How Much Longer Frontier? (Totally Broken SRV Scanner)

Yeah the audio indicator still works fine. I used it to find a bunch of arsenic the other day. Thing is I've always ignored the display and used my ears, that's easier for me. If you're a more visual person or hard of hearing you're basically screwed.

Found arsenic last night, so it's definitely there! Only thing I noticed with the scanner was that it occasionally gave a signal for something, then it would vanish. Other than that I quite like the fact it plays a little harder to get when giving readings. Was a bit predictable before, imo.

Predictable??? It's a frakking scanner, its sole purpose is to detect the presence of things.

So because I have a different opinion of playing the game I get despised? Grow up, yer great noddy.

Get a grip mate. What you posted is like me saying 'actually I quite like the fact that when I turn the wheel to the right in my car it sometimes turns left. It adds character.'

You can have an opinion about whether you like something all you want, however when the something in question has been in the game for ages and we all know how it's supposed to work, then it suddenly stops working like that, it's broken. End of.

Someone! Alert the president, close all shops in the mall, cancel the three ring circus, secure all animals in the zoo!

Ah but who will that be? Response severity could vary between the two extremes of hitting the red button or telling everyone to get stuffed...

Considering I have about 10 hours total drive time (if that) in the buggy since Horizons was released and I managed to find 20+ Arsenic along with 20+ Antimony and a host of other stuff over the course of a couple afternoon jaunts on Europa last week I think the scanner is not all that janky at the moment.

Or did it used to say "Here is your stuff!" with a little arrow pointing the way?

The display is an audio and visual one. The visual component is borked for some traces in that they variously disappear from the scanner completely, or the visual aspect disappears but the audio remains. Even where one or both remain they have a highly variable level of accuracy compared to what they used to have.

Frankly the issue isn't whether you managed to find something or not, the issue is whether the scanner is working as it should be or not and anyone with a decent amount of time using it will know full well that it isn't, based on previous experience of when it was.

I thought it was malfunctioning. Tonight the scanner was croaking away like usual but.... led me to nothing.

Mmhh, seems to be working ok for me. I went to a planet w/ 2% Arsenic amongst all the usual stuff. Found plenty of other stuff and 6 Arsenics etc.

% of finds seemed to match up roughly to description of planet from detailed scan.

SRV scanner worked as usual.

None of that is the problem that's being discussed though.

Really? Tell you what mate, download these pictures and draw an arrow on the scanner display where it shows the meteorites that are right in front of me:

Or hey how about this outcrop?

That is not 'working as usual'

It's only after reading this thread that I realized this is a bug. I used to believe it was just me doing it wrong. Maybe that's the reason why FD keeps us blind in this huge galaxy they are so proud of : they can't design working scanners :)

I heard that in the next update they'll replace a scanner, which is too predictable, with a coin toss box. You'll put in north/south/east/west and toss a coin, and then move into that direction for a few minutes until checking the box again. That'll play a little harder to get and should add amazing gameplay!

I heard you have to buy those coins in the FD Store, 6€ for 10 coins.

Hmmm, sucks to be you I guess. :D

Or we could blame it on the Commies in the system.

But in the end this event is not the case with all involved it seems. It points the way just fine for me and others too.

I'm sticking with the Commie theory! LOL

Did quite a bit of rock searching to rank up with a few engineers, scanner is definitely not working as before - sometimes it's ok, the next the signal just vanishes. Found more outcrops by eye rather than using the scanner...

It works perfectly well for me too. Sometimes. That's the bug. Seriously, there are multiple bug reports about it which have been acknowledged as far as I recall.

We have been "Patiently" waiting for the next point update that would hopefully address the serious problems with the SRV scanner, but here we are on Tuesday with NO UPDATE! [down]

I am in the process of upgrading a new ship using the Engineers and the inability to locate even common Outcrops using the broken SRV scanner is beyond irritating! The thing is so broken that I can point the SRV at an Outcrop that I managed to find by sight and the scanner display is totally BLANK!

I know that you prefer to address a bunch of issues at once before posting an update, but I feel that this SRV Scanner issue is so serious that it deserves to be treated as a separate and URGENT situation! So I really hope you guys are not withholding a fix for this so that you can release other bug fixes at the same time!

We need this thing fixed YESTERDAY!

Thank you!

Passed along the sentiment as well. If you have any bug report threads to link as well, will help further push this up the list.

We have two different teams working on two different games. Please do not assume that the both offices are working on one single game, because that's definitely not the case.

Thats good news.

They say a change is as good as a rest. Can we have these teams change game focuses...you know, to refresh them; maybe call it workplace psychological enhancement procedures--yeah, that works..anything, but lets get that other team over here stat ;)

they should pull some of the staff off 2.3 and fix 2.2 in the short term. Youll loose more future potential sales putting off a fix until 2.3 with this issue and it would be better off being fixed now and not in 6 months time
