Alien archeology and other mysteries: Thread 9 - The Canonn

Repped you the other day Mengy. I am looking forward to joining the Search later this evening. Spent last night visiting various Engineers to enhance my newish AspX in anticipation of your findings whilst listening to the best music that John Williams composed for films ( and very stirring it was, thanks Mr Williams and all at FDev for a wonderful evening ).

I was certain at first that any coordinates or maps we might get from the puzzles would be definitely Sag A* based, but after some consideration I've concluded there's no way it would not be Sol based.
Among a few other minor reasons my greatest concerns are these
1.)Fdev would need to create an arbitrary coordinate system based around Sag A*. This is a bit meta-gamey but that's wayyyy to much work just for a puzzle.
2.)There are currently no in-game mechanics for changing your relative coordinates
3.) The distances on the map being so close is unlikely a coincidence.

if someone could scale the distances on the map to reflect relative distances to Sag A* instead, we could validate that Sol is the proper center point.

FD have already given us the Alien 0,0,0 system it is Wace's system from the UP signal.

Mengy that is incredible work. I can't rep you enough. Time to ditch the Clipper, grab the Asp (and hide from the family for a few nights) for some searching.

What should be the priority system/planets? Any suggestions?

[...]

The summary is this: I believe the large pad represents the ruin system SYNUEFE XR-H D11-102, the peak of the north pyramid above the large pad represents SOL, the small pad represents the system COL 132 SECTOR CN-Z B30-10, and the peak of the pyramid internal to the ruins likely represents system IC 2602 SECTOR PS-J B9-10.

If my theory here is convincing enough then maybe we'll get some more commanders to join the exploration and actually find something new for the puzzle! If we find nothing then I'm just a crazy explorer who needs to be slapped around a bit, lol.

man you have serious problems. I mean, really serious.... Departing now to COL 132 SECTOR CN-Z B30-10, I'm in fleetcomm group :D

I'm already at COL 132 SECTOR CN-Z B30-10. Landed on the red looking planet (2B I think). Just about killing myself getting down a huge canyon. Had to repair twice already! I hope I can get my ship recalled when I'm down there, because I ain't coming out I don't think !!

So I've had a close look at the 3rd crash site and the human ships appear to have gashes in their hulls, these gashes appear to be from the 'Alien' ship.

There is some random cargo, but also plenty of probes... Was the Alien ship trying to free the probes from the humans? Causing a battle?

Hmmm...

Absolutely great. Heading to beta right now. :)

I'll head over to the beta alpha site after work, might be fun :)

If anyone would like to wing-up, ping me in-game.

And since I also run out of reps for you, Mengy - nice one. Hope you're right about this :D

I am sure this has been noted by others before, but I'm new to the thread and there is s ton of information here I have yet to read.

Has anyone else noticed that the ancient artifact, the ones you get by shooting the spires that shoot up out of the ground at the ruins, when you jettison them they don't just fall and roll around like all other cargo does. They stand upright in a fixed position where you left them. Just thought this lended itself well to the theory that they were some kind of activation key.

Solid detective work there Mengy. Kudos. Im at the Alpha system 3rd planet. Looking around a bit.

Mengy's Alien Ruins Stellar Map Theory
Okay, so I’ve either figured out what the ruins are, or I’ve discovered a number of truly amazing and improbable coincidences of design. But, from what I have here in front of me, I do strongly believe that the alien ruins are a stellar map giving us directions for where to follow and investigate whoever made them, or possibly something else of importance.

/snip

Commander, you deserve a rep 1000 times over! This is some amazing science and discovery made there! You just gave me a reason to fix my throttle and get back in the cockpit!

I take it that someone has spotted the large amount of cratering a kilometre or two in the direction of the first (going clockwise) breach of the battlements, on the edge of the ravine? Looks like weapons fire to me...

As for the battlements themselves, compare them to 16th/17th century forts... the locations of the "wedges" look very much like the gun emplacements:

^^^ This. Indeed.

Our Alien Friends 0,0,0 should be Col 70 Sector FY-N c21-3, as we already discovered thanks to the UP.

That said, I do not think that UA/UP and Ruins are related/have the same origin.

Both Col 132 and IC 2602 have alarming similarities. Also the full names are rather similar too. Seems that eight is seen regularly... eight planets. Also both only have seven of those eights landable. Coincidence? Seems to be a LOT of that lately.

Maybe we should collect them and place them wherever the map leads us? There must be a reason, that the objects are collectible...

with this in mind, just for science sake, can we scale the ruins map to align to this? It doesn't seem like people are finding much in COL 132 SECTOR CN-Z B30-10 yet. Otherwise, maybe it's time gated or Fdev is waiting for the next server restart to load in more unregistered comm signals/UPs

Why when you're questioning whether an alien species would use our homeworld as a marker are you so happy to assume they'd use another third and unconnected species as a marker?

There's nothing whatsoever to connect these two species (ruins and the UA ones)
