An investigation into Frontier's actions on Combat Logging

No, i was very clear in my statement, i said the goal was to bring attention to the flaws in how they enforce their policies and how they take actions against cheaters (combat loggers), no where does it says our goal was to disrupt game services such as the customer support ticket system. Those two comments are two different context. I simply said this could : result in an increase in tickets or combat loggers, i am simply making an observation, i could be very wrong. For all we know, this could be very well be the other way around, they will do nothing and simply turn a blind eye on the problem. At this point, i have zero faith in their abilities to do anything in regards to combat loggers.

I'm really just here for the party to be honest.

Too late. You said that you planned for Support to be overloaded. I asked if your original intention was to disrupt Frontier's ability to provide support to their customers. You said yes.

Thanks Sunny.

People think this stuff comes easy and we're just winging it, but it takes dedication and effort.

I have no idea what pearl clutching is though and a little scared to google it.

Probably a good idea. Never trust the words of a PvPer. They're casual psychopaths, donchaknow.

Hey guys, you've probably seen but I did post a reply on Reddit.

Here's the details.

===

"Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

First of all, I would like to take a moment to assure you that combat logging is against the rules and it’s something that we actively review and action on a regular basis. We have internal processes which we follow to ensure that the reviews are dealt with in a fair and thorough way. We use a number of data points and telemetry to help guide our decision and every report is treated on a case by case basis. There are a number of factors included in that process but we don’t share details of how we action rule breakers as this would give people an advantage in circumventing those checks, should someone be inclined to do so.

However, after looking into the reports that you’ve highlighted here and taking a moment to review them in more detail I can confirm that on this occasion we didn’t follow the processes that we set out and subsequently these reports were not actioned. While we don’t tend to talk about individual reports (even ones like this) we feel that it’s important to give you an open, honest and transparent answer to your post. I must stress that this is absolutely not typical of our standard review and reporting process and this mistake was completely unintentional.

I would like to apologise for the error and thank you for bringing it to our attention. By doing so you’ve helped us to review and make improvements to our existing process which lets us deliver the best possible support for our community.

I also want to add though that reports are still very important to us. We have hundreds of thousands of Commanders playing and while cheating and rule breaking is very small within the Elite Dangerous community it is still something that we do review and take very seriously. Please do continue to submit reports of rule breaking with as much detail as possible and we will endeavour to review these and take action where needed. "

Sorry, but I need more concrete actions taken to revive the faith lost through this investigation, not PR statements.

I know you mean well Zac, and you want this game to succeed and care about the community at large, but what will fix this mess is more than just PR statements, as harsh as it sounds.

A nice start would be some attention to crime and punishment in game so you could get back to pirating. I miss the pirates.

I mean getting on for 50% of people think there should be no punishment for combat logging, why is that?

That is the one thing I'm taking away from this 'discussion', and it befuddles me why that's the case.

I have a theory.

I wonder what proportion of players of this game wish that ship destruction did not cause any rebuy cost, nor loss of cargo, nor loss of Powerplay merits, nor loss of exploration data, nor ... well ... any loss of the player's time at all ... ?

Might it also be approaching 50% ........................................ ?

Yeah gotta say I got pirated once, on a recent CG, dude was in a Cutter.

I stopped gave him a bunch of cargo, then I got him to try his 4 missile pylons vs my 4 point defense, wanted to know if they were effective, they weren't. (very) :(

Was a fun interaction, though I did feel a bit sorry for the dude, like it really didn't seem worth his while. I left thinking really he's probably wanting people to run so he can go for the kill.

So there's another factor right there, how completely financially unrewarding true piracy is.

That's not a theory.

Doubt it.

you're conflating punishment with consequence.

Not sure if I am missing your point, but the beta servers are lots of fun, nobody gives a monkey's about dying. (well mostly)

I don't know, is a complex topic I think, and maybe not the place. I saw someone suggest no insurance cost if you're killed by a player, seems a bit silly yet....

Then you've got those like me that think it should be 100% and you basically fly your pod back to a station and replace the ship entirely.. like in any other game. ;)

Nicely put, probably the same with "how many people would like a command console that can give you whatever you want in the game."

Strangely enough punishment is a form of consequence...

Categorical mistake much, good sir?

Consequence free gaming is fine. But wasn't E:D intended to be a simulator/arcade hybrid? Sims without consequences sound pretty dull.

Think of an "I win" button and how many people want one, if you are having trouble.
