So you want to know about the Formidine Rift? (Part 3)

I've just read the Formidine expedition thread, and it was mentioned that we should pay attention to the constellations for clues, so keep your eyes on distant stars, and look for anything that could be a clue. We're talking stars lining up to tell us something.

Well the beacon stars in Corvus kinda look like an extended triagular base pyramid that could be pointing somewhere, maybe in the direction ow PRU AESCS KM-R B32-2 ~ish

To those asking if enough stars have been explored yet, well I took an evening off, and I've logged back in to the Hawkins Gap to find the loonies have already made it back and many places I go are now claimed. It's possible they've not looked at the extremely distant secondary systems, and the far off rockies, as these usually aren't claimed, but as you only need to get within 1000ly, I rather suspect they just didn't waste time tagging them. I'm going to idly look at a few star systems and then set out for home myself too... Apart from taking a high resolution screenshot of a probe, I once more haven't felt like part of this kind of content sadly... all 4 Hawkins Probes were found before 2 days were out, before I could even get here. And I'm not insane enough to grind for 15 hours straight to get over to the Rift before any potential patch. Slow journey home ready for the Christmas Carriers instead methinks.

You know those ambient noises you hear when you have landed on a planet and everything is quiet? Are they the same from planet to planet?

On a certain planet in the Gap, I am hearing a low muffled beeping. Sometimes slower, sometimes faster. I sat on another planet and did not really hear it, but as soon as I came back and landed in the same canyon region I heard the noise.

I don't normally listen to the noises when landed, so I am not sure if this is just normal noise. It is noticeable, in other words, you can recognize it in the variety of sounds you hear.

I don't want to build any hype, as I am not really sure if it is normal. I will investigate this region anyway.

EDIT: Before anyone asks, NO this has nothing to do with the voices in my head.

Maybe stick a "breaking news" section at the start like the Canonn thread where you can dump stuff unsorted as it happens, then eventually slot it into the relevant section when it calms down again.

I recommend this aswell. I have been away from civilization for a couple of days and i come on seeing there are some signals being found between the three CG areas and i cant find any concise information as to what they are and when, by whom and where were they found. A first page "Breaking News" section is a must. Aint nobody got time to browse through pages upon pages of tinfoil-hatting.

On the note of me hearing noises, is there any free recording software I could use to get the audio?

I have shadowplay, but I was hoping to just get audio.

Audacity should work. You'll have to play with the settings to get it to record from your desktop but it should be possible.

So I am EAFOTS scanning and what not. I get to the directly down from the First system with the beacon. Down below it toward the galactic floor.

Anywho There are 4 suns I go to the fourth sun and the first planet. I see that the planet looks like the exact texture and geography of the Planet where the massive alien crash is located.

I land and start driving in my SRV. Then the game crashes to the desktop. It is now repeatedly crashing and no troubleshooting is helping. I am no longer able to play the game all. Is this happening to anyone else? If so have you found a fix. Asking here as it seems alot of people are talking about EAFOTS sector right now.

Note your coordinates & system name & tell us here. Raise a bug report

You're forgiven :D
Can you take bearings on the beeping & locate it?

I also hear the beeping on the HMC planet next to it, so I guess nevermind.

Still might be worth seeing if it is locatable. We are searching for something in space which may have expanded onto planetary surfaces, so I expect if this is a centre of alien activity it could be spread over several planets.

Good idea. I did try that with the player group info. I'll repurpose that section :)

I'd suggest wrapping each particular subsection in a spoiler tag to sort of "clean things up". It might make it easier to read or, at least, easier to find specific topics.

Well I was in PLAA AEC TT-B B41-3. I noticed the sound on both the planet the beacon orbits, as well as the planet the beacon indicates (B2).

As I moved around the planet, I did not notice any changes in the sound. It would play randomly.

I really want there to be something out here. It feels like FDev are just running us around.

If you think about it, there may not be anything out here at all. Whatever is in the Rift or any other mystery location might not even exist. The galaxy is so big that they easily could have told us something amazing is out there and they wouldn't have to actually do anything.

I am not saying thats what they have done. Rather, I hope they have lots of content ready to be found or added. Perhaps I am getting impatient.

Not sure, would they not be something from tales old too? If not, they're not as big as whatever's in the Formidine Rift.

I've just arrived in the EAFOTS secure, I guess everyone has checked the EB-P systems? Something that was deduced from the "Good Luck... And Right on Commander" line?

Has anyone actually followed the line, between the Heart and Soul nebulae and onwards?

EB-P ? You means RO-C using Rot 13 right?

That was just a test Drew gave us a while back to get us to learn to crack some riddles. No more no less.

He used 'EB, P' in a few locations to get us to identify it as RO,C ... Right on, Commander.

Yep I already thought of doing that earlier today. The only reason I didn't do it before is because it reads terribly on a mobile device ... but I think it might need it. I need to have a filter through the last 100 pages or so of this thread and update the OPs. Just been really busy IRL ... one more week and I can start winding down for Christmas and spend more time on my second life ;)

Been watching the Josh Hawkins 'brocast' this last couple of hours. Some great tin foil theories in there from Shabooka (with help from Erimus) regarding the beacons. A little bit disappointed the rifters didn't get a mention though. Especially as 'rogue AIs' have been a rifter favourite theory for over a year now.

Still, a good listen for anyone who hasn't listed to it yet. Most of the interesting stuff is about 1 hour in up until 1hr 20mins, and then again from the 2hr mark. The whole cast is worth a listen to find out more about Children of Raxxla and so on though.

Here is an image of the map Shabooka shared in the brocast, showing the three 'beacon' areas, overlaid on the galaxy map created by Erimus. It also shows the two nearby permit locked sectors, Dryman and Bovomit. The general theory is an AI misjump to 'Dryman' (when they escaped the bubble over 200 years ago) and then an 'exodus' from Dryman to Bovomit, avoiding the human bubble. It also ties in nicely to what someone said a few pages back in this thread regarding the rally points. Either way, it's great food for thought:

I know it is because I've been fixated on it for a while but ... those points on the galaxy map are lined up almost perfectly like a mirror image of the constellation of Cassiopeia.

Great map!,

I think the terminology is all military based, so to follow on from "en-route rally point", anything military based would have an 'initial rally point' IRP and 'objective rally point' ORP, I think we need to look for clues for both of these.

You might want to touch base with Rizal who is the Canonn FP compiler & does a marvellous job. He has just posted about maybe trying to summarise latest developments fromm all mystery threads there- seems sensible to consider at this point how to minimise the load on the Compiler guys while keeping all pertinent summaries up to date
