Just waiting to download and try myself - personally, I'm not overly bothered about physics, if the gameplay is good, then I don't care. ("Gameplay is good" - why am I trying to convince myself? :D)

Hey I am on your side there...rule of cool first if the FM feels better.....I just can´t forget all CIG bragging about realism and physics......

Interesting talks/new infos about future 2.6 FM changes on reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/comments/5e2iql/according_to_twerk17_26_will_no_longer_have/?st=IVS3FNBR&sh=fbedc3cc
from now on Boost button will do whole speeding up to top speed and if you let it go, then you start to slow down....very convenient way to slow down speed in space because space is actually BIG OCEAN if you didn´t know......[wacko]
But hey...who knows maybe "Flying" feels better.....and I bet that CR will explain to us that in the future they invented super ABTS automatic-breaking-thruster-system that calculate perfectly precise G-force and do the breaking automatically soon as pilot stops with acceleration....so everything is just fine......rule of cool + physics.....Yupiiiii!!!!!!!

You obviously dont know anything about Elite Dangerous development.

:D

:D I'm not taking "sides"
Yep, I remember the bragging nonsense about the FM - "Think 3D Asteroids", "It's so good, it's perceived as being bad". And the zero-order gimbal aiming + flight thing with the mouse and all the rubbish defence of that particular mechanic.
I still question the whole gimballed thruster nonsense, which only gimps the options for flight, but in the eyes of some "looks cool" when animated. Lets not forget the "deep" damage model, which you get to "enjoy" for up to 4 seconds because after you can no longer maneuver, you're dead anyway. Oh and fidelity, yep a wonderfull million+ poly ship rendered in a 200x200 pixel area zipping across your monitor - bit of a waste of polygons?

Still, here's to desperatley hoping 2.6 makes improvements - but I'm not holding my breath.

Relatively slow basic flight, and sprinting with afterburner is Wing Commander gameplay. They should have gone with that right away, but instead we had years of "fun" with the pseudo newtonian mess.

lol I don't understand....
They're literally just sitting around doing nothing :D

This game is amazing!

Well... At least it will be great for the roleplaying crowd*

*I mean the type of roleplayers who stand around doing emotes, typing in character dialogue, and generally just use the "game" as a glorified chat channel.

To be fair, at least the guys in video moved around! :D

You can't blame Chris for trying to make big boy flight mechanics.
Good thing he finally went back to how his ships flew in his old games.
Hopefully they're happy with this and stick to it.
5 years of trying to decide how your flight sim will actually fly are enough.

This happens when you are trying to make the game that is good at everything, result looks like will be game is good at nothing...
btw some guy named David nailed it at first time... ;)

May I ask how much you have invested in this . . . game? 'cause it looks more and more like a pipe dream to me. Selling ships for hundreds of bucks, with no real, finished product to show (or even likely to finish within the next two years) -- I don't know, I'm just glad I didn't give them any money.

Once the deliver a finished, working product, that may well change. But not before, and certainly not if they keep selling "ships" for hundreds of bucks (some go for as much as over TWO THOUSAND bucks . . . the price of quite a good gaming computer!). Maybe I'm just too daft to see the benefit, but paying that much money for something I could just as well toil my way towards in the finished game (provided there IS a finished game, of course) is something I'd not do. 'course, I've got a family to feed, I cannot blow one and a half grand on a JPEG. ;)

It would be interesting to know what the consequences are if that entire thing falls flat on its face. My best guess is that the backers would all be shafted. I really hope that doesn't come to pass, but one thing is certain: you guys are in for a long, long wait, and if I was you, I'd stop advertising. The ship prices are very much real money, and some people could get really, really upset.

Thanks for the concerns about my financial efforts towards the game Star Citizen. :)

I'm sitting at ~200€ spent and a small fleet thanks to the rewards from recruiting backers (thanks you know you you are ;) ).
The most I ever spent on video-games combined ever. I'm very frugal about my spendings, for Star Citizen I've backed so much because family! I have a middle starting package and so does the wife and son and some misc merchandising, we will work ourselves up!

Tempted to upgrade the avenger to a Freelancer or a Cutlass Black (loving that rework) so that we can all fit and walk around together on the same ship and share fuel/repair costs.

I need some serious Kool Aid, 'cause this, er, "video" does NOT entice me. It has quite the opposite effect.

Seriously, this is just a collection of snippets taken from other videos, or so it appears to me. Meaningless, and (sorry, strong opinion incoming) the visual equivalent of throwing up after a particularly lively stag party...

In fairness to Orlando he did say having a "BIT" of fun.

A bit of fun amongst a plethora of crashes, slow downs, and other jankiness is to be reasonably expected with SC in its current state. Even I can laugh and have fun with nipple jetting :)

Not sure if you can call it nailed, it's a matter of aquired taste, yes it's a polished and well thought flight model but it's not for everyone!
If it was really fun and engaging Elite Arena would have more players and maybe even reach E-Sports status with prizes, contests etc.

I find it easier to get an Arena match in Star Citizen than in Elite atm.

Good news everyone!

As per the Community Manager's Log we will be getting ATV Frankfurt Studio update tomorrow so expect to see more sweet stuff about planetary tech from the German Wizards!
