

I expect to read your impressions by the end of the week. :)

To be honest I probably won't be installing it until the weekend (assuming it arrives in time) but I should be able to report on how beautiful it is to stroke and convey an impression of the gorgeous "new electronics" odour given off by it's 7.2 billion transistors sometime before then. :p

Edit: also, I should be able to give some hard numbers vs. the 970 since I was benchmarking that card using VRMark at the weekend.

Dont know, im aiming mostly for the KFA2 Hall of fame (aka Galax) http://www.mindfactory.de/product_i...Fame-Aktiv-PCIe-3-0-x16--Retail-_1110228.html

Seems to have good cooling and performance. The only thing that holds me off is the big weight and only 2 years warrantly. Otherwise it has great reviews.

A cheaper version you can also overclock well http://www.mindfactory.de/product_i...tion-Aktiv-PCIe-3-0-x16--Retail-_1063005.html
But this has heat issues.

Im a bit dissapointed from Gigabyte G1 gaming 1080, looks like they what to push there new and expensive extreme cards. While my 980 g1 gaming from em is really great.

But i think i really will go with KFA2 HOF just need to look how i can take a little weight of my Motherboard because the pole wont do anything in my HAF XB Evo.

Looks like a nice piece of hardware coming at you, Alex!

I'm holding out for the 1080Ti. The fact that I won't get more than 2 weeks game time in the next two months is what makes this possible...
