Horizons At loose ends . . .

My Elite Dangerous play has dropped off about 90% in the past month since the 2.2 "upgrade" (and I use the term loosely). The whole selling point of Elite Dangerous was "play your way". Well I was, and having a lot of fun, too but now I can't. FD wants the entire ED community to play "their" way now and so all the advice I was receiving from FD ("Go to Sothis, make big credits fast!", this came from FD!), the forums, other players, the Internet on how to play the game "my" way . . . mostly useless now.

I don't want to run passenger missions, hauling space-stations full of wanted people [arrrr] around the bubble. I'm not looking for combat and not yet up for exploration. I was having a great time trading, hauling cargo and building a workable credit balance and a small collection of A-rated ships in anticipation of these other activities but I cannot do that anymore and so am at loose ends. Can't build credit, maintenance and outfitting are eating up my credit balance and not being replenished by mission payouts. Passenger missions appear carefully designed to get a CMDR killed with that teeny, innocuous little "passengers may be wanted" 7 or 8 lines down the mission brief. As if I am going to transport wanted criminals long distances for almost no credits!

I thought getting paid fairly well for hauling cargo several hundred LY, risking multiple interdictions, gankers, griefers, program crashes, etc. that we had to endure was fair. Sure, the missions are still there, just at Burger King payout rates: Haul 400 tons of gold 2000 LY for 100,000 credits? Ship maintenance for that trip will cost more than 100,000 credits! [ugh] Single-mission payouts suck everything, my ship can carry over 400 tons and now we get "don't stack missions".

So now what? Let FD dictate how I play FD or move on to the next thing? SC is looking a bit better lately . . .

you don't need missions to trade and haul.

state depeding trade (boom high tech to boom extraction and back, or medicines from a boom system to a system in outbreak or war) pays 4000-9000 cr/t a-b-a, that's 2-4 mio/h in an AspE/t6, 4-8 mio/h in a t7/clipper/python, 10-20 mio in a t9/conda, and even more in my trutter.

for once playing the sandbox wins.

Oh come on, give me a break. This has nothing to do with "play my own way" vs. "forced way". You are just crying because you can't make 100mil/h anymore. If anything, Sothis was "forcing" players to trade because nothing even remotely came close to its payouts.

And don't act like there was any risk involved in Sothis that would justify such kind of reward.

Also reading the mission briefing isn't too much to ask. Most of the time even the name gives it away. "Drug Lord" or "Terrorist Leader" aren't usually job descriptions of nice citizens.

The payouts are bugged, this has been stated countless times. There's no use in creating thread after thread about it. We'll have to wait for the next patch. If you don't want to play Elite until then, fine. You can play SC in the meantime, I don't care.

I need some trades as I am fed up with the current mission board
Some real life examoles PLEASE of your trades

@efelstead

He basically gave you all you need. Use the galaxy map, or EDDB or whatever to find systems like this. States (such as boom) change over time, so it won't really work to just give out names, since the state may change until you are there.

exampel: Zvaithhogg, Laming Vision - export medical diagnostic equipment ~37 ly TO Facece, Simpson Depot, return with Palladium. Profit per T: 4500 A-B-A.

this only works as long as Facece is in Boom, after that you need to find a new/next system.

scout your routes with the galaxy map and bring trade samples on your first run, to find out whether palladium pays more, or indium this time...

It is also worth mentioning to consider your reputation with the faction whom is giving you just the 100k reward for the mission. If you are neutral then you can expect an improvement to your reward amount as you gain reputation.

There are always options to play things differently. There is a bug with no known time to fix on missions such as those from Sothis. You have lots of options. But not all of your options are clear and available where you are.

To be honest I had no idea at all about the information given to you above regarding systems in the state of a Boom. But the new map tools will allow you to find all of those details that you need to profit in many ways.

goemon - Thank you very much for the information!

Why exactly did you bother with replying?

Sounds to me like the OP is dictating to FD how the game should be played. The consequence of not being allowed to 'play his way' is that he will go and play another game. Oh dear...

I do play different games. Every day. I am not dictating to FD how the game should be played . Read the post and you will see that what I dislike is FD switching canoes mid-stream and trying to dictate to me how I must play.

It is a big galaxy, what is your reasoning for not wanting other players to be able to earn decent credits?

To play or not to play? That is your question and one you can freely choose.

I've played since the very first Alpha available to backers and to this day I STILL play the way I want to play. Nothing has changed my play style at all.

What, dear OP, you are saying is essentially: "FD took away my easy money, so now I have to play different." At, least, IMO, that's what it sounds like.

There's absolutely nothing in the game that forces anyone to do anything differently than they choose to so since the very beginning and to suggest otherwise is absolute         .

.....and threatening to go play Star Citizen if you don't get your easy credits back is beyond juvenile.

You're welcome!

Jeez, say SC is looking better lately and some people get ALL bent out of shape even though I never typed anything that looked remotely like "If FD doesn't" or "I want easy money". You have been playing since the Alpha? How many ships do you own? What is your credit balance and why do you or anyone else care how much anyone else earns or how they earn it in a galaxy with 400 million/billion/whatever star systems?

Why does anyone care how anyone else earns their credits or how many credits someone else has? Everybody mind their own g business.

Cool, go play SC, where you can pay $750 to play your way.

Job done.

I do, almost every day. And it IS looking much better almost every week. o7

BTW in case anyone is interested in the truth, SC costs $45.00.
