So you want to know about the Formidine Rift? (Part 3)

Something to note regarding the Galnet article about the Federation appeal for exploration data:

I think that this is the first time the actual location of the Formidine Rift has been officially verified. It would appear that the Rift is much closer then many of us, myself included, have believed it to be. Those voices that have been saying so for a long time now appear to be validated.

'Ere, who you calling validated? I'm strictly Independent! :D

Guys, I'm confused. Help me out here:

Were these beacons in these systems before this update, and this update and CG merely helped us locate them to move things along? If it's the latter, and these beacons were added with the CG, and the Rift mystery ends up being solved because of all this, isn't that kind of a letdown?

I guess I'm confused on how these beacons were found; by chance or were we lead there by the CG? And were they placed in these systems with Thursdays update or were they there prior (if that's possible to answer?)

No letdown for me!

Now that after mounths that nothing has been found EAFOTS, many probes appear... It's clear that these have been added with the last server side update. what can be told about all the statements about the mysterious presence of undefined something in the Formidine Rift from the first release?????? Is there really something else never been found or it was a joke?

One thing I'll point out, and you can take it as it is - on my way out to the EAFOTS system mentioned in the CG, I was already about half way there but I had taken a turn off to investigate the Neutron star jumping thing, so I was off the beaten track between the bubble and the H+S nebulae.

As I passed through the PLAA systems and started hitting HEART SECTOR and into EAFOTS, I've hit many (and I mean the majority) of the systems that were still unexplored. I've got bookmarks from my last trip to H+S, and I'm only 70 or 80 ly away from where I previously was, and there are still many sectors in both HEART and EAFOTS sectors that are unexplored.

I'm sure these beacons have been added as a pointer to whatever it is we're looking for - I mean, FDev have given us the RR line and EAFOTS/vain queen clues, Drew has given us the directions to H+S several times, and we've still not found what it is.

This is a trail of breadcrumbs that has been added, I don't doubt - even a single system with an interesting POI 8kylies from SOL isn't guaranteed to get found, so this is another nudge in the right direction.

@ERIMUS
these beacons appear to be redefining the location of the Formidine Rift- will the map be updated accordingly?

They're all in the Rift "region" as we know it, so there's no need to redefine the map until we have distinct boundaries, and thats something we're not likely to get for a while (if ever).

I guess you have take Drew's word for it. Something was there from the start. A lot more has been added later.

Could you provide me the ingame coordinates so that I can put them on my Rift skymap :)

These appear to be the Formidine Rift beacons found so far

EAFOTS LZ-H RALLY POINT 1
EAFOTS GL-Y E2 RALLYPOINT 6
EAFOTS EU-R C4-1 RALLYPOINT 2

The rallypoint numbering suggests 3 more to find. Of course the FR may well be larger than the area these beacons denote, but it's finally Frontier confirmation of where the FR actually lies.

Cool Thx, do you have the ingame X/Y/Z coords ? that would be helpfull to test some ideas and do some mapping.

So three more to find at the very least...

I think "rallypoints" refers to landable planets in the beacon systems, not number of beacons. At least in Hawkings Gap beacons we have three distinct bodies named in that line.

Four beacons, maybe. We still have to find one in PLAA AEC transmitting at :45.

Sorry if I'm mistaken & I don't have their coordinates; I've been out of game for 6 weeks now & a few more days before I can get in to check these against the the galmap and EDD map overlay, but I thought the FR as currently mapped is further out from this area?

These satellites certainly appear to be recognisably human tech, so who is/was supposed to be rallying there?
If it is left-over Galcop-era hardware, could the Galactic Navy have been using these systems as staging posts? (The original Elite manual stated that the majority of the Thargoid fleets were engaged by the Galactic Navy in deep space, although I don't know if that is still canon).
If these are recently placed (by the Federation or anyone else), then what was the basis for choosing these locations and what types of ship are going to rendezvous there? I can only guess it is some kind of covert operation, so colonisation seems unlikely. If it is a prelude to a military campaign, then would it not make sense to have resupply bases, or are they going to be relying upon capital ships? What objective is it that lurks within strike range (200LY?) - that might be what we have to find?

If the wording was "rallypoints" in the plural then that might be valid, but I think it's only "rallypoint" in the singular in all the decoded messages; does the system map show 6 landables for Eafots GL-Y E2?

The Dynasty Expedition sounds interesting, and is probably something that has been planned for a while. I remember something minor from way back when, which is a minor spoiler, so I'll put it behind a tag:
when people were compiling a list of permit-requiring systems and regions, they also found some referring to unknown areas. Among these were separate ones called Dynasty1-5. So now we get Dynasty Expedition 6? I wonder if we'll have to go looking for this one and the ones before.

I also wonder about the recurring "DNSTYS6ERP" part. ERP probably stands for Expedition Rally Point, so what's the S6 part for? Dynasty Scout 6 perhaps? Like others have mentioned in the thread, there was the "S6: 7" ship sighting near Obsidian Orbital on GalNet way back when. I wonder if that wasn't an automated ship that went way off its mark. (Or perhaps they were just sent out back in January, and one stumbled upon Obsidian Orbital on its way out.) If you assume that somebody would send automated recon ships out, then leaving behind beacons to either coordinate the scouts' efforts or to relay info to a later expedition makes sense.
Said beacons are apparently in standby mode, so I wonder: has anyone visited them in a Diamondback Explorer yet?

I think you are right, I patroled a very large area, and no other beacons, as many cmdrs already, I assume.

EAFOTS GL-Y E2 has only ONE landable planet... Number 6. The others 3 have a landable planet each at corresponding number, and the "C2" isnt a typo at all. we nned more people down here, and with many srv!

The near rift borders were pretty much defined by Salomé back in May. Her border waypoints run through the Heart & Soul Nebula, as does part of the EAFOTS sector, so she was spot on with her waypoints imho.

The far border is unknown, but if a rift is defined as a 'gap' between two locations, it could stretch all the way across the 'void' to the the near edge of the outer arm.

Its width (how far along the Perseus arm edge it stretches) is the one we'll probably never be able to define.

Another Hawking's Gap beacon at PLAA AEC RY-B B41-1.

Sorry, but my English is very basic. I think you misundestood me, I was talking about the sixth planet in GL-Y is landable and the rallypoint for this system, as all the other planets named in the beacons' transmissions.

planets number / rallypoint are plausible.

Okay so multiple rally point beacons and that the designation for each point invovles TWO LETTERS and a number indicates there could be a HUGE number of these, so many more than the handful that have actually been found.

I doubt much more of real significance will be gained directly through finding them (though they may infer a direction or route in sequence per "region"?) Does the ones so far discovered in Conflux (of whiuch it seems most have been found) lie along a certain trajectory direction?

THoguh presumably, for purtpose of the FR itself, perhaps efforts should be made to locate more such beacons around the rally point in EAFOTS sectors?

____________

It took me so long to write this I missed the points regarding number of landable planets.

That would make sense and also support the point the landing on planets is not c rucial to solving the mystery, whilst those planets' relevance is clear.
