I can't help but think of these "ships" as something more like this,

Anyone ask the question why are human satellites broadcasting clues to the locations of crashed alien ships? The plot thickens

. . . . And then sees the post above doh!!!

The Federation and Imperial Navy blanketted out the Thargoid War. INRA took it even a step further. My guess is it's a faction who's opposed to one or all three who have been hiding the truth.

Battle Krullsers.
Yeah. The ships weren't shot down, they crashed. That leads me to believe they're intentionally disposable weapons, which is why the Krull Glaive came to mind. Since they are organic, they can just grow more. The bigger question is.. what launched them.

The destroyed SRV doesn't fit here...doesn't seem to have been ejected IMHO. Came after the crash ? Who whacked him ?

One ship (type 9 maybe?) is far more damaged than the others. Perhaps it landed to investigate the site before who/whatever came to secure the site and stumbled across a helpless explorer?

This whole story line is really reminding me of Freelancer (I assume most of you played it)
Human governments and leaders being controlled secretly by aliens slowly over time, until they subversively take control of a faction and coax them into a massive war with another dominant faction. Weakening both so they can invade from their own space (i cant remember what it was called) via hypergates or something. hmmmmm

Also, this is my first post. Hi :)

Nomads, and yes that's been mentioned before iirc. Welcome to the tinfoil hat club. :)

I've started Freelancer about 70 times, and I absolutely love it. Yet somehow I have never gotten around to actually finishing the thing.

No signs of impact around the human ships. They're just sort of buried. And They're all close together. Like this was a drug deal gone wrong or something.

I've come in late....

San Tu is my home system! how the bloody hell did I miss that!?!

If its any consolation that beacon wasn't there in the beta. might mean its important in some way.
