Sidewinder Sequals: Adventures in or near the bubble.

Hay Cmdrs,

Frawd is back in the sidewinder...everybody have a drink!!

I have decided to use my trusty sidey, the Grass Hopper II to have some adventures in or near the bubble, visiting all the new and interesting sites that have appeared since 2.2 dropped.

I have upgraded the Grass Hopper II with a level 5 FSD (26.7LY Max Jump) and level 1 thrusters and power plant. I have also given her an SRV bay to make life more fun!

Over the past two nights I have been exploring the alien ruins on SYNUEFE XR-H D11-102 1 B...and boy what a strange spooky place this is turning out to be. The planet has a rotational period of 6.9 days and currently that puts the ruins in darkness (with Barnard's Loop peaking over the horizon and the galactic plane streaking across the sky...gorgeous). The blue/green glowy stuff/crystals are extra spooky at night and the "singing" from some parts of the ruins is downright scary.

However, what I really noticed was that something strange is going on with either gravity of the magnetic fields in this place. In certain parts of the ruins and at certain times I can stop the SRV and then it begins rolling again at a constant speed of 1-3 m/s. I can turn the SRV around in the opposite direction and the phenomenon is the same, so it's not a gentle slope that I am rolling down. The SRV will even roll over slight mounds, up and then down at a constant speed. And then occasionally that phenomenon will cease and no more rolling. You can see all this in video #2 below.

In addition, some of the alien objects appear to be magnetic, attracting the SRV to them even up quite steep slopes. Video #1 below shows me rolling up a slope, with me applying no power to the motors, to one of the metal objects (specifically one of the three on the raised circular dais). The strength of the "magnetic field" seems to fluctuate or pulse, as I sometimes rolled back away from the object then get dragged back towards it again (with a bang). Also note the pulsing of my red tails lights (but not my headlights) in unison with the rolling back and forth.

Finally, in video #3 shows SYNUEFE XR-H D11-102 1 B's moon and how it is beautifully aligned with the raised circular dais and the long high ridge leading to the dais. I wonder if the moon has something to do with this, and whether we might find more interesting things on that moon. Something I will be investigating when I log on next.

Here are a couple of images from my first night at the ruins:

And here are the videos:

Video #1: Shows me being pulled up a slope towards one of the metal objects on the raised circular dais. Watch for the pulsing of my tail lights and the strength of the magnetic field.

Video #2: Rolling both ways along the ridge leading to the raised circular dais. I am not applying power to the SRV, except initially to get to the top of the ridge.

Video #3 shows the alignment of the ridge with the planet's moon and how close and spooky it is. The two dark objects I am rolling towards appear to be some sort of "gate" for the ridge.

I will be posting more from this planet over the next few days. Eventually I will move on to the other sites.

I've been flying around in my new improved FDS basically dropping my SRVs on planets to do salvage work. Salvage work doesn't pay that well but buggying around, finding wrecks and salvaging is fun. I think I may take a trip out your way, that alien stuff looks interesting. I'll let you know when I'm in the area, gotta work Wednesday night my time so Thursday night your time might be cool for a meet up.

Absolutely Cmdr...we can hoon around the ruins together in our SRVs. Would be more fun and less spooky if I have someone there with me

And wow, what a post it was...he has done a huge amount of work on the mystery.

I prefer Shiraz (for winter) and chilled Verdello (for summer)

I am learning about how not to find the opposite side of a planet using latitude and longitude...

The opposite side of 31.7848 S, 128.9231 W is not 31.7848 N, 128.9231 E...it is 31.7848 N, 51.0769 E.

Still nothing...

Tonight I had a break from examining the alien ruins and went to look for some crashed alien ships. I chose the third ones to be found at HIP17403. They sure are very interesting and there certainly seems to have been some massive battle going on over that world:

And I saw my first ever unknown artifact...very pretty with their pulsing green/blue lights:

Following the story of the discovery of the third crash site backwards I then went to the research installation at San Tu...which is also really cool (of course looks a lot like a CQC arena), and I "spoke" to one of the salellites that gave clues about the crash site...and played in the arena :)

Then i headed back to SYNUEFE so I am in the ruins system for some more exploring tomorrow.

I had the strange "magnetism" thing going again last night...unfortunately after a bit of experimentation it turns out my joy-stick forward thrust button is sending spurious signals to my SRV making me inch forward in whatever direction I was facing... :(

Oh well, still lots of other exciting stuff to investigate.

Yeah, I actually stopped by the ruins this weekend and saw Frawd there in his trusty Sidewinder again! I guess his Orca is taking a breather for now!

I honestly greatly enjoy taking my Keelback out to scenic vistas simply to drop off the SRV and run around planet surfaces gathering up anything and everything I find until the Keelback is full, and then selling it all just to do it all over again. And occasionally I'll get a few surface salvage missions from an outpost or two as well. Sure it doesn't make much credits, but hey fun is priceless! And I've become quite fond of my Keelback, that ship has character.

I reckon that's why Frawd keeps choosing his Sidey over every other ship the galaxy has to offer!

Well you can see his headlights ;)

It is a grower, isn't it? :)
The next time you take off in a station, especially if you're far back, put on headphones, turn on the bass, and give the Keelster a full throttle. Gotta love that meaty old-school rocket engine sound.

LOL, yes. I choose the sidey for the scenic stuff. Hope to get a pic of the Grass Hopper II and all of the interesting vistas around the bubble (and of course the other side of the galaxy). The sidey if a highly manoeuvrable ship, unlike the lumbering Orca (but the Orca does look cool and has oodles of space for parties). The sidey is so easy to fly!

Love the pics...the little cone of light in all that inky blackness. That has been my life these past 7 days or so, mostly spent in darkness.

Hopefully I'll see you back at the ruins cmdr when the sun comes up.

My first vision of the Keelback was about 65KLY from Sol with Cmdr Mr Crown Vic P71 at the helm. The flying brick, but also very versatile obviously :)

Had a bit of a bingle a couple of days ago at the ruins...and as the sidey has no shields I dropped down to 50%.

Consequently, I quickly went back to SOL and fixed myself up and also got a bit of bling for the cockpit:

Then I headed back to the synuefe ruins system and looked at the poles of the ruins-moon and it's moon. Of course found nada, nothing, nix, zip...

Frawd

First doing a 'Chiggy' and now having a 'bingle'. I am feeling my age here . . . But seriously, epic adventures there, Fawd. I am quite jealous!

Assumed that was Australian for crash. Asked urban dictionary (via google rather than explicitly) and it agreed but it has many other meanings on there. I'm really hoping you just had an Aussie crash...

Lol...yes in Aus it means a small crash. I will have to go and check out urban dictionary to see the other meanings

(Holy crap!! I definitely meant small crash!! Not any of the other meanings!! )

No!...you are having the most epic of adventures! Glad to see you didn't have to commit explorercide... :)

Me too! It was quite a ride - but thankfully I am now back to slowly pottering about near Beagle Point 2. If I see any large mountains (I love mountains) I will name one Mount Chiggy and the other Mount Bingle' (if that's not rude?!) . . . Safe travels, Frawd - fly safe, fly Germanium . . .

As a break from the thoroughly frustrating alien ruins I thought I would head to see one of the other mysteries occurring in the galaxy at this time:

The mining settlement of Dav's Hope on Hyades sector dr-v c2-23 A 5 (lat 44.818, long -31.389)...a mysteriously abandoned mining camp in quite stark but beautiful surroundings.

After exploring and getting the "full story" through the data uplinks some SRV shenanigans were had with the following result:

TvdxvZr.jpg

Which was then followed by SRV self-destruct...and a consequent planned trip back to the bubble to get a new SRV. But it was fun!
