Alien archeology and other mysteries: Thread 9 - The Canonn

OK - so the Guardians protected young homo sapiens from the baddies out there and left a map for us to find when we were all grown up and space-faring - with Sol as a reference point cos they knew we were there ?

So following along this idea, and because we love to overlay things here, I checked to see if any other interesting landmarks popped out at me.

Thanks to the wonders of OnTopReplica and the in-game galaxy map...

See the far-left corner where the walls of the ruins meet? That's the system the Unknown Probe songs point to.

It's just close enough from a top-down perspective that it might be worth looking at...

Only problem is that it's on a completely different plane.

Yes! This is so needed! I personally dont have a degree in cryptography, pattern analysis, symbology and greek mythology, therefore i am next to useless when it comes to figuring these mysteries out. My biggest issue is that something that started off as an easter egg and something very secret (therefore catered to a small niche of players) became the FDev's main vessel for pushing the storyline. Im not the type that will datamine an ancient game rom to find out that some tech left his initials in some random memory cluster. All these mysteries are for people like that. I may be dumber than most people on this thread but i still paid for my game and i believe i also deserve to be part of the game and its story. If this is how they will keep doing it, i cant contribute or be of any meaningful assistance. If i cant solve a puzzle by using only in-game mechanics and tools, its not efficient way to present story and background events to your userbase, majority of which is like me - clueless. Honestly if not for this thread, i would have given up on the game almost a year ago. Its the only thing that ties any kind of story to this universe, because there sure as hell is no story in-game. And no, random galnet posts doesnt cut it.

It is in the nature of the game that it attract some very bright minds indeed - had it be easier, then everything would be solved instantly. I think it is fantastic, and I'm very excited to see this unfold, even though I'm following it on these forums only (I'm out at the far side of the core).

going to be interesting to see what if anything you guys find in these two systems that are currently being investigated. And where it leads from there

I'm only doing a quick skim over - if anyone has any tips for better searching and scanning places of interest on planets, I'm eager to learn.

at this point interesting geographical points on the surface, barring that blunt force in numbers will find something if there, just need to get more involved

I was thinking about the recently discovered 3rd thargoid crash site... We often see convoys carrying the unknown Artefacts to unknown destination, and at the crash side were 2 ships - an Anaconda and Type 9. Both are seen in convoys, now there are normally 3 ships in said convoy aren't there? So unless I've miscounted the ships at the site, and this theory of the convoy ships being these then there is a ship that survived the encounter.

But anyway if it was one of the convoys we see, maybe they collect the UA's that are filled with data and trade them with the the thargoids. Maybe the deal went bad, and started a fight.

While I'm wild theorising here, if not to do with the convoy, what if the UA's are life pods? But a type 9 indicates trading, or carrying, and being with a conda suggests convoy. Maybe the alliance know more than they pretend to?

So Im in IC 2602 SECTOR Ps-J B9-10 on the third planet driving around in my srv when i come accross a landed System Security Force

Also You can clearly see the ruins at between 10km and 20km up, so if this is another set of ruins we are looking for you don't need to skim just over the surface to look for things.

Some other thoughts for consideration, and I am not saying any of these are good ideas:
  1. Can we get detailed surface scans of all the bodies in both systems and get images of those scans pasted into this thread? There may be some interesting details in those scans that help our investigation.
  2. Can we get the orbital images of these bodies from the system map and get those posted to? Might be some interesting features we want to prioritise.
  3. Can we get people also checking Signal Sources in the systems? Might be something in one of those.
  4. Standard checks of UA and UP activity in these systems would be useful to see if there are any changes. It might also be useful to bring a few items from the ruins and see what they do in these systems and on these planets.
  5. Checking POIs on the surface is useful, but remember many may just be randomly generated. I think most of the interesting stuff we have found on the surface such as Barnacles and Ruins have not been in there own POI.
  6. Keep a listen put while you are flying around in case there are any unusual sounds. Xdeath has said that you can hear the current ruins from about 7.5km out.
  7. This last one is unlikely, but while you are in Supercruise in one of the systems keep an eye on your Contacts. Who knows who or what else may be in the system at the same time as you.

Wow - great work Mengy, that's a lot of effort you've put in - fanatstic job.

Could the target planet and surface co-ordinates then be based on the structures? Using this

Found something.... A ruined SRV with loads of junk surrounding it... Canisters of explosives, computer components... Pictures incoming!

Looks like 2 destroyed skimmers next to it all too!

As you wish CMDR :

Sorry Mengy, not convinced.
Picking Sol as an arbitrary location just bugs me. Nothing to indicate that Sol is known to the aliens. Give me some relative distances that match distances between Merope, Wace's System and the Ruins, and I will all over it.
Within 10% ? You must be kidding. The Aliens are known to be accurate (even if a little incompetent)
Then it becomes a little TLDR (well I did read, but it didnt make enough sense to overcome my initial problems)

I'm also just flying around in IC 2602 SECTOR PS-J B9-10. If anyone has some plan to coordinate, I'm all ears.

Is that something of use? Or just a random POI? 2 crashed skimmers and a ruined SRV... It's in the IC 2602 SECTOR PS-J B9-10 location - second to last planet...

Assuming Mengy theory is correct... As the monoliths look like groups of server farms and seem to point to different features of the ruins that Mengy relates to specific systems, they could be data storages with information of those systems. Also remember that scanning them gives us data "agricultural", "thecnology", "industrial" and so son... data.

Also at what heigh can you see the POI's flash?

Sites like the ruins, barnacles and crashed alien ships don't have a POI on the scanner, you have to look for them manually. If you're running decent graphics quality and have good eyes you should spot something from 10 - 20km up.
