An investigation into Frontier's actions on Combat Logging

I'm getting the impression that some people here will make every excuse for FD, so that they can continue to bury their head in the sand.

For the record - I do not like SDC. But I do not like being lied to more. Fair enough if the issue doesn't affect a person or its not a priority. But blind faith...FD must be so happy they have so many zealots!

Just as much as you accuse others of blind faith, you are guilty of blind hate.

Then there is the subsection that say...yeah, it's against the rules, but meh...who cares...and aren't one damned bit fussed about combat logging.

Frontier has to also figure out why people combat log in the first place and make attempts to absolve that issue.

Oh they know - mostly it's the people who are complaining about combat loggers. Though there's also the other group trying to stop those people who also end up complaining about combat loggers.

Really the solution would be better crime and punishment to start with - the PvP community is relatively small already. Once there are more negatives to that sorta play their number will reduce further and there'll be an agreeable steady state for everyone but we're clearly not there yet.

When the game was funded and initially released, it was meant to be Elite... with new tech... Which they achieved perfectly... beyond expectations. Agreed? However, like many things it has evolved... it has developed a following and communities have grown.

Originally, when the telephone was invented, nobody expected cameras to be on phones... do we ban them because they were not originally intended? Phones and cameras were meant to be separate! If I wanted to be insanely tenuous with my links... One could compare it to fundamentalist Christians and views on homosexuality...

Some Elite players are as fundamentalist about PVE vs PVP...

'PVP wasn't intended, its unnatural! The game was meant to be Player vs environment!!! players who fight players are twisted sick individuals who are not normal!!!' That narative should sound disturbingly familiar.

Because something wasn't intended, doesn't mean it shouldn't be supported as equally important.

The second this game launched with multiplayer, and the ability for another commander to damage your ship with their weapons, PVP was supported and intended.

The rules exist. This entire topic is about enforcing rules that exist NOW... not changing anything.

Look, nobody says that FDEV shouldn't adress your problem, nobody thinks they should forget about you. But when someone tells me that PvP is the most important part of the game, and solo and private are killing it I'll point him to the polls that show that only a very small percentage of players are actually interested in PvP and tell them that the game was never designed to revolve around PvP.

Yes it is actually. I often hear it from people trying to be overly hyperbolic while describing some mythical anti-PvP crowd in order to sound sane in comparison.

My point merely was that Elite is not geared towards PvP. That leaves lots of room for it to be in it.

Now when you're done making ludicrous analogies like Fundamental Christian's views on Homosexuality maybe we can have a talk.

edit: Goshdarnit Babel! :D

What utter rot. I don't hate anyone.

Maybe some people want to believe. I get it. You certainly went to great lengths to counter the OP with what seemed to me mostly very weak arguments. A week is long enough for them to reply.

With dramatic reactions, sometimes dramatic examples are needed. Is that your view? no, is it as extreme as some here? yes.

As I said, Multiplayer was added from the start. Thus, PVP was possible. It was geared towards it from day one.

Do you have to play PVP? no. Should you? no.

Honestly, the nasty, vile, secular and cliquish attitudes on these very forums are what drove me to PVP player groups... They are, ironically, the most welcoming, friendly communities for this game. The "PVPers are ****bags" crowd drives people to that gamestyle to find friendlier attitudes.

We both disagree on intentions for day one... but we should both agree that it is a part of the game now, no?

So where do we go from here? No point focusing on the past when the present and future are of far more importance.

You talk about irony, are you aware of the irony that you're painting a whole community as being generalized towards a certain group of players?

Think about that :)

And the most friendly community are the explorers, no question about that.

I am one you see :)

"Watch out, my popcorn consumption comment got me an advisory. For some reason."

Really? That's ridiculous.

*eats pop corn too*

They become less friendly after 24+ hours of geyser-hunting.

I'll give you that, you rock dodgers are a weird but friendly lot.

However, I admit it is a little hypocritical that I am painting an entire community, but these forums do seem to be predominantly filled with hatred for the pvp playstyle, hatred for pvp players, and a general 'pve or ' attitude at times. It feels very lonely if you get bored of wacking robots.

I'm honestly debating sodding off into the black and letting the dust settle.

Maybe hate was the wrong word to use, but OP, and yourself, are getting worked up over a post that was made ALMOST TWO YEARS AGO. Things change.
At the time, they probably did ban players for Combat logging, but this was pre-xbox pre-horizons pre-all-the-other-horrible-exploits.

It's caused by selective observation and we all suffer from it.

I'm honestly debating sodding off into the black and letting the dust settle.
That's a regular day for me.

Shame you turned out to be reasonable. Now I am all dressed up and have no one to mock. But given the nature of this thread, it won't be long :)

This isn't even just about combat logging. There entire culture at Frontier appears to not care about the integrity of the game via exploits of one form or another. All we get are excuses. Its not good enough.

A games company that doesn't tackle cheating or exploiting in its games. This is the first one I've come across and a CEO who has some very odd and sanctimonious views of how people play computer games. Really takes the shine off what could otherwise be a great game.

You better not be saying that this game shouldn't be on Xbox. I'll have you know that the game is fantastic on that platform.
