So you want to know about the Formidine Rift? (Part 3)

woodhouse: "conflux between the core and the rift" - this is interesting! Now I see it. I am looking to galaxy map and when I do line from Sagittarius A* to beacons in EAFOTS it looks PRU AESCS is in the line. Coincidence? I don't think so.

Just a thought on the old lady crossing the rift or not. She says "No one has gone past it and lived to tell the tale" with her memory erased she really can't tell the tale, so anyone that has gone past it either died or had their memory erased.

I'm guessing a number of us have discovered what's out there — FDev is utilizing subliminal hypnosis techniques in the witch space animations to help explorers forget what they found out there. Remember, never stare forward at witch space. Instead, watch your six. Commander.

must include her.

I think we will have to agree to disagree. There is no reason whatsoever that it must include her. It would be perfectly reasonable for her to say (paraphrased) "Know one has crossed the rift and returned (historically)" and having achieved that feat herself.

It would be like George Mallory having got to the summit of Everest and survived to tell the tail, and in that telling saying "No-one has every climbed Everest (historically)... but I did!" It's a way of increasing the drama and magnitude of their achievements. "Know one (past tense) has ever done this (thing I did)"

I think whether she did or didn't cross the Rift is kinda irrelevant until we figure out what we're looking for.

I feel like this needs to be pointed out again just for the sake of keeping people from getting to fixed on finding some specific thing. Drew himself over and over again has say that its not a single poi or even something in a single system. He likened the rift mystery to a tapestry. In that there are many things weaving together to make a single picture. He also made a refence to viewing it from behind, in that if you look at a tapestry from the back its image doesn't make sense. So perhaps this was a deliberate statement to say we as players need to change or perspective on it so we can begin viewing it from the front and seeing the whole picture. Im not necessiceraly sure in what way we should go about it but I definitely think there is too much emphasis on finding a specific thing that jumps out and says "Hey look at me Im the rift mystery!" Perhaps the mystery isn't even completely tangible but instead is a collection of lits of different oddities here and there that can only be explained when you look at them all together. Thats just my own thought process, take it with a grain of salt I've not even been able to get out to the rift yet because i just became aware of it all and Im also in the process of moving. Just, this has been what I've gotten from reading what i can find and looking at the things that Drew has said.

Agreed. The near side / far side / middle argument has done the rounds a good few times before. I guess as long as people are doing all areas there will be more chance of a discovery (not that I am there, I just passed Eta Carinae). So in that way is it good that we have different interpretations.

I'm very much with this comment, whatever it is, isn't something we can find easily, I have a feeling that in a certain location beyond the rift, we're going to see something form from all the elements around us. The mystery itself may be part of something bigger. So do keep an eye on your six.

I'm currently sat at the Psoiden Wall, plotting a way across.

Eta Carinae star, or the nebula?
I took a run out to the east rim before 2.2 dropped (because there's always bugs) and passed through both on my way out.
Currently about 9kLY south of you, heading north towards Statue of Liberty. Trying to time my arrival home to catch the CG and make the Feds happy :)

The community always has a herd focus to focus on one thing, it doesnt do distributed gaming and searching very well, possibly as it takes away the multiplayer element of wings. But in this mystery around the top bottom and edges of the box need to be checked as well

I went out via SoL and Eta Carinae and onto the Eta Carina Nebula, working my way through all the Black Holes and Neutron Stars in three Star Sausages (clusters). I had then planned to move Coreward to Hawkins Gap, however I am away all this weekend and part of next week so have decided to make my way back now (via a slightly more rimward route).

Also I encourage you to sell to CoR. The Feds are defo the bad guys here. (Not the I despise the 'Make space great again' Feds one bit. Not at all. No Siree).

Well initially, I'm going to deliver exploration data to the Feds ;)

Hmmm. Yes, they have a history of sharing intel on mysteries they want buried with everyo... oh wait.

The Federal pillock who is running their venture insulted all explorers. Frankly they are the sorts that would probably make leaving the bubble a crime if they could. Don't be a twonk. Don't support the Feds, Sirius Corp or Core Dynamics. They will thank you and shoot you in the back of the skull as soon as you turn round, to keep 'their' new data safe.

Well I've now descended back to the first beacon in EAFOTS. I've plotted a line from the bubble through the Heart & Soul nebulae and outwards towards the other arm. I seen some people have been here before but a few things strike me.

A few things strike me. It's definitely worth of a rift. You are aware of the galaxy there in front of you. It's like the approach to Beagle's point in that regard. And if you carry on with this line, it's actually the direct route from the bubble to the tip of the other arm.

Why Reorte and Riedquat? There are going to many, many different pairs of systems pointing in the same direction and you certainly can't tell which part of the bubble you are looking at all the way from EAFOTS. Both Reorte and Riedquat are 48 ly above the galactic plane though.

Which makes sense. If you are going to try plotting a route across a large gap between two arms, you go down to the galactic plane where it will be easier to cross.

I don't buy the idea that the rift is within an arm. It doesn't make sense to refer to a rift that you can easily go around. It would be like calling something the puddle of fear. It's a rift precisely because it's not easy to go around, which means it must be the gap between two arms. And it is a long way from the edge of the inner arm to the tip of the outer arm. I certainly wouldn't like to attempt it in a 30 ly Asp.

I'm going to see how far I can get and then return the same way but this time making sure to stay about 48 ly above the galactic plane.

I must have missed the part where Kahina and the Children of Raxxla shared any information regarding the Rift.
I've seen them repeatedly ask explorers to do all the legwork, but nothing about what they've discovered.
You'd rather give the data to a secretive personality cult that uses violence and intimidation to support their leader?

If I could be 'motivated' I'd dig out a good number of examples of Loren doing just that... but I can't be 'motivated'.

It seems referring to bottoms is not allowed.

EDIT: is this a good time to shout "think about the Children!"

Unless the CG doubles at each tier, I don't think I will head back soon, I dumped my data on the first day of the CG and headed back out, I think I will try and head further out as far as I can.
I crossed the rift last time out and you do start to hear similar sounds every so often to the barnacles when on planet's.

As an aside can anyone advise how the Fed CG is getting on? The CoR one is a whisker under Tier 3 at this time.

I know the majority of the data will probably hit both CG's next week, but I am just curious.
