So you want to know about the Formidine Rift? (Part 3)

Yes, Cas A would be quite a find. By 3302, and my math is probably really wrong here, wouldn't the ejecta have disperesed from 10ly to ~642ly diameter?

That makes me wonder did the Cas A supernova cause the Rift? Doubtful and the Rift ( as we think we know it ) looks much wider than 642ly. Maybe it's what shook up the ant farm in the first place.

Also. anyone else find it odd that they have a name for a region but no one in 3302 seems to be able to pinpoint said region?

Considering the absence of Cas A, and the realization by many on this board after Kahina's Sol visit that Cambridge astronomers first detected Cas A, I'd reason this is still one of the most lucrative lines of pursuit.

I find the two clues "she didn't want to miss something during that visit" and "The most astute observation to date has been that this is Kahina's Story" corroborate closely with this line of thought.

The real question is how to search for something that doesn't exist in Gal-Map, nor in the skybox. Is it this that the Powers-that-be are trying so desperately to conceal? How can we pinpoint and infer the presence of a supernova remnant without our in-game navigational aides? Star patterns? And that still raises the question of what this absence could infer.

That is exactly what the Cassiopeia Project is working on trying to figure out. The plan is to plot out where Cassiopeia A *should be* in the galaxy map. The key variable is distance, we don't have a precise figure. We're going to plot a line along the corridor where Cas A should be at starting from the closest estimated distance and extending to the furthest estimated distance. We'll then try to fly that route in 100 light year increments getting a screenshot of the skybox facing both toward Sol and away from Sol noting any neutron stars that lie along the path and checking the nav panel for anything that appears out of place (such as a system that does not appear in the galaxy map).

My understanding is that the galaxy in Elite's 3302 timeline is based on data from the present. They didn't take the time to evolve the galaxy and figure out where things should actually be. Cas A should look like a 300+ year-old SNR even though if you could actually visit it in real life today it would be several thousand years old.

That's outstanding, and I reason a very concrete line of inquiry. I am currently in the rift (per the bizarre space noises I've been experiencing [where is it]) but I'd like to help with the project. I don't know how much use I'd be, as I have some pretty significant real life commitments, but what you are doing is very clever in my book.

We'll be starting the search around the 1st of December and would love any help that the Rifters can pour into the effort. More details here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/297941-The-Cassiopeia-Project

But then why isn't the Cas A cloud visible? Also, if the Cas A SNR is around, could it be the source of some of the weird audio people have been picking up in the EAFOTS region?

I would be very interested to know if any target coordinates generated by the Cas Project lead the expedition into the EAFOTS sector. I have not analyzed their published search coordinates yet to see, but it would not surprise me, as it is a large swathe of space.

Interestingly, the "noises" I picked up were in a system somewhat in-between the H & S nebulae, so probably an unlikely place to find the SNR of Cas A based on current lines of thinking. But who knows at this point.

In the mean time, I plan on searching the nearby region in an attempt to re-discover the audio anomaly. I'm quite skeptical it will turn up again, but it was noticeable enough (on my end) to warrant some extra personal exploration. My thoughts do wander back to the phrase, "It depends entirely on who goes looking" as a way to explain the disparity in detection, but this is admittedly a paper-thin rationale, and likely not in line with the original spirit of Drew's remark. All I can say is, it at least gives me a reason to delve deeper into the surrounding area, if only from an RP standpoint :p.

Did it sound something like this?

YES That was the exact noise. Seems to be a bug then!

o7 Excellent thank you for helping me figure that one out. I have been properly confused about that.

It's good to know I wasn't just hearing things then! (...although that doesn't confirm/deny the fact I may still be crazy for other reasons...)

What I did was to take the xviii that is writen on the moon cards and make a system name. Xv-i was given from the structure of system names.
I didn't find any xv-i i systems, so I did the ii=2=B. There area a few EAFOTS xv-i b sysems. The 37-0 was a guess based on the mr gin logo.

When I think about it now, the EAFOTS xv-i B50-0 system actually fits even better as the label says 500cl.

Everything here is based on the 'coordinates at end of message' thing. That might be bogus.

The moon card, representing fear, voyages to the unknow and dual personality is however worthy of more atention. The ambasador Waite, wolf and dog hints giving it even more weight.

with a watch your six look back at the heart and soul for each. I didn't really notice anything I even started staring at the clouds and void to see if I could see any patterns in that. Maybe my moon card's reversed. Those moon card keywords sure fit the Rift mystery:
Imagination running high.
Strong and vivid dreams.
Intuition pushing forward.
Unknown territory.
Fear and phobia.
Uncertain reality.
Confusion.
Following your instincts.
Wanting to hide from the world.
Creativity.
Treasures disguised as monsters.

The two towers can certainly be the heart and soul as can be the dog and wolf.
I wonder if the Mr Gin label with ginMRgin with the moon over the M can be interpreted as a system pattern.

I wonder if just asking "Drew did you know "The Moon Card Mr Gin" is an anagram of "Right On, Commander?"
It's always been there so we have to think how they could have been used since the beginning since EAFOTS comes much much later. If he used this it's only new to us. For all we know the entire story's genesis could have come from this.

Thanks for checking. Out of rep.

I'm a bit split on this thing. Part of me thinks that these tarot cards are designed spesificaly to fit to everything. That you can basically take any one of them and make it fit. They are the tools of quacks.

On the other hand, 'The Moon' is the clasic fear card in tarot.

Arthur Edward Waite, co-creator of the Rider-Waite Tarot deck was mostly know as A. E. Waite. A. E. Waite -> Amassador Earth Waite.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A._E._Waite

These two things, plus the anagram makes me think it's a bit more than a coinsidence. On top, Drew has recomended Sol permit for those searching.

Think Drew is fully capable of reverse engineering the 'Right on, Commander' frase into something like this.

Really? Who'd have thunk it.

Ok, I'm going to try to ask serious questions:

The Moon Card Mr Gin
Where does 'Mr Gin' fit into this? You can't just take half a clue - you have to justify the whole thing.

How does the Moon card moves us forward? Sure, you can interpret the tarot card to be related to the Rift, but then what?

Not so serious comment:
The anagram could also be Flash Gordon related - "The Ming Card, Moron" fits just as well.

Sometimes I'm embarrassed to be associated with this thread.

The 'Mr Gin' label is in the first post on the subject.

Yes, it is. How does it tie to a tarot card thoigh?

Here's the thing:
Drew has repeatedly confirmed that Greek and Babylonian mythology, plus the 'seven veils' are integral to the mystery.
He has not, at any point, confirmed that there is a hidden message in 'Right on, commander'.

And yet, here we are, pulling meaningless anagrams out of Ro,c (the most commonly used phrase in the galaxy) and tying that to a tarot card - a device specifically intended to be interpreted in a myriad of ways - to identify systems in the EAFOTS sector, which we know is on the wrong side of the Rift. Forgive my cynicism, but that seems like a monumental.waste of time.

We still have no idea what we're looking for - unless you're expecting to find a USS containing a tarot card tied to a bottle of gin.

If you want to have fun with 'The moon card mr gin' try this:

A Pink Floyd is a gin-based cocktail.
The band Pink Floyd released an album called 'Dark Side of the Moon'.
The artwork for this album features a prism.
Also, Pink Floyd are from Cambridge, which explains Kahina's visit there.
In 1988, Goldmine magazine's cover band was Pink Floyd, and the issue included an article on John Waite.

So go to the Prism system and find a tidally-locked moon, then look for USSs and POIs on the dark side.

The tie in is Waite, the Amassador to Earth and the large vial of 'old' liqour.

Wasting time is all we do here. :p
