New Patch, New Bugs... It's Pityful

So the desired patch to fix mission rewards is eventually released and installed. Mission rewards seem o.k. again. But I just came across a new "feature":

Up to now I was a harmless trader killing the occasional pirate from time to time and saving the grinded money for the next (better) ship. My legal status has been "clean". After installing the patch this morning I was interdicted and attacked two times, deployed my hardpoints, shot back - and was instantly fined for attacking resp. murdering. [mad]

Now I carry a nice 6600 CR bounty on my head and are wanted in the respective two systems. I was not even able to pay this bounty though I tried to immediately as when I'm docked inside the station the contact board simply does not display any fines against me at all??!!!

The left handed cockpit menu says something like 6600 CR bounty for 5 days and 23 hours. Does that mean I'll not be able to pay before these 6 days are up?? [knocked out] Anybody can shoot me during this period?

Sorry FD, if I would work in my professional field (health care) as you do in yours, that would mean killing people all the time. I'm really fed up.

Did you actually scan the targets before you opened fire or did you do like all new players and fail to check your targets?

If they open fire on him, he doesn't need to scan anybody.

@Starman: Are you sure you only shot the pirate(s) and not police, who will come and help you after a while sometimes?

Try the Sidewinder cure. Buy a Sidewinder, get scanned in the system where you acquired the bounty, and let the enemy roast you. Problem solved...

(I do it this way: I leave the station and attack a system authority vessel -- the station then fries me so quickly I barely have the time to give 'em the finger. To be fair, though, I usually lose close to a million in bounties when that happens (has to hurt, after all)).

This isn't new - been this way since .. 2.0 maybe? If you are not pledged to a PowerPlay faction then you must have shot the targets before the scan had finished so effectively you hit a "clean" ship, henc ethe first fine. Kill them and you get the bounty. Bounties last 7 days, after which they turn into a dormant bounty (another 7 days) - you'll show clean in that time but if you get scanned by system authority or station then it'll reactivate as a 7 day bounty. If you get through the 14 days OK then it becomes a legacy fine that you should be able to pay off.

If you want to clear it quickly, get into a sidewinder and strip it of everything, then jump to the system you are wanted in, dock, exit then let the system authority ships scan & kill you. You'll have to pay the bounty as part of the sidewinder rebuy but you then be clean again. There are other ways to clear the bounty - have a search, it's discussed quite often (here and in the CG threads).

Have you got 'Report crimes committed against me' switched on in the functions tab? If not, a 'clean' pirate can attack you and not get a bounty, but you will get one because they're still clean. Also, did you finish the basic ship scan before you opened up? Even if the ship was wanted, failing to complete that scan results in a bounty as if you hit a clean ship. You can't pay off that bounty either, I'm guessing you shot them to destruction which means it's a murder bounty which means you have to wait for it go off.

If he had "Report Crimes against me" set to on, as soon as NPCs attacked him and hit his shields they would get a micro fine/bounty of 200/400Cr, so you can then shoot back with impunity.

I had it with bounty hunters tracking me down and I let them get the first shot off, they get a bounty for shooting at me and then i can attempt to kill them.

If "Report Crimes" was not enabled, then shooting back would result in the fine/bounty.

Otherwise it seems to be a bug.

FYI you cannot pay off bounties for 5-7 days after they occur, look at transaction tab to see when it expires, only after that period will you see it as a fine to pay off in the contacts section.

Just use neighboring systems for your mission work for that time period and keep an eye out for bounty hunters, make sure "Report Crimes" is ion and let them shoot first.

Just fyi, this does not make 2.2.02 bugged at all, what, so, ever, one sample can be pure bad luck.

That can't just pay a bounty isn't a bug, the Idea of bounty is that it actually has consequences. Could need even more of that.

As for why you did get wanted, could be a bug, could not be. Powerplay as pointed out could be reason for this as well as the report crimes against me option.

The bounty system is complex. Here's a flowchart that might help.

"Report crimes against me" is always on. AFAIK an interdiction is already fined with 400 CR and thus there should be absolutely no need for scanning before firing. I'll try the "sidewinder cure". Don't like to bother with a support ticket. Have no idea anyway how to initiate that and no expectation to get an answer.

Thanks all.

Yes, interdicting a clean target gets you fine, not a wanted status. Shooting people who only have fines on there head and not a bounty is illegal.

Report crimes doesn't make a difference to whether they become wanted or not. It only brings the cops to help you fight, then they scan you afterwards, so don't do that if you're doing anything dodgy.

The bounty is no problem. You're not wanted anywhere else, so go to a new system and do whatever you were doing there.

If ships are shooting at you, the moment you target them, it'll show clean or wanted. You don't have to wait for a scan. If it doesn't yet show, that ship hasn't fired at you, so you have to wait for the scan.

Hi

has this changed along the way then? I could have sworn at some point interdicting a clean ship got yourself a bounty........ i must have been v lucky over the last however long then as i always thought a pirate interdicting me was a green light to unleash the dogs.

The core issue isn't a "KWS Scan", the issue is this :
- an Interdiction is merely a fine and does not yield Wanted Status
- engaging anything before the basic Ship Scan (lower Left HUD - Name, Shield Status, Clean/Wanted) is resolved will result in a Fine (Wanted Status, ~8 Mins timer, Clear on H-Jump after timeout)
-> continuing the Attack under such circumstances will incur a Murder Bounty (several Days Timer)

Those ~5sec for the basic Ship Scan (ID) is needed for any engagement, unless fired upon and hit first (this will auto-complete the Ship ID, thus no more basic scan needed when returning fire in defense).

What I found is the following nasty issue :
NPCs (even scanned/Wanted ones) deploying a Fighter will deploy an unscanned Ship - hit that one (stray fire or before basic scan) and you'll get the same Fines/Bounty.

Just now I'm sitting on one of these, as (it seems) my own Fighter engaged a freshly depoyed Wanted NPC's Fighter (it was clearly marked in Red visually and on the Scanner).
Within seconds I received 2 Fines for the "unwarranted attack" on that clearly hostile Fighter, which was launched from a Wanted and Hostile (already exchanged fire) NPC mothership.

So there's some issues remaining with the whole concept, the newest one being those deployed Fighters requiring that basic Scan (and that's not a concept yet for our own Crew NPCs).

Report crimes on or off makes a big diffrence, when its off nobody gets a bounty for shooting you but you will get a boutny for shooting them.

Can't really remember if it was diffrent once upon a time, but currently interdicting a clean ship only gets you fine. Pirates will always have bounty tough as far as I can tell, where you have to be careful is npc bounty hunters. Had them coming after me when I was flying about with a bounty, and even tough I wasn't wanted in the system they are interdicted me they did stay clean after interdiction. they will only get wanted once they shoot at you first.
