Hiya. Despite always fitting my ships with an ADS for a few extra random credits in my travels around the bubble, I'd never tried my hand at exploring - hadn't even been more than a few hundred LYs from the starter systems. So yesterday I re-bought an AspX (sold my old one to outfit my Python when I acquired it), threw the Python's L4 FSD in it and set off to see what all the fuss is about Colonia. Currently about 4K LYs from home and it's been interesting enough so far, but have a couple of noob questions:
1. Exploration data. I know you need to be X LYs from the system to sell the data, but is there any change/increase in value the further away you get? Just wondering if it's smarter to sell off at the "pitstop" stations on the way out, or to hoard it. On the trip back I was probably going to keep it all for rep/rank investment when I get back to the bubble, any suggestions on effective or smart ways to do this?
2. Tagging systems. Basically, if I scan a system and an individual body doesn't have a "First Discovered By" tag against it, that's mine for the taking if I want to DSS it right? I know I don't get it until I hand in the scan, but wanted to be sure I'm not wasting too much time. Also, if I pick up a water world or ELF (or anything interesting) on the initial scan, is there any advantage to detailed scanning if it's already tagged, or is there no bonus to be gained there? Or do you HAVE to DSS it to confirm what it is and get the corresponding payout?
While it's nice to be doing this as a change of pace from pew-pew, I'm definitely in it to a fair degree for credits and exploration rank (currently low-level Pathfinder) so any advice would be welcome. It's been pretty smooth sailing so far, so here's to another 18k of the same...
P.S. In case anyone cares, approximate loadout is https://coriolis.edcd.io/outfit/asp...0i40v62f.Iw18WQ==.Aw18WQ==.?bn=Long Range Asp . With the upgraded FSD I get a shade over 42 LYs per jump.
