FSD fuel limit override

their should be an option in the system functions menu that allows for you to override the fuel usage limit per jump that you could toggle on and off, this would allow for longer jumps but would require commanders to conscientious of what kind of Star their jumping to and wouldn't be able to auto plot a route since the flight computer would only be able to chart safe/normal jumps. This would of most beneficial to explorers and long range haulers though anyone could use it. It should also have a confirmation screen (like self destruct) that warns "the fight computer would not be able to chart courses while the limit override is on and you might end up stranded if you don't plot your hyperspace jumps carefully. Do you wish to activate the override?"

Addition
---------------------------

This is not the same as synthesis as making FSD inject increases fuel efficiency, this override would uncap the tonnage of fuel allowed to be used in the jump

isn't that what we have systhesis for? (only that sythesis does not need more fuel per jump)

synthesis increases fuel efficiency, not uncap the limit you still can't use more than X Tons of fuel per jump besides this would be an advanced flight feature much like turning flight assist off to get an edge in combat is an advanced flight feature.

Synthesis does use more fuel, IIRC.

Sometimes you can get a lucky roll on an FSD range upgrade that increases the amount of fuel you can use. But it's not a toggle, it's just there, and it's not huge, a few percent. But it does increase your jump range.

As far as I know there is no other facility for increasing fuel usage allotment.

the point is, your proposal would make synthesis obsolete in 99% of all use-cases.

Not necessarily, I did a little bit of testing on this. If your using a neutron star and you used an FSD injection it doesn't double the range you get from a neutron supercharge but you do get a range increase, therefore synthesis of the inject increases efficiency because they're based off your base range. In this example you'd get maybe 30 to 40 Lightyear range increase (based off of how much range it has to start with) and 99% is a bit much don't you think, what about the other synthesis? Munitions, AFM refill and SRV synthesis :/

So basically, you want to have unlimited jump range provided you have the fuel and patience to plot one jump at a time for routes?

The key word in your statement is patience, you have to have patience to do anything in elite and plotting one jump at a time isn't as bad as you think I do that on the neutron highways it just takes practice. And also ships already have an unlimited jump range or don't you use a fuel scoop?

Example: if you had enough patience and time you can fly a sidewinder to the other side of the galaxy and back.

Also in the real world there is something in cars called a governor that limits a cars speed but a sufficiently skilled mechanic can remove such devices (albeit usually not legally) I'd imagine there's such a device on the FSD that limits the fuel that a sufficiently skilled mechanic in the 33rd century could remove or alter to allow you to go over that limit.

A compromise could be that you'd have to go to a station with a black-market pay a few million to have the limiter removed with a control program that adds the option to the function menu and if your ship gets destroyed insurance will not replace the modification.

I find this a nice idea.. The farther you jump the more fuel you consume. Combining this with synthesis will help a lot to reach distant stars ( the ones that are far away from any other star, for instance the edges of the galaxy - the top - or the bottom ).

i do understand, why synthesis isn't liked much, but fuel - is just plenty in the galaxy.

Isn't synthesis already obsolete? I mean: I rarely use it... and I never use it for the FSD boost ( who wants to farm hours to be able to do 2 boosted jumps? )

The increase of synthesis plus the limit removal wouldn't be as much as you think. my Asp X with explorer gear gets 46 lightyears (50 if your talking about its absolute max jump distance on a half tank). premium fsd inject would make it roughly 90 if the limit removal where incorporate my asp could go roughly 200 in one jump give or take on a full tank with the premium inject used to increase I'd only see a 46 lightyear gain.

Though if you where to go to a neutron star supercharge the fsd (+130) then use an fsd inject (+46) and then toggle the limiter (+200) your going to cover quite a big chunk of space (376ly) but this is assuming your at a neutron star, have the materials for the premium inject and you toggle your limiter. On a day to day basis the normal player won't have two of the three conditions in their favor. Mind you I'm just rounding on the numbers for quick calculations.

Even without a neutron star, a gain of 46ly is not something to laugh about. I mean, with that boost you can surely reach remote stars, and that would be a very nice place to explore

It's not something to laugh at for sure but the amount of time you need to mine the materials for one synthesis boosted jump you could be over three quarters of the way to where you're going.

Sorry, but absolutely not.

Aside from the fact that FSD limits are more than just arbitrarily imposed vehicle control, this is just "make the game easier for me pls".

When would giving everyone unlimited jump range ever be a good idea? Completely ruins any point in different FSDs, FSD mods, FSD synth boosts, loadout control to keep mass reasonable...if you want to reach new heights, use these tools.

This is absolutely not about "make the game easier for me pls" as you so aptly put it (I seldom ever abbreviate single words if your going to try and mock me please do it right) this is about realism. It's it unrealistic to think that NOBODY in the 33rd century would have never removed such limiters on their ships when there are people in this century (the 20th) who remove the governor from their car so that it can go faster than legally allowed. That's why (if you'd have read the whole thread you'd know) I suggested a compromise that you'd need to go to a blackmarket and pay a few million to get the limiter removed and that if your ship gets destroyed the insurance rebuy would put the stock rated FSD in your ship that you had before you got the limiter removed meaning you'd have to spend a few million more to get that back in your ship. Now I ask you how does that translate to me wanting the game to be easier?

As to your other bit there's still differences between an E rated and an A rated FSD even after the limit removal since better rated FSD's can use fuel more efficiently thus allowing more range for a larger mass.

FSD modifications are meant to be tweaks on the FSD providing a slightly better efficiency.

Synthesis boosts are not worth the time necessary to mine all the materials needed to go any reasonable distance for a sustainable length of time. By the time you have the materials for such you could have been to where you were going and back by conventional means.

And I said nothing about mass and the effect that it would have, it would still be the same on the FSD whether you could jump 200 lightyears at once or 50 lightyears four times.

Also I said nothing about "giving" and I point back to the compromise about "buying" it from the blackmarket nor did I say that the range is unlimited that is you reading it the way you want to read it. If this where implemented the best you could hope for in one jump is just over 200 lightyears while expending your entire fuel tank leaving you with what ever your burning in reserves meaning that if you jumped to your maximum range you would have no fuel left to make another jump meaning that you would need to scoop fuel from the star while your riding on your reserves. If the star isn't scoopable then you have two options, call the fuel rats or self destruct. I said that you could fly a sidewinder from one side to the other (right now with the game as is) and that proves that theoretically every ship in the game has unlimited range already
