So you want to know about the Formidine Rift? (Part 3)

Ah, but as a native Englishman "you’re going to have to plot a way across" *doesn't* mean you then have to fully cross the Rift; it implies you go part way into the Rift along your plotted course, which is then consistent with the rest of her words, and also the rest of the clues; to my mind whatever 'it' is it *has* to be in Eafots

You are right in that there is a lot of leeway for interpretation, but the quote Jaiotu saved me the bother of finding, which you missed out of your collection of quotes, is indeed what I was referring to. And of course, it is my own interpretation that she is saying we need to cross it.

It is paradoxical. She, at once, says you need to cross it to see what she found, and that she never crossed it.

EDIT: actually she does not even say that. She says know one has crossed it and came back. One would assume (but yes, it is my own assumption) she is implying she did. IE "I did impossible thing A. No-one has ever done Impossible thing A (but I just did)"

Remember: That quote saying no one had been to the Rift and returned to tell the tale was AFTER she had her memory edited. At the end of the book, in the epilogue, her younger self says, "Once you reach the rift you’re going to have to plot a way across."

So, yes, she does say that you have to cross the Rift.

Greetings, new to all this - and obviously late to the party. How big is the chance that there IS actually anything now, in game? Dump question, but I am very excited about all this and may as well start my explorer carrier right there and now.

This is 'something' and has been since launch. See page 1 for all details.

That is exactly my point; if she *had* crossed then she would have said "nobody *else* has crossed it and come back", without that qualifier the "nobody has crossed and come back" must include her; ergo she hasn't crossed the Rift but she plotted a way across and while following that plot she found "it" (& I'm inferring that probably means it scared her so much she turned back pronto).

Edit: if you feel you have to cross the Rift & search there then ROC, but I have pointed out several times in this & previous subthreads that the English grammar of her message is consistent with the mystery lying within, not beyond, the Rift.

Exactly, this.

Thanks for the hint I take a look. In short, there already "was something" right from the start?

Yep, read Elite Reclamation by Drew Wagar, read the clues on the first pages of this & previous subthreads, then go out & enjoy the search. But it's a long way out there so you'll need a ship jump range of at least 30ly to get there quickly. First time I did it in an AspX with 32 ly & it took me around two days travel, second time I'got a level5 FSD upgrade from Felicity & it was much more enjoyable travel.
Edit: Reclamation was one of the original books writtenin conjunction with Frontier, & I'm sure Drew said he'd sat with the developers constructing the Rift at the outset of E: D.

Greetings Jorki Rasalas!

Thank you for your quick answer. I got an ASP already suited for the task, no level 5 mods mind you, but not the book. I am doing my homework right now, catching up. Currently I am at the "prism culture" ruin site, all in awe!
After checking SOL for anything, well "unusual", I might start my first ever serious trip into the black. The Rift, comes across like a good start.

How likely is it to come across signal sources right at the top of the galaxy in EAFOTS? I came across one when while I was looking at the galaxy map and by the time I got out the signal source had gone. I only knew about it because I noticed the message disappearing in my info panel on the top right hand side of the screen.

Those signals sources can be found from quite far away from bubble. Within 10,000 LY or something. They contain small or large exploration survey data canisters. Illegal salvage that you can sell, large ones are even profitable.

I am searching through EAFOTS sector at the moment.
Some minutes ago it is the second time I heard this strange sound right after entering a system. This time I had some recording software ready.

I jumped into the system with thrust set to zero. Music was muted. Immediately I noticed a strange sound right in front of me. But there was nothing to see.
I started the recording and waited a little bit. Then I checked my left panel and made two turns with my head (EDTracker). As you can hear, the sound was in front of me. After that I tried a 'honk'. After that you can hear some sorting of shutting down sound.

Strange... What is this?

No problem"
The book is a good read but not essential as the relevant clues (the Old Lady's words) are contained on the FP of this/preceeding subthread.
Don't forget to scan the stars & use an ADS to scan the systems- on a long trip like this you'll get a load of scan data towards your explorer rank & if you're lucky you might find an undiscovered system! Don't forget to scan Earthlike & Waterworlds with a DDS, maybe ammonia worlds too. Keep a lookout in the skybox for anything that looks unusual, any Rift systems that aren't in the galmap but in your navpanel (or vice versa), and watch your six!

I wolehartdly agree with Erimus here, and I can add much more meat on the Barbecue:

The Hint in Drew Lecture is exactly this, a map: it is confirming the Rift location to all of us.

Take a look again:

ROC does not mean Right On Commander, it means Children Of Raxxla, and it is referring to the Tourist Beacon to hint the location even more.

So we have:
The RIFT and the CORE are TOP/BOTTOM, linked by RIEDQUAT and REORTE (the R/R line), that means you go from the CORE to the RIFT, outward;
then there is the COR beacon first, before the RIFT.

It's a map, and it is exactly as Erimus has showed us.

Or somewhere between the core and the rift, there is something for us CMDRs to find and it's something we haven't found yet.
Isn't the conflux between the core and the rift?

I'd recommend scanning high metal content planets too, if you're after Exploration rank. Look for the terraformable zone around the star - distance varies with star type, but you can figure out the Goldilocks zones pretty quickly. A terrafirmable HMC is worth more than a non-TF water world and there are a LOT more of them.

I'm not entirely convinced. My feeling about the whole of the video is that it was a summary of events so far acting as a lead-in (Premonition) for things to come.
When viewed that way, the glyphs are merely a reminder of Drew's previous hints including ROT-13, and Right-On-Commander.

Not convinced that there is any more to it than that and we're over-analyzing due to lack of progress elsewhere.
It's pretty useless as a map.

You're probably right. When we were solving Drew's ROT13 riddle we all expected some huge revelation, but it was really just a puzzle and nothing more.

BTW if there are any SciFi fans here, I just jumped into SIFI AV-P E5-0!

Mmm, thanks, I didn't know that! :)
